Project Crusty Husky
Decided to add inertia seat belts while doing some work on the rusty roof gutters, since the B pillar was open added some strengthening plates and nut.

Living up to its name, work begins on the tailgate. Lots to do and the pics don't show how bad but I like a challenge.

It does look a bit rusty or crusty there too

Re: Project Crusty Husky
Long 3 days of fabricating and welding the tailgate and still much left to do but its come a long way from the floppy rust riddled mess of metal, just glad I'm not paying for it to be done
It's now structurally sound and rust free but still have the outer skins to sort, trial fit shows I need to shorten it further which will mean custom glass but not the end of the world.

Doesn't look too bad but from what you said I guess looks are deceiving.
My Husky is too bad to repair and will require another shell to restore it, at the moment just playing around with the structural modifications.
All the clues are in the photos.

Re: Project Crusty Husky
Thats fantastic to see it has survived. Its probably in better condition now than most project Huskies that come up for sale if its been under cover all this time.
Good luck with it!!

Re: Project Crusty Husky
Finger tips were getting a little tender rubbing down another Imp project so decided to do some work on the Husky as I was making good progress I did a few extra day on it. Pleased with the way it's coming out but still lots to do.

Looking very neat and tidy Scott.
Good idea keeping the original corners as those would be difficult to replicate from scratch.

Re: Project Crusty Husky
Yes Col, no way am I capable of replicating the corners or certain bit of the tailgate, thankfully they were salvagable with a little bit of repair.
New guillotine and folder make it much easier to make some of the repair sections, although most of them have been done 3 times now, when you alter one item it often impacts on the next- as you know Dominoes It all looked so simple when I started but there are so many different angles in play that relocating them has require much custom work. Recon there is still a fortnights metal work in the roof and tailgate then look at what to do with the rest of it but that's all fairly normal Imp restoration stuff

Re: Project Crusty Husky
Thanks Malcolm, be a shame to cut up a good rear door for the Husky project and Gordon's already been repaired.

Re: Project Crusty Husky
Roof's new sections have been attached to the roof skin, spot welded to avoid any chance of distortion. Making the drainage gutter at the upper corners pretty time consuming but happy with them now.

Re: Project Crusty Husky
Tried out my new mobile lift, seems like an excellent investment.
However, think maybe I should have done a bit more work on strengthening the Husky first.
