Under all the dust it does look to be fairly solid, waiting for the right one seems worthwhile.

Keep us posted.

Looks so hot and sunny. Lovely! Will it be a full resto and new paint or simply back on the road asap, solid and safe, keeping the patina?

Looks pretty sound to me. :)

Will this be a std or modded resto?

Is that the original colour and/or what colour are you thinking about doing it in?

Sadly three cars + looking after dads car is my max limit. One will have to go before I get another.

Talking of three cars.

Nice colour combination, the dark chocolate really suits it with the white. Never seen a Husky this colour, is it Coffee Brown (code 111)?

I googled brown and white Husky:

Dom, are the rear lower wings / arch / lower corners good enough to take a moulding off for making fibreglass lower wings for vans and Huskys? (As their is no swage line rear of the arches like there is on a saloon).

Once all the dust and muck was washed of it looks pretty solid as has already been said. 8)

Will this be getting similar modifications that has been done to your previous cars? Lowered, BMW engine etc?

That comment seems a little unfriendly and unnecessary, Andy, especially bearing in mind there is a post from a committee member just 3 before your comment.

Not unfriendly at all Grahame. Its a fact. I dont wish to get into another spat with you, so I'll say little more. The lack of posts by committee members is as clear as daylight. For whatever reason. I've sent PMs to various in a very FRIENDLY manner, wishing them a happy birthday when its been appropriate. They've not even BEEN READ. Don't go preaching to me about what is and isn't correct.

I come on here every day - don't read every new comment, but I'm still here. I only comment when I have something useful to say. Nothing happening to warrant comment recently to be honest... life in CovidUK is pretty dull.... I could tell everyone that I put Hilda's heat shield back on last week, adjusted the points and found a problem with the coil insulation and had to put the spare on, but that's hardly exciting.

In itself, perhaps not Phil. But at least if you HAD put it on, it would have been one more post and, who knows, may have inspired further debate and comment on other peoples work.

Just saying, mate. If FB is to be the only way, then I'm probably out of here altogether. I'll content myself with the local AC whenever that is permitted in the flesh, or via Zoom as it is now.

Dom

Keep posting details on the Husky build please, keep up the good work young fella :-D you have come a long way from watching you build up the chammy to now.

Andy

Nice one on the LED lamps, I did read it but not really much to add. I am not a fan of them, always found the "driver" (aka control box) to be unreliable, especially if damp gets to them as the inverters seem to always be just done on the cheap, no conformal coating on the board etc. but hope it works out and only time will tell.

Jim fitted them to the front f his Imp with these angel eye sides as well, suits the car very well and thats been since last year, stored outside, all good.

Forum wise

It is intended and designated a member only area from on high and protected with zeal and considered a major member benefit, no public allowed. It will never change and the broken promises of doing so will just chase people away.

So other than the folks that log in no-one will ever know what you post, the reders cars area have even been removed from the news feeds so comments and readers are now exclusively limited to and rely on, people logging in to see anything and thats a very small group.

The people who visit to posts ratio is actually pretty good to be fair.

My own view is well known and as far as I am concerned my view and ethos is very reasonable

If I post details and donate my free time to share what I have got up to and car builds and so on I do it for ANYONE else to read, not just a closed group.

I cannot do that here and my previous lively exchanges ended up with the usual excuses and why do I not step up and do it. So I did.

I still visit Alex thread over at retro-rides, good read, chavisms I can filter out as I read

Facebook

It is no threat Andy, anyone with an interest will trawl both

In fact if FB was engaged properly it would be a benefit but that wont happen as long as the contents here are locked down and kept as hush hush and my grannies secret number

I don't have and never will have a Facebook account for my own reasons which I'm not going to share here. So maybe 1.5%😉

The forum now in my personal opinion is a pale shadow of what it was and I don't log on or post any where as much as I used too.

It seems to me that the forum has been controlled to such an extent that most people seem to have moved to Facebook, which I understand is far less regulated, I am sure there are very good reasons for this but as a non Facebook user it seems to me that the patient is being slowly strangled to avoid any chance of it getting a cold and I find that really disappointing.

