WICKED WELSH WEEKEND 2019 ANNOUNCEMENT

Post by philgsmith » Thu Nov 01, 2018 11:14 am

After the success of this year’s event at Llangorse Lakeside campsite (http://www.llangorselake.co.uk) in the Brecon Beacons we have - perhaps not surprisingly in view of the excellent feedback received concerning the site, café, bar, and the event itself - decided to go back there. Next year’s event will be held from Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd September 2019. We have again reserved the whole of Ernie’s Field (26 camping pitches all with electric hook ups) and the 10 static caravans (4 berth & 6 berth) for our exclusive use. The format of the event will be similar to this year’s but with a few minor tweaks (and, we hope, much better weather!).

Bookings can be made from now – please contact the site directly – details below. We would suggest booking by telephone as, having reserved Ernie’s Field & the static caravans for our exclusive use, the website may say that there is limited availability. There is a deposit of £25 payable upon booking, which is deducted from the total cost of your stay. We understand why the owners do this as they have had clubs attending in the past who have booked a whole field, only to find that just a few people turn up. As they are prepared to book the whole field for us, this is a reasonable request. If you experience any problems with booking please let us know and we will deal with the issues arising.
Bed & breakfast accommodation is available in Llangorse village (within walking distance), with further accommodation in nearby Bwlch and Brecon.

Whichever accommodation option you take PLEASE can you also let us know separately that you are attending (contact Roy Blunt – details below - via the Forum, or by PM, email or text if you prefer not to announce publicly that you will be away from home) as we need to know who & how many plan to attend so we can make arrangements for event packs, meals, space for car parking on runs, etc.

Contact Details:
Llangorse Lakeside Caravan and Camping Park: Telephone – 01874 658226 or email – holidays@llangorselake.co.uk
You MUST mention that you are booking as part of the Imp Club Wicked Welsh Weekend. There are discounted rates for the over 60s so don’t forget to mention it at the time of booking if you fall into this category.

Just crossed paid the toll for the last time!
They made it memorable as took over an hour because rather than do the work over night they started just before the rush hour and shut some of the tolls and switched of the TAG only lanes!

We tried to book a caravan (we did have one shared with others, but they decided not to come along and cancelled it) so if anyone is planning to cancel a caravan or might have space available, we would be interested, before we look into B&B or camping.

Thanks

Just to let everyone know - there is just the one static caravan left unbooked for WWW2019 at Llangorse in September at the moment. Plenty of camping space left.

Wear a bright flourescent pink hat so we know who you are! Or better still, come to the Full English or National (with the hat) then by the WWW we'll know you.

I suppose that's a possibility, but not sure I look that good in pink! The National is a bit too much of a punch from Essex and I have no idea what the Full English is.

Thanks Roy - I know it's a friendly club and I was only joking! I'm looking forward to it and by then, I should have the Imp with a new clutch, brakes, heater hoses and water temperature gauge. I've had classics for many years, and we shall only travel on roads in existence in 1966, so the journey there and back will be a lot of fun!

According to Google maps, Essex to Preston is about 260 miles and Essex to Brecon is about 240 miles, so very little difference!
Full English is w/e of June 22nd in Devon (220 miles from Essex  ). Details should be in Impressions.

We were in town shopping this weekend and popped in to one of the charity shops.

You know you've bought the right prizes for the naffle when the charity shop says "there's no returns on that". Or to put it another way, "we don't want that back again".

Wicked Welsh Weekend 19 - 22 September 2019 - basic info.

Post by RoyBlunt » Fri Sep 06, 2019 9:15 pm

This is the second event at our new location at Lakeside Caravan Park, Llangorse Lake. A detailed route booklet will be available from the organisers when you arrive but below is some advance information on the event which we hope you will find useful.

Llangorse Lake and its surrounding area is a dark sky area, where street lighting is limited. As a result, you may have some great opportunities for star gazing but do bring a good torch or lantern! There is a shop available at reception providing basic food, snacks, drinks, souvenirs and gas. Imp club camping (and the organisers) will be on Ernie's Field where there will be a club gazebo.

The Lakeside Bar on the common will open specially for us on Thursday evening and will serve food until 20:30 - a menu is attached. There are new tenants (Leon & Cath) running the Lakeside Bar this year and they have asked if as many people as possible intending to eat there on Thursday evening could let them know in advance (via roytblunt1z@gmail.com) what they are likely to choose from the menu so they can do their best not to run out of anything! The bar will also be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as normal. The WWW Quiz and Naffle will take place in the bar from 20:30hrs on Saturday. Prizes for the Naffle gratefully accepted.

The Lake Café will be staying open until 20:00 (last orders 19:30 please) to provide hot food on Friday and Saturday evenings. Breakfasts will also be available every morning from 09:00 (08:30 on Saturday). Please note that the Café is cash only.

We have arranged 3 scenic runs into Mid Wales and around the Brecon Beacons. Please note that the nearest petrol station is 6 miles away in Brecon, so fill up in advance for the runs or be prepared to divert off the route. All scenic runs will pass near to petrol stations.

Friday's run will leave at 13:00 - stopping at Dan Yr Ogof National Show Caves of Wales (http://showcaves.co.uk/caves_dan_yr_ogof.html). There is a large coffee shop in the grounds and car parking is free. Total mileage is 64 miles and the driving time is about 2 hours.

Saturday's run will leave at 10:00 - heading towards Llandrindod where lunch can be had in the Lakeside Café which has views out over a lake that even has its own dragons! Total mileage is 115 miles but short cuts (detailed in the route booklet) can reduce this if taken.

Sunday will see the Show & Shine at 10:00 - 11:00 in the morning (hopefully on the common - weather permitting!) with the awards ceremony at the main gazebo on Ernie's Field at 12:00. There will be a short afternoon scenic run (30 miles) leaving at 13:30 with a refreshment stop at a garden centre. For those remaining in the evening we have arranged a meal at 19:30 at the Red Lion in Llangorse village (walkable in 15mins – 0.6 miles) – take your torches.

We look forward to welcoming you and hope that you all enjoy your weekend in Wales.

WICKED WELSH WEEKEND 2019_Camping update

Post by RoyBlunt » Tue Sep 17, 2019 7:32 pm

HI All,
Just to say that, because we haven't had sufficient advance pitch bookings to nearly fill Ernie's Field this year, the campsite has now opened up bookings to the general public.
If you intend to camp at WWW and have not booked already I would very much recommend that you do so as soon as possible. There will be plenty of space on the adjacent field but that doesn't have electric hook ups.
