If I can't get The Pest finished for next year this National is a bit closer with it only being 3 hours 28 minutes away and only 208.5 miles so not so far to go.. Bonus and gives me an extra year for the rebuild making it a ten year anniversary of ownership.

Cheers

The venue is pretty much smack in the middle of the UK and just off Junction 1 of the M55, itself just off the M6.
Easy motorway access from Hull, Holyhead, Liverpool, Cairnryan and Haysham for those coming from abroad too, Probably the easist National weekend to get to ever! So no excuses people. :D

Good meeting today plan made for me to organise a scenic tour taking in some of the best road rally lanes in our area, with lots of good view points and excellent countryside, plan to take in coffee stops and lunch all based on a simple tulip style road book to guide everyone round with the emphasis on everyone making it round at their own pace and seeing what a beautiful place we live in up here.

I have also got permission off Blackpool council that we can park by the comedy carpet next to the tower and show the cars and grab fish and chips after the sat run

Something to discuss for 2019 media coverage! i have a friend who can supply a service of live feeds on FaceBook, pictures and videos to forum and FB, drone footage, live interviews etc if anyone can think of what they want to appear on the forum during a national post here and i will see if he can make everyone happy, if the cost of his service seems worthwhile we can get a proper price of him for his professional services he has a standard day rate but depending on what you want and in how many different formats etc the costs will vary. He is a good friend so we will get a favourable price and he has already given up his time to assist with the road run at no cost.

This is what many want to see -and it's an opportunity to move forward so I hope it gets support from those that call the shots.

Also this National will come at a time of change for me (early retirement) so it's more likely I'll be there in the Clan. Be good to put faces to a few more forum characters too - including you moose! Clan004

Would be good to meet many people. If people put the ideas forward of what they want, the team will check viability and cost and if it can be done it will be done. Trying to fine tune and over plan things can lead to stressful situations and mistakes being made so at some point if something looks too much like hard work for not alot of gain then just don't bother (like having more than one toilet on site at imp19, there is one in the club house, job sorted)

From the little involvement i have had so far

catering, bar and beer fest, the venues club is capable of sorting it for the amount of people expected.
info from previous nationals gives you amount of showers and toilets required on site. Just need to use a good company and pay for a quality service.
basic designed layout of the site, camping over there, camping with elec over there, traders there, area marked out for parking the cars for show/shine, judging etc.
open bar and feed a feild full of people
Field full of drunk peole talking about imps and possibly fixing some
Next day go for a drive through some cracking roads
Return to field and repeat above.

Hi Gill it all depends on what people want to see, he has a basic day rate and if all we ask for is one day to film say the awards presentation and stream it live on FB it will be X price, if we want him wandering around the field all day interviewing and then spending all night editing footage, posting pictures on forum, website, FB etc then the cost will rise so we really only want to pay for what we want to see so it is over to the club members who are going to attend and those that want to keep up with the weekend remotely.

Here are some thoughts from bazzah in another thread:
Here are some bullet point ideas:

Every car photographed that wants to be part of the Online Award. One photo, same angle, same location. This award is only available to the votes of online viewers.
Interviews, videos, photos updated as they are able.
"Meet the vendors" interviews, see the people you are buying off, but never meet.
Hidden PROMO codes in some of the videos. You can get a discount on a club item.
Encourage vendors to give online offers. If an order is placed by midnight Sunday, then you get a 20% discount of a service kit or something.
Have a quiz also open to online people.
Caption competitions.
Live steam some things.
Actively promote the event in areas you haven't thought about.

And I am sure there are more.

and another post:

Maybe next time ask for a Media "Officer" for the weekend. Their only job is walk around, take photos, interview people. Show interesting cars. Upload. Live stream (or close to it). If you have two people, a modern SLR with a proper mic, held by a "cameraman". It is actually fun for some people with the right frame of mind.

the forum will be excluded entirely from what is going on, if you cant be bothered to join faceache or turn up that is your loss, any members not attending will be charged double when they re-join the club so that we can all have a free bar and subsidise malcolms stall so any tuning parts will be 50% off.

I’m just glad that we are lucky enough to be in a position where club members put themselves forward to organise national weekends. Yes we should always be looking into what improvements can be made of course. I’m currently working on getting a team for 2020 so we can be in a position where we have the next two nationals being organised.

All comments, suggestions will be read out and discussed at AGM. It would be great to see some of you their if possible.

For me if one person takes the overview and there are enough people who have 1 or possibly 2 tasks to do and they carry out those tasks in time then there should be little stress on anyone, so the more that pitch in the easier it is. When Rob asked me to help i said i would do a tour for one day and produce the road book, so that is what i will do. To keep it simple you need a team with clear tasks, for example

venue inc alchohol and catering =Rob
tour saturday= mike
stakes and rope to de-marcate field = Dave + 5 assistants
Book a band = Phil
produce quiz = John
Tour Sunday = Gary

All hypothetical names but if you work down a list of tasks and have enough people and each person commits and completes their task the event will happen, all you need to then deal with is unexpected problems all of which are out of your control. Also to have the attitude you cannot please eveyone 100% of the time so i am sure there will be things like people having a pop at something the team will have missed but hey ho my attitude to people like that is if you have seen the problem fix it or come to the team with the soloution so we can sort it, 9 times out of 10 if the effort to complain was put into fixing an issue then there wouldn't be a problem.

