Colour

Post by olihofmann »

Hello
We are after a original Colour for a Sunbeam imp sport. The car was original gold but is orange and black on the outside at the moment.
We would like to paint it in an original Colour, so if you have got some Pictures of imps in original colours, please post those pics to motivate us for the
rebuild and respray.

Well my 1st car was a '67 E reg Imp Sport in Blue,

Pretty similar to HDE 717E in the Rootes cars list, I always thought that was the best colour of all the Imp's I've owned.

Depends really if the cars a Sunbeam Imp Sport, Mark 2 1966 to 69 or the Mark 3 1970 to 73 or the Sunbeam Sport 1973 until end of production 76, each had their own period colours during those years which if the intention is to go with that is either keep the original colour which will have the code on the chassis plate or pick one from that one period colour chart. Or if it doesn't matter and any appropriate colour will do, although a lot modern colour shades don't really suit the car in my opinion, look a little false somehow when compared to the original bright colours which were more pastel in flavour.

Thanks for all that info! The Chassis Number starts with B493... so it is a Sunbeam Imp sport after 1969? Colour code is 129 some sort of gold…
I rather like that blue one!

Kingfisher metallic was always a popular colour for Imp Sports, along with Lincoln Green metallic. There were also quite a lot of the later models done in Wardance Red (bright orange) too.

Ideally it would be best to at least use a colour of the same period as suggested above, which means finding out the build date of your car. If you have the engine or chassis number, someone on here will be along to tell you.
