EMV321J - Sunbeam Stiletto My First Car
Whilst its not technically the first Imp I ever owned (that was UMP282F), this car was the first one I properly drove - and I passed my test in it.
Originally bought in South London via an advert in Loot for £150, EMV321J was a little 'tired' when I first bought her. The Tangerine Metallic paint was very flat and there was a homemade alloy 'splitter' on the front - that soon went in the bin. My ex-wife decided one day that the car needed a facelift and I came home from work to find the car half painted in Ford Purple Velvet Metallic with rattle cans... along with a half the car park and even the cat had overspray on her.
I didn't like the purple but had to make the best of a bad job so tidied what was there up and continued to run the car everyday with various ridiculous 998cc engines, ill suited to stop start traffic in North London in the early 90s. I think the final straw was when the gearbox broke in traffic and the car was pushed initially into a flower bed, then dumped in my mum's garage in Sidcup.
I half-heartedly started trying to get it back on the road but picked up an Imp Californian instead and so sold it as a rolling shell (but otherwise complete) in about 1992/3. I regretted it instantly and I've been trying to buy it back ever since... this year, it finally returned home after most of this time in someone's back garden...
This is what the car looked like when last on the road:
Sadly... the years have not been kind to her. If this was any other Stiletto, I'd probably say its too far gone... but I've got a heart the size of a football when it comes to this thing. Brace yourselves...
Its not pretty...
I'll do a picture dump in a moment to show the true extent of the metal moth infestation...

Re: EMV321J - Sunbeam Stiletto My First Car
So... the sensible money is to sweep it into the bin and forget all about it. But I've never been sensible - and a hobby shouldn't make any sense to anyone not intimately connected to that hobby.
This is never going to be a show winner - I don't want it to be, as I have no interest in all that. But I do want to have some more adventures in this car. It still exists... just - and it is just about repairable without the need for a new shell. I shall be placing orders shortly for some panels and there is a plan in place for its resurrection. Once there is movement and some improvement, I'll update the thread... it may be a while.

Didn't think it was too bad looking through the photos - all repairable until I got to the roof, pity it isn't a saloon as have a spare roof for one.
Good luck, think you might need some.

Best o luck Tim - you're either a brave, brave man or you've finally lost the plot completely
Looking forward to news on this as it breaks, or maybe "brakes" ?
Live long and prosper might be relevant at this point
Cheers, Andy G

Yes - best of luck Tim. That looks like an awful lot of work but I can understand how you feel - I would do the same if it was Suzy..
