1 Stiletto, 4 Imps, a 106, a 924 and a Clan

Post by rallyimp »

As a long-standing Imp owner I’d always fancied a Clan, as a lightweight rust proof version of the Imp. Just before Christmas last year (2009) I had the opportunity to buy a Black one from Tim Morgan, it came as a slightly rough rolling shell in need of a little work.

A little introduction to me, I learned to drive in my dads Sunbeam Stiletto before buying my first Imp, a black one which was made into one of the Vanguards models so some of you might remember it, although I think the models are currently selling for more than the car did.

A Green Imp Rallye followed this which got me into Road Rallying and then Endurance Rallies, competiting in the first Lombard Revival Rally
Although this soon proved to be a bit much for what was a fairly STD 32 year old car and it soon started to look like it needed a re-shell

This lead to the purchase of a new shell to build up as a much more solid and re-enforced Rallye, However at about the same time I was offered a Peugeot 106 Rallye, which I then competed in the Endurance Rally Championship winning my class in 2010. Having just moved house and with the 106 now up for sale I’m getting back into rear wheel drive and the Clan.

So far I have found an 875cc sport spec engine to put in the Clan and got this running on basic Imp ancillaries which had been stripped from the old Rallye Imp and over the Christmas holidays I managed to get it running and MoT’ed.
I’ve still got some work to do to get it reliable and fully functioning, as one of the front brakes seized on, returning from the MoT and I had advisories on the wheel bearings. The Clan also needs a good clean and polish and probably a bit of work on the body to make it look smart in time for the forthcoming season.

I should be out and about this year so hopefully we will meet some of you at Washington 40 and the Imp National Weekend I might also be tempted to join Dave, Joan, John Slater and Co on some historic events during 2011.

Hi Chris

Nice to see you back on Imp scene > seems long time since we did all those Yorkshire shows. Stiletto pic reminds me of time we all helped you fit Rally seats at Lotherton Hall.
Have my own Stiletto these days as well as Caledonian

Hope to cross paths with you soon

Hi Paul

They can be a funny lot to get in with, but the events are great

If you still fancy doing something drop me a PM with your contacts and I'll sort you out

there should be 2-5 of these new events next year the Loughborough one & I'm planning to run one round coventry/rugby area

I should know more after I've spoken to a few people at Autosport show in Jan

Hello Chris,

Thank you for your post and your offer. :) Once my car is back in action, I shall quite likely look to do one or more of these events, I think. I am going to try to keep the car as eligable for stuff as I possibly can, including road rallies, if possible. Imp006 The regulations for the different types of motor sport baffle me, though, to be honest! :? :?

I shall look you up when the time comes. :) :)

And Now I'm finally getting back on with the Rally car

Guess I better try and update the title as well to add the extra Imp & Porsche

Rally car (the Imp) appears to have a wide front track. Viva disc brakes? Camera angle?
Nice looking car. The blue looks pretty much like the Chrysler pentastar colour.

Well its taken 2 years since the Imp was at the NEC, but I've finally connected the battery and cranked it over
A spark was a bit optimistic for the first attempt
