It wont fit on the Singer without more modding and besides it would wreck the stainless gutter trim and thats a big no no .
Ive more of less decided to just leave it on the Vusky full time . I removed it the other day to replace all the nuts and bolts with stainless ones and it looked odd without it :?

perhaps i should do a poll
rack on or off

Rack on will affect your fuel consumption obviously and may create a lot of wind noise over 80mph.

Re: Noddys natterings ,Vusky running on three

Post by Dave ' Linwood ' Lane » Fri Jul 26, 2013 9:36 pm

Well this is a tad weird .
Vuskys running on three cylinders most of the time , cylinder cuts in and out and its hideous under load ie. hoofing it one.
So far ive done the following for elimination purposes
fitted new.
Cap
Lead on number two
Plug on number two
Swapped leads / plugs about / still number two regardless whats on what.
So Ive ruled out the lead / plug / cap / rotor arm
Compressions seems fine although il do a proper plugs out WOT test tomorrow .
pertronics fitted so no poimts / condensor etc

Any ideas , im knackered and cant think :?

guessing at a burnt valve do a cylinder leak down test because if the burning is only minor it will only highlight the miss at certain conditions during valve overlap

Well ive had a play and have come up with zilch.
Did a leak down using my mates compressor and its fine , comp is 180psi BTW , changed the plugs again for some Denso ones , changed the coil and the rotor arm , i recon now it could possibly be the pertronics ignition but what with the back i can no longer bend or contort myself over its arse end to faf about any more
Carpal tunnels not helping none either.
Ive some points and condensor here so maybe il try that one day .
However the upshot is ive lost the will to carry on with the thing .
No idea what to do with it now as its plain i cant maintain it as i did when i was younger , nor the Singer for that matter,

So have I and im not going either, your welcome to come down any time before this Thursday and not Monday afternoon , would be great to see you and ive still got yer nuts

Had another small play , first off i swapped the magnet part of the pertronics from the Singer into the van , no difference whatsoever and still a miss-fire on number two , also tried moving the original one to a different position on the dizzy shaft  , still missing on number 2 , if theres 4 magnets in there then that doesnt compute in my head one bit .
So i relented and refitted points and condenser , these being some aged NOS stuff lying about.
Miss-fire seemed to have gone .
Refitted the old coil and still no miss-fire .
Re-fitted old plugs and still no miss-fire

So Im thinking the Pertronics unit has gone tits up , reading endless streams of stuff on the net they do have a fair amount of them fail. Talk of wrong coils , getting too hot etc etc . some swear by them and some at them.
It Needs more driving and im still not 100% that the Pertronics IS the actual problem as I was under the impression they either work or fail totally and not cause a miss-fire especially on one cylinder only which like reading all the waffle on the net has stewed my brain.
My back is now broken as is my will to live :x

When I was on the way to the irish meeting 3 year ago the car developed a misfire on no,2 but on on tickover ,so we kept her lit and do 1,265 miles in the 5 days back home I done the compression test and all was good ,then forward on to may this year and the misfire was still there yet the car was going really well ,but the tickover was getting worse so I pulled the head off to find a bent exhaust valve only very slight but over the 3 years it had worn the guide ,I was like you mate I put it down to the electronic ign that it had a fault when no revs were on it ,you know your self its going to be something stupid ,these little cars do things just to keep us learning and on our toes Rooney001

shame you wont be at national if you change your mind you know where we all we be in the bar

FWIW, Dave - I had similar with my Ignitor on Pele. It drove me utterly potty trying to find the issue - eventually I swapped it out for proper points and condensor (from the Distributor Doctor - who also said he'd never heard of the Ignitor ever giving trouble). Instantly, the car drove better and the misfire was gone.

Vick still has one on Skye, but personally speaking, I have got to the end of patience with electronic gizmos. So far in the last 12months I've resolved three cars' ills by removing electronic ignition systems - don't get me started about the utter shower of sh one T that is the Accuspark stuff... utter crap.

