Winter Project to keep me out of mischief

Post by JackieM »

After 50 years I have took the plunge and bought another Imp, should be a nice project for the winter, going to strip the engene as it has no compression on No1 cylinder, bodywork is ok though the respray is not the best (OK from a distance)

Welcome to the forum.

Looks like a nice honest car. Keep the updates coming.

Made a start this week got the head off ready to clean up and refurbish hopefully it wont need skimming. It has been nearly 50 years since I last worked on an imp engine, funny how it all comes back to you, like riding a bike you never forget how to do it, mind you I had to do it a lot on the ‘63 Imp, it needed a head gasket every second week nearly!! I suppose it didnt help that at 18 I was trying to emulate Stirling Moss should be OK now at 71 I have a flat cap and pipe as accessories

You should still be able to emulate Stirling Moss (although a more "alive" driver might be prudent) at 71. Because, by your age, you ought to have learned how to avoid detection !! I'm 65 and a bit, and have no intention of driving like a bloke with a flat cap. Ooops, sorry, I'll change that  . I have no intention of driving like a bloke who's lost the ability to drive properly, and get from A to B in the shortest time possible 8)

Welcome along. That’s a nice looking Chamois, I hope I give you as much fun and satisfaction as mine give me. The Imp club is pretty good too I think.

Its these sneaky camera vans and average speed ones that catch you out nowadays, luckily up here in the Highlands we have the NC500 to toddle around but its that busy you would be lucky to average 40mph but theres plenty other quiet roads around here so might be able to give it a good run out to check its ‘performance’ 😉
