AQUARIUS IMP 1974
Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me locate my old Imp that I sold in 1978 on a " M " plate before being posted to Cyprus for two year's.
Some history on it.
I purchased it in Germany in 1974, took it over the border to Roermond in Holland and had it under sealed with Dinitrol.I traded some petrol coupons for two Berlina bullet type racing mirror's that I fitted to the wing's.
After two year's of trouble free motoring around Germany,Holland and Belgium it was back to UK,in the time that I had it the only part's needed were a water pump and rocker cover gasket.
Unable to get it shipped to Cyprus I ended up selling it to the sister-in-law.
On my return I find that the engine had blown up -- no oil.
She sold it on to someone in Darlington.
No record of Veh.Reg.No.
Now up to date.
While sat outside a pub in Darlington what goes past but an Aquarius( Blue/Turquoise ) coloured Imp with two bullet wing mirror's.Coincidence ?
If any one can help with locating it,it would be much appreciated.
She was a great little car.
Thank's for any help.

Re: AQUARIUS IMP 1974
Hi Stew,
Welcome to the Forum!
Our summer 'National' event is in Darlington this year (6th-10th August) at Darlington Rugby Club. As there can't be that many bullet-mirrored Aquarius Imps whizzing around Darlington so I'd say there is a good chance it is your old one. As most Imps are now owned by Imp Club members I would say there is a very good chance it will be at our National. Could be worth popping along.
Hopefully one of the local members will respond and may be able to say if they are familiar with the car.
Don't supose you can remember any of the other digits on the reg apart from the last?

If you can find the reg no from an old photo the first step would be to check on https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dvla to see if it survives. I would say that if it does there is a good chance it was the one you saw in Darlington.Stew7019 wrote:As to the reg.no. nothing but I have forty years of photo's I can look through and just maybe.

Welcome to the forum.
Have a look around on this website. There is only one Aquarius metallic Imp in the M-registered section on this page and it does not have bullet mirrors.

No, not on the doors. Stew's were on the wings (though I suspect he may have meant the bonnet!).The Nun wrote:Yep I had a check there too, I assume the one your looking for has mirrors like this? on the doors?

I know this Singer lives on the out skirts of Darlington , I know the owner very well , not a 74 , but with a short glimpse , you don't always catch the reg or model

Re: AQUARIUS IMP 1974
Thanks for the interest shown by members.
Went through photo's from the 70's and found photo of KE316B when it was registered with British Forces Germany.
Also found two close up's with the kid's sat on the bonnet (not the wing's as Graham noted) but no reg. in the shot.
One thing they did remind me of was that when in Germany I took some plastic chrome trim from around the roof guttering of a army Ford Escort and fitted it to the Imp looked pretty good.
Next step is to see if I can find who bought the Imp from the sister-in-law.
Just to say at the moment I own a 74 MG Midget but I hope you won't hold that against me.
This seems to be a good club
Thanks again
Stew

It's an EXCELLENT club! Very sociable and friendly. In fact, we even have a class for Visitors' cars/Non-Imps at our National so you and your MG would be made very welcome. No need to book, just turn up at any time over the weekend though Sunday is the day when all the cars are lined up for viewing/judging. On other days we have runs out, and you can of course participate in these in your Midget too though if in a convoy it is always appreciated if non-Imps are at the end of the convoy.

Ahh, but would a midget be able to keep up with all those 998's? We wouldn't want to embarress our guest.

Hi Kilty,
Sorry no, played football up there but I was based at 17 B.V.D. Monchengladbach 73 to 76. R.A.O.C.
The stadium we played on is now Borrussia Monchengladbach's new stadium.
Thanks

Re: AQUARIUS IMP 1974
I've got an Aquarius Imp on an 'M' reg, and it does have bullet mirrors at the moment, but I don't think it did before. I know nothing of its history, other than it lived in Dorset/Devon for much of its life, so probably not that one!