Exactly , i used to post so everyone could read it if they so choose , i no longer update either of mine as it seems pointless ,If you want to see what im up to then its on hillmanimp.org or facebook , Its no longer put on here .
IMHO This forum is now over controlled and over strangled.
Its existence seems to be to get the club money and promote the club and not to promote or keep the imp alive as its supposed to .Its doing exactly the opposite from what i can see and pushing people including myself away

My username will turn pink anytime soon -haven't renewed this August just gone. The forum was one of the main attractions way back. Enough said.

Dom. Look, I'm so sorry that your Husky thread has been hijacked. My comment earlier has resulted in me getting another telling off, basically for telling it how it is. So, I'm out of here. I will join the masses and not bother with the Forum again. Shame, as I've enjoyed it in the main, certainly back in the earlier times. I shall keep in touch with my chosen friends. The rest can do one. I did some research yesterday after receiving my admonishment :-

Here we are then : I've used the names as they appear on the Forum listing of Committee Members : Posts since lockdown started on 23rd of March 2020.

NOW tell me I'm wrong and don't have the right to consider that the Committee can't be arsed with the Forum. I'm aware that some want it closed down and have done so for time immemorial. Quite frankly, with the attitude being shown it may as well shut down and save the Club some money. The above is not a good advert for the Committee Members. It doesn't take long to log-in. It takes minutes to look at the NEW POSTS and an additional minute to see if anyone has a day to celebrate. I'm not asking much, but when I do my nemesis see's it as a personal affront, and the administration appear to follow his logic.

I'm now past caring.

Oli, there are folk out there with new old stock van and husky complete wings. However, I dont think here has been enough interest to make fibreglass sections viable as they wod be slow burners in sales and take up lots of room, not to mention the costs to set up the moulds.

However, you can fit saloon or coupe wings as a sectional repair. How do I know? Well my van has a club rear wing fitted on the driver side. The lower corner was made from scratch though I think Radford panels used to make them:

Posting in a seperate post so admin can move to a seperate thread if desired/appropriate.

Andy, you have every right to have an opinion and I respect your view.

The figures are a little misleading though. This just shows how many POSTS people have made. As you rightly say, it doesn't take a minute to log in and check new posts. And with my 21 posts since lockdown, that doesn't take in to account I log in 3 or 4 times a week to look at new posts and see if there is anything worth sharing on our other social media (such as the electric clan thread) which has proven to have had a boost in new members. It doesn't take into account that forum admin who shows as no posts has been logged in and done critical updates to keep the forum up and running. It should also be noted that, as you will be well aware, being a committee member doesn't come with any caveat that you must be an active member of the forum, must go to car shows to promote the Imp or drive your Imp more than any other member. People join the committee for a number of reasons, to give something back, they have a particular skill set or even just because nobody else is stepping up.

The lack of posts is common across many forum based social media. Many of the clubs and groups I belong or belonged to have either very few posts or closed and that is a mix of fully public and locked down. Despite this, the club keeps ours running.

The van was media blasted. The garage that did the bodywork wouldn't touch a dipped shell due to their experience with dipping and not wanting to ruin their reputation.

A minefield right there should i dip or not. The company i used in 2007 for my rally car are based in Preston, when i asked them to Acid dip my car i had my ear chewed by the man who owns the company and is a very clever chemist, he explained the process to me and what they do and the car is still looking good today. http://www.paint-strip.co.uk/

I don't know what is best. I was given 2 conditions by my chosen garage. 1, they wont touch it if it's been dipped. 2, they will blast it entirely to see what's what and only by the media blaster they trust not to damage the shell.

I knew it would be a 1st class job so who was I to argue.

With the chat about wide wings, I cannot help but wonder what a Husky with a roof chop would look like

Husky with wide arches/wings?

I remember a yellow polka dotted husky with grp4 arches at national weekend 1998? Blacked out limo glass as well. I must have a photo of it somewhere, but maybe not as I didn't like the husky or van shape back then! (I remember thinking to myself what an ugly shaped car they were!).

Dom, good luck with the restoration of both the husky and evidently this forum too!

Yours will be looking superb soon no doubt. Can't wait to see your progress and the finished result mate.

I dont know if express panels do forum repair sections.
