21-26 of September noted. WTG now moves under its' own steam so there is a chance we'll turn up.
The three majors - Going Dutch, National and WWW - seems realistic now. At last. :D

While out yesterday reccying for the Friday run we turned into a car park and Lesley said "There's another Imp, with a foreign number plate!" .. so we parked behind. Turned out to be Ernst-Paul Keizer and Marg Smit holidaying before the National.

I am currently on a caravan holiday near to Hay-on-Wye, we have driven passed the Rising Sun 3 times so far!
If the Imp survives the national, the engine is playing up, I plan to attend the WW this year. If you can put me down for one man in a tent, that would be great.

Another quick update,we will be having a run out on the Sunday Afternoon as there doesn't seem to be any interest in the Big Pit tour,so it will be Hay Bluff with a twist, not saying any more just that the run back takes in a new road that is a proper Imp road,we recce'd it today and it is a fabulous road. :P

Re: Wicked Welsh 2016 - Friday run finalised

Post by philgsmith »

We've finalised the WWW Friday run based on an idea from Roy & Dawn. Lesley & I planned the route. We think the run will be fun, with a few options in/around Lydney

The Friday run will be to Taurus Crafts just outside Lydney. This is a small crafts village with plenty of small shops of interest.. including

Chocolate bar, Silk accessories, Farm foods including local beers and ciders ..
Bakery, Jewellery, Glass blowing, Sculptures, Pottery, Antiques

There is a nice coffee shop serving snacks and cakes etc. The coffee shop provides work experience and training opportunities for those with additional needs so that they may interact with the public and gain confidence. So please support their efforts.

http://www.tauruscrafts.co.uk/

On the same site is a Krazy Golf attraction with 15 holes themed on Forest of Dean attractions/destinations, each with artificial grass surface. Within the golf is a games barn with air hockey, table tennis and pool table plus a feature called Foot Pool (playing pool with your feet). They also have a small cafe selling snacks and cakes.
If you fancy chess, there is a large outdoor chess board.

Entry to the Krazy Golf is a day pass (adults £4.50, teens £4.00) so you can move between that and the craft site. Entry to the craft site is free.

http://krazygolflydney.co.uk/

There is also a plant nursery/small garden centre on site.

There is a large car park and they are keeping an area for us to park up together. It is just a few hundred yards outside Lydney, so you can pop back into Lydney High street for a walk about if you prefer. A Tesco stores sits between the venue and town. The Forest of Dean Railway may also be of interest, however no trains are running , but the shop, café and small museum is open.

We have devised a route via Imp friendly roads - quick and flowing, with some beautiful and historical views (Chepstow Bridge and Castle), and only a short stretch of dual carriageway.

Leave Rising Sun - 12:45
Arrive Taurus Crafts approx 14:00 approx 42 miles - 70 mins
Depart Taurus Crafts - 15:30 Obviously every one is free to make their own way back to Pandy
Arrive Rising Sun approx 16:40 approx 40 miles

A great run , which roads are you going on? You could try :
Grosmont ( Up the road) to Monmouth via Newcastle ( not that one ! ) And the Famous Rockfield recording studio . , over the bridge in Monmouth to the A 466 down through the wye valley following the River Wye passing the ruins of the famous Tintern Abbey Passing Chepstow racecourse on the left . Behind the racecourse is Piercefield park a beautiful place to visit , there are the ruins of a 1750 mansion and other buildings with outstanding Views over the estuary and severn bridge . My suggestion for the 2018 Imp national day which no one is taking seriously at the moment . so pop in on the way back ,take a look for yourself ....
1967 Imp Sport turbo 328000 Imp Miles , in the same car
1972 Clan Crusader 232000 clan Miles in the same car
must be some kind of record !

At risk of revealing too many details of 'the Friday run' it does, in fact, go past the entrance to Piercefield Park on the return run to Pandy - stop and have a look by all means. I did have a look at Piercefield when Nick first suggested it as a possible National Venue - it's a nice place and good walking country. However for the last few years it has been used for the 'Green Gathering Festival' (http://www.greengathering.org.uk/?doing ... 2480468750) over the usual Imp National weekend and that is certainly already booked for 2017 if not for future years. Unfortunately I don't think the Green Gathering Festival and the Imp Club would be happy sharing it over the same weekend! Whether it would be available on a weekend before or after the Green Gathering would be a matter for the owners - have you contacted them to ask?

Hi Nick

As Roy says we don't want to reveal too much about the route. I can say that we're not using the A466 except for a short stretch in Chesptow as we did Chepstow-Tintern-Monmouth two years ago. As a local you may guess the route back to Pandy..

Are you joining us (on the Friday or over the weekend)? Would be nice to see you and talk about Piercefield - I don't think we've ever met - we did discuss it at a couple of area meetings in Cardiff a good few months ago.

I've just looked at Roy's link to the Green Gathering.. "powered by wind, sun and people" .. ha, can't see 40-50 year old petrol engines being embraced.

Did you have your meeting?
Can I ask what the new owners are planning for food?
Will there be breakfasts available? If yes do they have to be pre-booked and on what days?
Ditto evening meals from Thursday to Sunday night Whats the food planned for the Saturday evening? (I can say it now but last years offerings were very poor in my opinion)
Would rather know in advance so know what provisions (apart from beer) we need to bring.

Hi Peter, yes we did have 'our meeting'
They are going to do the same as last year with the food on the Saturday Night, there will be a choice of 3 or 4 meals with a veggy option.
If they do Breakfast it will be pre booked only, they are getting back to me on it.
The Chef is new as are the Owners so I can't comment on the food although Roy and Dawn ate there earlier in the year and had no complaints.
Friday and Sunday will be from the Menu I believe.
I hope this helps Peter.

Counting down to this ,Clan is in the garage in bits as I refit the seat to the floor and add some electronic trickery to stabilise the rev counter ,make the fuel gauge more linear and add a go faster chip to help the flat spot at 4-6 k,I will give it a service and change the oils as well ,
Been online and I see it is a proper camping and caravanning site with all the mod cons, so we should be well catered for
I guess we must be taking over the entire site ?

If anybody who's camping wants an electric hook-up for the weekend but doesn't have an electric hook-up unit (EHU) I have a spare EHU and cable that I can bring along and lend out to somebody.
First come, first served.

We will be there, as always :D

We don't need a hook up or anything, just a pitch to camp!

See you in a week or so 8)