To all those about to chime in with "mine's been brilliant"... I'm sure it has. Enjoy it. I used to feel the same, but now I'm very happy with NOS points and condensors, thanks.

If I was more local, mate, I'd pop over to give a hand... although between the two of us, we'd be pretty useless - you with your Carpal Tunnel and my slipped disc in my neck has flared up, so we could just stand there tea in hand and point at it not working... a bit like old times, mate!

Hope you get it sorted soon, mate. Keep smiling.

I never use electronic ignition .don't trust it . ive used points and condensors from the distributer doctor for years now with non ever letting me down .my mate used an aldon system on his moggy after being talked into it at a show .we fitted it there at the show it did a weeks worth of driving and went south got another one under warrenty about a month wet by bother again so he sent it back and had a refund .he now uses d/d's parts and never had a problem that was 3 years ago now he wont have electronic ignition near his moggy now ,weve just done 500 miles this last week in my wifes minx on holiday carrying 5 adults and it never missed a beat ..all done on points and condensors .sorry but modern technology don't do it for me .

Been using the Vusky all day , mainly for floggage of stuff at a car boot sale , So far the miss-fire has failed to reappear so im confident in saying it WAS the Pertronics unit that failed.

The only modern thing on it and it gives up.

Well there was no point in sitting at home wondering what the national was like so me and Mrs Nods went on a little camping road trip for a few nights in Sunny / thundery Cornwall Thursday and Friday night and coming home today ( Saturday ).

We decided on Bodmin and found a brilliant campsite here.

http://www.ruthernvalley.com/contact_us/contact_us.php

Camp Noddy

Image

Its in the middle of no where really so its very quite which is what we were after.
First afternoon was spent looking for something we saw on the map that seemed to now not be there :? so eventually we ended up back in Bodmin in a pub called the Hole in the Wall . It was full of drunk but friendly locals one of which bought us both a drink. The Steak and Ale pie made 1/2 hour before was stunning , we even saw the pint of real ale being pulled for said pie. They know how to live down there.
Friday was a trip to Padstow then on to Wadebridge .
Padstow AKA Padstine was heaving to say the least and we had to park up the top and walk down.
Annies foot was not happy by this time so come the end of our time there i left her in Padstow , walking up to the Vusky and drove down to pick her up.
If you want to cause chaos in Padstow drive an Imp thats all il say.
Then on to Wadebridge for some shopping , by this time there was thunder in the air and by the time we returned to the campsite it was hoofing it down with added thunder and lightening .
Annie wasnt too keen on being under loads of trees in a tent at this time

Image

Camp Noddy was dismantled this morning and we went to Fowey , much like Padstow only smaller , prettier and less busy , again we walked down but found a small bus to take us back to the car park.
Then over the on the Bodinnick ferry to Lostwithiel then home via Liskeard , Tavistock, Okehampton and Exeter .

The ferry at Fowey

Image

Stopped off at Route 303 American Diner for lunch and what a meal that is , recommended if your down this way ever.

Image

Total mileage 338
Oil used , no idea I never checked.
Coolant used , see above . :o
Spanners used , one 5/16 ring spanner to adjust the wing mirror after i whacked it with a suitcase
Vusky started instantly hot or cold or half hot / half cold EVERY TIME :D
Fuel used , no idea , never checked , just fed it when it wanted some.
Ive got to say it ran perfectly even though it was loaded to the gunnels and its VERY hilly around these parts :D

Great photies Noddy. :D

We'll be in St Ives on Wednesday - in the T4 Campervan though (grown-up kids + other halves in tents)...hope the rain goes North - we need it on the garden up here in Richmond!

I must admit that I prefer Conwall in May-June mind-up only because no school kids - well it's not the kids that get on me goat - it's the parents shouting and screaming at them that pi$$$ me off!