Moose,back to the upload idea.

From elsewhere:
you can post news to twitter regularly and have it auto replicate to Facebook, you can have the faebook stream automatically display on the website (wordpress plugin). So you do the job once, it hits 3 targets.

Someone at home with a little bit of time could take any of those feeds and replicate it in the forum as well.

Target market though, more attendees and more members, the event coverage in current year + interest for following year to build on

Mike (I'm guessing?) - you may not be aware but Rob has taken a step back now, and although happy to help, isn't actively involved in the organisation of Imp 19, as he has too much else on. I've had my arm twisted to do it so am heading up the organisation.......we haven't a formal organisation team yet (tho a list of people offering to help) so can I ask you to contact me directly to ensure we are on the same page and know who's doing what? I'm not turning down any offers of help - just dont want us duplicating effort :) I'll be emailing out to all local members in the next day or two regarding this ;)

Not a problem Richard i await your first meeting to gather it all together i am well on with the tour and have the media contact to allow us to potentially improve coverage of the event. So hopefully that is two things off your list that you will need to organise the rest are just ideas to get a feel for what people want as soon as the planning meetings start we will have a good selection of ideas and plans that just need sorting into an order and a name to the tasks.

If it was me...

I would purchase the domain: impnational.co.uk (not taken and cheap)

Setup a wordpress site asap. Loads of plugins to link to social media.

Post updates from now. You can use it host info, booking etc. All leading up the event. Post anything to the site and those updates can be pushed to social media.

It is the centre of live updates over the weekend.

You do not have just ONE person doing updates. Contributors can be a roughly coordinated group of people. Once you have a framework, it isn't difficult.

it then becomes the record of the event. The 2019 entries can then be moved on the site to "Past nationals" and 2020 takes over.

As to buying services. Not so sure about that. It really depends on the cost. I know people might be intimidated, but much of it isn't rocket science. Whilst I am sure the results will be more professional in some ways, are we looking for that level? For the first year? Enthusiastic participants can often create more fun content (though less polished) than someone without a "stake" in the weekend. Anyway get the costs. Examples of their work, examples of how they interact with people who are in front of cameras.

If you're not already aware the caterers from this year were saying they'd love to do next year as well.

My mate who has offered to help with the media used to work for HERO as their media co-ordinator ensuring blue passion photography and the other video crews, he also collated the results and on event almost live write ups, if you look back from 2017 on you tube HERO facebook page you will see his live interviews and updates plus all the articles he has written whilst on event no easy task chasing a rally around the country, constantly on the move with an ever evolving event, looking for wifi to get the info onto the various platforms. So a static event in a field would pose no problems to him, as soon as we have a clear steer on what people want to see he will give us a price for providing that service if the club and organising team think it is not worth spending the money then it won't happen, the offer is there to explore.

Sounds good Moose. The club seems so out of touch with technology, I just would worry about them thinking "experts" can solve their challenges, without taking ownership themselves. And by ownership I don't mean anything to be frightened of.

Maybe the first one could be with assistance, and set up a template for following ones. Leverage the investment. Would your mate take under his wing some "onsite" reporters? Could make it more for fun for him and everyone.

Setting up a website is anyway independent of all that. It just provides the framework and glue for everything. It just needs a simple hosting package from one of the standard providers, Bluehost, godaddy. Paid monthly, not much money for a standard WP setup.

Setup a wordpress site asap. Loads of plugins to link to social media.

Is it still possible to link to a FB group from WP? I thought this had been outlawed by FB and WP apps were now restricted to linking just to FB pages.

Hazzah it really does depend on what the club wants, he will help out in any way (as soon as i am told by everyones ideas on here and what the club and organising team want i will get a price) Whether it consists of him talking to people on camera, uploading to all the platrforms, editing footage or just sending it out live, filming someone from the club talking to people on camera, showing someone onsite on the Sat morning how to live feed onto FB, the website and link it to the forum and then leaving them to it will abviously alter the price, simples 4 hours of his time Sat morning £ cheap. Setting up a website, making FB page, Photo and video gallery on youtube with links on forum, write ups of the whole weekend, two days on site, photo's, in car on the runs, interviews etc etc will cost £ more. What we have is a fantastic opportunity for a professional to assist us who is willing to put in from 2 hrs to an entire weekend, i am sure if you approached any other professional and asked them to let us steal all their ideas of how they usually make a living you would be told "i cover the whole weekend and this is what you get for £X or i don't bother" I hope the club takes advantage this opportunity if they think the price is right and then as you say the club has people who could do all the tech stuff in the future.

The club FB presence is a page as opposed to a group I think Lynda?
Presumably anyone using FB would be able to view the page and the updates?
If I told you I was a pathological liar, would you believe me?

Yes - website already links to club’s FB page - I was querying about linking to Hillman Imp group etc. I don’t think that’s possible, and that’s where a lot of Imp stuff is posted.

It's an old subject, but I raise it again.

Reading the post about the National 2019 I would like to know who the lead organiser is, but I cannot find a clue who 'Impman1965' is.
I've been to all Nationals since 1995 and I probably know you.

Please please sign off with your name, it makes it a bit more personal!
