Mike I have been looking at your photos. there are bits that look familiar to me and bits that don't. First off the Golden Springs Davrian (not to be confused with the Solo Stlletto) had a very simple (and light) arrangement for hanging the doors, (no hinges) just a tube glassed into the door and a top hat in a hole for the vertical tube to go into. The pedal box and driveshafts look like Tim Duffee mods to standard Imp bits.
If you have to go forward with you drive the Autograss boys use a transfer box that reverses the drive so that you canmount the engine the opposite way around. How much space do you have to put it the right way round, beariyng in mind that you can push the diff back a bit and angle the shafts forward a little.
The problem with mounting the engine inline is that you get a fair amount of oil surge, so you need to drysump or have some serious sump baffles sorted, if you can squeeze the engine in in the normal bike engine way then oil is less of an issue. I am dry sumping my current Imp/ bike engine installation.
We don't live that far apart, I live in Newton Abbot. I will be at Wiscombe this Saturday (paddock marshal) if you want a chat or PM me not sure how you do that on here.
Finally for now Alisrer Fenwick and Phil Gleed were from Calne, Wiltshire.

Regards Roy

Rawlson Davrian back at Ingliston at the w/e, after a gap of about 30 years !

Still wearing paint scheme, race number and scrutineer's ticket from 1/9/85.

Still trying to piece together it's history, and a few of the old tin-top guys there at the w/e reckoned it could be either Jimmy Jack's old car...or Ricky Gauld.... Best of all, however, was a visit from the neighbour of the last driver, Peter Chamberlain, who still lives in Alness. He said he'd pay Peter a visit on Monday (today) and would let me know what he finds out.

Got about 7 laps of the re-constituted track each day, following a pacecar....not that I'd have caught it !

For those on Facebook, search on "Jim Aldebert" for some great photos of the Ingliston Revival event.

It's just a 998 with R17, twin 40s and a standard box. As far as I can work out, the car ran in the 80's with a 5-speed box, and TJ fuel injection. It will be a while before I can afford that spec. equipment again.........

It had Spax coil-overs allround, but I put the rear back to std. spec with short Montes, as the top shock fabrication didn't look strong enough. Just as well, as the old circuit has a few bumps on it !

See my post, just up the page.........

Got loads of history on the car now, and will post up a summary soon.

For now, here is a photo of same car at Donnington in 1979.
(photo courtesy of Andrew Clegg via TenTenths forum)

It's looking like the car is the Chris Roberts / Adrian Gamble Chrade Imp. (CHRis / ADE-rian)

Maguire skoda built by John Maguire raced once by Tom Shepard 1300 bda hewland gearbox march uprights back end of 79 early 1980
Car was sold to hill climber Mike Hanson ( he had leg issue needed hand clutch) in late 1980
Last owner was Martin Brockhouse and he did some circuit races but mainly hill climbing with the car. Recently the car was bought and it had been broken down good parts sold off and the chassis body sold for a few quid to the present owner who has a lot of work to do to get it running again

Hi all
I'm just rubbing down the panels on the edwards car (page 5 of this forum). with a view to restoring it and was going to Paint in an original colour but I've found about ten different colours on the car (as with most race cars I suppose it's had a few different owners /sponsors) Which colour / sponsor was most memorable for this car and are there any pics about?

Mike , It's a slightly darker shade of baby blue.
Col I've only been messing around with it, I'm supposed to be finishing my sunbeam before I can invest any time or money on the edwards car! Nearly there now so I'm hoping to make a start on it this year.

Hi Steve,
I took the picture of the light blue Stiletto at Doune Hillclimb, I think it was about 1987 and I'm pretty sure the Driver was a Brian Innes from Skene, it was a Mason Stiletto with a 998 in it at that time.
Hope this might be of some help to you :-)

I can confirm the picture is of Brian Innes Mason Stiletto and was taken in 1985 or maybe 1986. I was there at the same time competing in my own spaceframe Stiletto, which was the car Brian owned before buying the Mason Stiletto. My spaceframe was a Maguire copy built in the North East of Scotland by Brian Fletcher who raced it at Ingliston in the early '80's. John Whyte also competed in a red Mason Stiletto at the same time before buying the Dave Whitehead BDA Stiletto a couple of years later. Harry Simpson inhe Sportstune Maguire Stiletto was also a regular competitor at this time.

Hi Mapman,
Thanks for that, I had the wrong date in my post, I have changed it now, it was the April 1987 Doune that I took that picture, as I still have the program, and just had a look at it. Paul Batey Stiletto 998, John Whyte Stiletto 1294, Brian Innes Mason Stiletto 998 and Harry Simpson Imp 998, there was a bigger turn out at the next meeting in September 1987 with James McDonald Mason Stiletto 998, Mark Kershaw Mason Stiletto 998, Neil Hancox Maguire Stiletto 1240, Ian Fidde Maguire Stiletto 1240, John Whyte Stiletto 1294 and Harry Simpson Imp 998.

It needs to be raced. I have a fresh chessman engine with an r21 twin 40s to go in it and I think a quaife box, but....the car needs a hell of a lot of work. The trouble I have is I'm a bit of a perfectionist and this is a race car that was built to go quick and look good at 10 feet...I want it to go quick and look good when you stand next to it!

And then I'll crash it...

I'm a bit of perfectionist too. And yep. That's what I did. I am still re-rebuilding the car.

Be sure to start a Readers' Cars thread. It would be amazing to follow another spaceframe Imp build. 8)

I'm fairly sure Gary Prebble still owns the car, I've got a customer who saw it in his barn recently
It's still as it was after the crash and would need a major amount of work to sort it out. I think it
was converted to run a 1300cc talbot engine built by Ray Payne.

If This car is the car that Rob Knox had,it was driven by Wil Arif at times in late 80's Brands Hatch "Winter Warmer" end of season races. The cars owner at that time was I think named Graham!!?? Rob may well have some more info. The car certainly had Brabham corners . I do bump into Wil at times ,will try and get more info next time I see him. Am sure Rob will reply soon too.

Hi Stuart,

yes that's the case, I've checked with who saw it about 18 months ago and it's in a (very)crashed state.

I'd originally seen it at the workshops at Hartwells when it had the Peugeot engine fitted. From what I remember Ray telling me, even with the bigger engine fitted it was not as quick as when it was Imp powered.

Are you going to Thruxton on Saturday?

The car was maintained by Reg Patten he might be able to help you out, I had the Hewland Mk9 box rebuilt.
The car was bought with a view to running 2 Imps in a series that was started by SEMSEC at Lydden but my father's love for pigeon racing took over car racing. My love for the Maguire took over so the car was sold.
The guy was called Graham 0208 647 6952 or 07770 773039 that number is 14 years old, but he was doing a house restoration and if its anything like a car restoration he may well still be doing it...
It was ran a few times at Lydden when John Woods could fit in the seat that is!!!

Nice to see you now have 2 of my cars!! Do you want a third?
