An interesting weekend - dry but cool on Saturday and damp becoming wet on Sunday (with torrential downpour just after our race which held up racing for a while). Although the only other Imps were Adrian Oliver and Shaun Hazlewood on the entry list, Colin and Ian Gunton had got their cars sorted after Donington and got late entries.

Had a good run in qualifying to line up 8th for race 1, averaging just over 87 mph round this very challenging circuit. Roger Godfrey had qualified just a tenth behind in his 1300 mini and we had a great battle for most of the race though he got away by a couple of seconds towards the end when I had a bit of back marker trouble at the wrong place. The second race was quite damp and then it bagan to rain towards the end. I managed to get up to fourth in the first couple of laps and then noticed this large dark green car in my mirrors, the Mk 1 Jag of Roger Cope which non-finished the first race and had started at the back. He slowly closed up and then we started swapping places a couple of times per lap, with the Jag passing me in the long run from Church uphill to the chicane and the Imp having better traction out of the chicane being able to get back past before the finish line each lap. Then on the last lap, he disappeared and I later found out that he had spun after being edged onto a slippery part of the track by a Galaxie when he was lapping it.

Adrian qualified 11th, Colin 14th (though he was only just getting going when he had a problem which seemed to be a leaking wills ring and thus ended his weekend early) Shaun was 16th and Ian 19th. In Saturday's race, Adrian was 11th, Ian 15th and Shaun 20th after a spin early in the race. On Sunday, Adrian was 7th and putting on a great show of sideways driving for the spectators and marshalls, Ian was 10th and Shaun 12th. And we were all wet!

Great to chat to several club members and many other enthusiasts who were there - next up is Silverstone on the GP circuit which is far more enjoyable in an Imp than you might think, thanks to all the corners with multiple changes of direction.

Awesome result from all the hillmans on this very fast circuit (110mph plus )
i was able to watch the race from my mobile phone on the hscc live timing website, whilst hid in the sister in laws bathroom, as i was on my best behaviour attending a family get to gether! Having seen the jag catching benoy i was getting quite anxious, whist secretly hoping that 3rd place man (godfrey) in the mini pulled one of his kamakazi manovers on 2nd place cortina putting both cars off, this would have given Benoy a podium position. Anyway everyone behaved this time, and Benoy had to settle with 4th.
cheers Andy

I have merged the threads for HSCC racing for 2014 - hopefully keeping things tidy.

For those who were at Donington, if you have any photos, the HRSR photographer was unwell and not able to attend so the HRSR website is lacking !

A friend of an Imp Club member took some photos at Thruxton on the Saturday and has posted them on:

www.PCH-photography.co.uk

I was very impressed, his usual subject matter is wildlife, so Mustangs, Jaguars and Chamois should be OK! Do Imps count?

Thanks to Paul for the pictures.

Got my transaxle back Saturday with a new crown wheel/pinion and got the box and engine back in the car between showers and committee meetings.

Battery on charge and new tyres also needed - off to see Mr Dunlop for some historic crossplies at the weekend.

Looking forward to the GP circuit, but it does take a long time to get round - 2m 45s or thereabouts. Some great sections for Imps though.

The meeting has a big entry list with more than 50 cars in some races - we have 25 or so in saloons, I think. Timetable and entry list etc on http://www.hscc.org.uk

Found some good pictures of the weekend!

I had one of my brake calipers seize half way through practice, then while trying to sort it that the master stared sticking as Arhh! and to top it all I could not bleed it as the bleed screw would not shift so the choice was spongy brakes or snapping off the bleed and no race.

Rolling start was the order of the day which seemed to go well considering the lack of horsepower. I Had a good race with an Anglia and a v8 Falcon which got away from me after a while, then i went a bit mad on the brakes try to catch him again and spun loosing out the to Anglia again.
Simon stopped not sure why as he was running up the front very well as usual, and Colin's car was smoking very badly so I presume stopped due to oil problems.
Shaun also had a good run in his Imp and was not far behind me.

Cheers

Colin was black flagged due to the smoke/leak from his catch tank and I don't think there was any problem with his car other than the new rings pressurising the system and pushing out some oil. He made a demon start from 4th on the grid to be second out of the first corner - I was pleased to go from 6th to 5th but this became 6th again on Hanger straight when the no 7 Lotus Cortina from 5th went back past. By then Colin was also back to 3rd.
A couple of laps or so later he pulled off and the no 37 Cortina in 3rd also retired leaving me running 4th and I was getting stuck in trying to catch the no 7 as the track was cleaning up when there was some loss of power and I switched off before it got too expensive.

Congratulations to Adrian for a well earned class win after perservering to get the car out - (have you managed to loosen that bleed screw yet?) and to Shaun, both cars sounding lovely as they went past where I was parked.

Snetterton next on 8th June for a double header.

Thanks for the write ups, guys. :) I dallied with the idea of coming up to Silverstone but decided to stay at home and crack on with the Chamois. I am glad that I did, although I always enjoy watching live motor sport.

Simon, do you know what gremlins befell your race car? :?:

All set for Snetterton bleed the spongy brakes and blew up the tire's hoping for a dash of damp! the usual suspects on the entry list.

I noticed the DNF - hope nothing is broken too badly - also noticed a lack of Gunton cars. Hope nothing seriously wrong with all the cars and you're all out at Cadwell Park.

Great day out at Cadwell park today, thankyou for the tickets mr benoy.
I found it hard watching the little imps go round, i felt very anxious before and during the race, certainly felt like the longest 20 minutes i have ever experienced !
Anyway thankyou to all the imps for great show ! Simon for 2 class wins, Adrian for driving round the outside of Steve, Steve for not taking him out, Shaun for the having the best motorhome in the world ( a 40 ft coach), Stuart for poping impressive overun flames out of his exhaust pipe.
looking forward to gold cup, even if only to stand with the 3 amigos and the rest of the loyal imp fans!
cheers andy

Had a great day apart from the last bit sore today!
Misfire cured managed to go 2 seconds faster than my best at Cadwell in first race, and had a great race with Steve and for once I managed to get the better of him. Race 2 forgot how to operate gearbox at the start on then fell off at then end uhummm!

A splendid day's racing (except for Adrian's off and Shaun's driveshaft failure) - great weather, a good and varied grid and I was able to beat the Minis in race 2! Many thanks to Andy Jones who came along to watch but ended up helping me to modify my cooling system and knock 10 deg C off the highest temps. Also great to see Impers along to support from all over, Keith from Gloucs, Colin from Essex, Traco from Derby, Kim & Robin from Teesside, Andy & Gemma from Cheshire, 2 amigos and others - it's great that you enjoy the racing and the socialising and I think that the Imp teams are better supported than any others in the race, thanks to all.

Hi Lars

I think most of the Impers rate Cadwell as one of their favourite tracks - my fastest lap this year would have put me on pole and given me a potential win just 5 years ago, but cars in all classes have got faster in the meantime. And the entry for this race was probably the highest quality we have had so far this season. The Mustangs and the best of the Cortinas were around 2 secs faster than my best, it used to be that they were quick on the straights but didn't handle too well - now they are quicker on the straights and handle better so we need a drop of rain to beat them but if it is wet we can't usually beat the Minis!

Next round is on the Brands Hatch GP Circuit, another circuit which is a lot of fun in an Imp!
