 John

Don't know what I'm doing just make it up as I go along.

No Hall sensors just VR and it used a shielded twisted pair wire and ground at the ECU. I did have a issue with the Clan when we came back from Holland when it wouldn't start on the Ferry and although it started once off it lead to a series of issues which ended in the ECU being sent back to Emerald who reconned the issues were cause by interference such as non resistor spark plugs which I was using but had been for a number of years without issue, personally I blame the fact that we were parked beside a huge extraction fan but who knows.

Using Canems on this one so having to learn a new system and ways of working.

Electronics in cars, putting sensitive parts in nasty places, it is the devils work  sed to get enough problems on some encoders and halls on just mounting them next to stepper motors with brakes never mind spark.

And you are being modest 8)

Good luck with the new system

Steel discs for the intank fuel pump arrived and any excuse to avoid doing the bodywork got stuck into turning them into something useful.

Cracking on there pal. "

"Moose

No oil pressure warning light wire ?"

You are right i had to go out and look as i was convinced it is only a three way plug. I was right the starter is on a separate single wire so the three are points, Alt and oil warn.

Need to get back to working and rallying mine forgotten what i did to it

Finally feel I've made some progress, got some epoxy primer on the shell. :D

Get the floor hopefully done tomorrow and then that's it sealed from any moisture wanting to turn it back to rust again.

I concur on the colour so much so that I've been thinking about painting GLS (viewtopic.php?p=150420#p150420) one of the Greys that are popular at the moment but be a while yet.

You could do it in Platinum Silver which some Imps were done in and have maroon leather upholstery 😎

GLS was indeed Silver although looking at the paint it was hard to tell, Chrysler seemed to have had issues with the Metallic paints on the couple of cars I've had. I also have a red leather interior if needed. :D

Very true... I used to have an N-plate Platinum silver Imp Super that had been returned to the dealer under warranty because the lacquer peeled off. They sprayed it grey instead!!

Like the 68 Silver Fox Metallic Cortina 1600E the lacquer peeled off that after a few months, something to do with the top coat not being compatible with the base, thankful today's metallics are quite robust.

Pretty sure the Metallics used were single stage - no laquer but they certainly didn't stick very well to the primer.

Not liking the crank sensor mount so had another go, the problem is all the mounts on the timing cover are at different heights.
In the end I changed one of the studs for a longer one and tapped more of it, fitted a nut and fitted the bracket over it and retained with another nut. On the other end is a simply dog legged step.
IMG-20211030-WA0010.jpeg
Fuel tank also needed redoing, despite trying everything I could to minimise the length of the fuel pump it was just a few mm too long so cut a bigger hole and welding in a deeper sump. Didn't need to be as large as I ended up with but reconned it would help with surge on a near empty tank which Karen always seems to leave her cars when I borrow them :? It's OK I have trial fitted and it clears fine.

Nice work on the injectors, the aim you’ve got there straight at the valves should be great. Where are you taking the vac signal from (assuming you are running sd injection) I’ve used the vac takeoff on my sport manifold as it joins them all and should provide a decent average.

Dave, if you look on at the pic of the manifold and injectors you can see a small nipple to the right of the servo take off - this is the take off point (cunifer pipe with flared end and loctited 648). The servo take off will be used for the air idle contol valve.

The Fuel tank and it's plumbing now done, has been sitting with half a tank of fuel and no leaks so far. :D

With a new map it fired up first time and "idled" , didn't get any further as manifold not sealed properly so drawing air. The outer two mounts, the ones on the long studs were removed to fit the fuel rail which is part of the problem, solution is to fit longer dowels and use them to help locate the inlet manifold (on order). Once that's sorted I can start mapping.

Longer dowels certainly helped in locating the inlet but only partially helped, the other issue and maybe the bigger one was the aftermarket exhaust manifold stopping the inlet seating properly, a bit of filing later and both on.

Fired it up and already idling much better, spent a bit of time balancing the Strombergs in anticipation of starting mapping.

Have done a bit more work on the engine, working on the mapping at idle.

Done some more filler work and reprimed the interior and applied the sound deadening, slow progress but progress never the less.

Col is closest but then he knows which manufacturers colour it is, they don't do 4 wheels but do vehicles with 2 and 3 wheels.

This is the same colour that it was painted when originally restored.

Col - yes it has been clearcoated, cheeky bigger. Yes it will make Imp Ecosse just not this year :( door skins on order from Expressed Steel but due early April but know they are delays with them so no chance it will be finished.

Thanks for the nice comments, it's going back as a daily driver so willing to compromise on the level of finish inside as most of it will never be seen when everything's back in besides got too many other projects to get on with, can't spend forever chasing perfection.

The colour by the way is Piaggio Azzuro Fjord Metallic.

I've decided to put other work aside and concentrate on Karen's car for the month of May, fortunate that I have the flexibility to be able to do that.

Yesterday started on sorting a Sport boot lid using the original slotted area from Karen's Sport and a modified standard lid off some competition car so it already had extra holes for cooling and mounting. Both needed a lot of work but would both have ended in the scrap pile if I hadn't put the work in.
Ran out of Argon yesterday so did some more work on the fuel line plumbing and found I need yet more fittings

After picking up more gas this morning got the boot lid welded up and dropped it into the acid tank to remove the rest of the rust , then started taking the headlight surrounds back to bare metal. Awkward shape so has to be done by hand sanding :(

Started sanding the bonnet, only did half as the vibrations go for my hands. Still in pretty good condition but it has a few dings that I'll pull/knock out this time rather than just filling.

Finished off the fuel lines and then installed the ECU and its wiring only to find the multiplug wouldn't go through the hole in the inner rear wing which meant demounting the wiring. Grabbed a spare loom and tidied it up a bit and took the auxiliary wiring harness that was in it previously and removed the insulating tape as it will have a lot of custom wiring partially because of the engine management but also custom dash (still to decide what to do with it) and other goodies.

Last build it had remote central locking with light on warning, auto courtesy light delay, two speed intermittent wiper etc, this time were going keyless entry and start stop with auto coming home/leaving home lights. Still looking at tunes, last time 6 cd multichanger this time bluetooth to phone, sat nav, android auto with single din pop up screen, if I can find something suitable.

Concentrating on getting the initial run of the wiring in, all very time consuming and then just as I was connecting the Ecu wiring to the front of the car spotted a wire with a bare end flapping about  One of the wire had come out of the multiplug to the ECU without putting any strain on it, can only assume that it wasn't properly crimped. Not a happy bunny. :x

One fine day, Scott, you'll have to share how you did your central locking. I'd love to see it one day. 😊

Andy

Clan has a similar set up but key operated central locking because I hardly ever lock it due to type of usage, it will be at the National. I'll also post up details when reassembling.

I'll post up details as I do it especially for you replicated same system on Clan so you can see it in operation only difference is its key operated as hardly ever locked.
