Imp Ecosse April 2013.
Just to let you know that I phoned owner of the Imp Ecosse campsite to book a caravan and he said the last one was booked earlier today. He said that most went on Saturday and he is very happy with the Imp club. I have got the holiday cottage so its tents, caravans and campers only now. He recommends booking soon. A very nice guy to deal with. With National being in Scotland I am pleasantly surprised at how popular Ecosse is next year.

Well its not all good news. I had put quite a bit of effort promoting the idea of people in my area going.
One of the main points they were interested in was my report on how good the accommodation was this year.
Now its all gone I don't think tents will sell the idea to many I refer to.

Re: Imp Ecosse April 2013.
Worry not! I have been in contact with the site owner, Mungo, and he is currently drawing up a list of holiday cottages in the area that will take the overspill, all local to the site. I should have the list in the next 24 hours so if you are still looking for accommodation please get in touch with me and I can put you in touch with the owners.
However if you are intending to bring your own caravan or motorhome it might be a good idea to get booking ASAP as the draw of Dumfries and Galloway is working on the members. The camping ground is well drained and on high ground (nearer the sun) and there are plenty of pitches still available.
I must say that the success of the article in Impressions is remarkable and shows the benefit of placing adverts in it.
Hear and see you soon

I know people who are putting an extra effort to finishing the long overdue restoration on the Imps they have.
The 50th year is becoming a focus point for this.
I am worried this Ecosse very early booking may be a precursor to the national being overwhelmed

Re: Imp Ecosse April 2013.
There are currently two triple rooms available at the Ken Bridge Hotel which is only 7 miles away from the Holiday Park. I cannot vouch for the rooms but the meals are excellent. They can be had on a B&B basis by contacting David on 01644 420211 and mention Imp Ecosse. They also have a web site at www.kenbridgehotel.co.uk.
As accommodation i.e. residential caravans, is very scarce, is there anyone who has booked a caravan with room to spare and willing to share?
If so can you post on here and sort things out between you.
Will post here if any further accommodation becomes available. Still plenty of motor home and tourer spaces as well as camping pitches all with electric hook ups.
Thanks
Ian Sinclair

Re: Imp Ecosse April 2013.
As promised here is some more accommodation information:
There is lots of accommodation available on a first come first served basis at the Galloway Activity Centre just 2 minutes up the road from the Loch Ken Holiday park HQ on the A 713.
Accommodation varies from 2 berth timber lodges, 4-6 berth timber lodges, bunk house with accommodation for 20 and Mongolian Yurts that take 6 people.
There is also a cafe on site that can provide breakfasts etc.
Accommodation can be seen at www.lochken.co.uk and the prices are being held at this year's rates (those shown on the web) until the turn of the year. You can book on 01644 402626 by leaving a 1 night deposit.
Hope this helps

According to google by car its 3.1 mi, and 7 mins away.wiskid wrote:There is lots of accommodation available on a first come first served basis at the Galloway Activity Centre just 2 minutes up the road from the Loch Ken Holiday park HQ on the A 713.
The sudden lack of accommodation on site so far in advance is the only problem I have with this event.
Having a sociable drink was something I enjoyed very much this year.
Since I never drink anything and drive after, then the appeal to go is a whole lot less TBH

/\ Castle Douglas is only 7miles away and even in this remote backwater they have taxis.
Organise a minibus for those staying at the activity centre and don't imagine the cost each will be very much.

Re: Imp Ecosse April 2013.
Carry outs are quite common in Scotland i.e. bring your own drink to the site, if you need drink so much to have a sociable evening.
Imp Ecosse has always been a less formal Imp get together than the National. At Perth you will be spoiled by the size of the bar and the amazing views that drinking on the balcony will give you. At Imp Ecosse you will make friends that will stay with you for the rest of your life because they and you shared a drink over a camp fire into the wee small hours.

Reading between the lines in your post, am I right in thinking that there is no catering or bar facilities on sight
What else is planned apart from the camp fire

Re: Imp Ecosse April 2013.
There is a run out on Friday evening to Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas where there are numerous catering establishment.
On Saturday there is also a run organised during which there are plenty of stop off points for refreshments, meals etc and a three course meal at night which can be booked at registration.
There is no catering on site other than a catering van supplying cooked meals of the chilli, pasta type variety but there are no bar facilities and no objections to bringing your own supply of drink. There is a games room that can be used as a meeting place with music, snooker etc.

Hi folks,
I have just booked a couple of the basic log cabins (69 each cabin for two nights) at the activity centre a couple of miles up the road. http://www.lochken.co.uk/accommodation/cabins
They tell me they have one cabin left and the bunk house dorm that could be block booked.
Cheers Giles

Re: Imp Ecosse April 2013.
Hi all, I didn't realise that the residentials would all be booked out before Christmas so I missed the boat or should I say caravan on that one The touring caravan I have just now is too big to tow behind the Imp (looking for a Rapido, Paradiso or Portafold as a replacement) and I don't want to turn up in the modern so I wondered if anyone has a room to sublet in their residential, could they keep me in mind please? I'm looking to stay on the Friday & Saturday night only and I'm fully house trained too, honest!!
If all else fails, I'm keeping an eye on the travel lodges prices
Regards, Jim

/\ Oops !
I was expecting a voice of doom about the winter conditions getting set back this far.
Won't be the first time snow has fallen on Imp Ecosse I know.
Yet the present weather can't be described as anything like spring so far.

Re: Imp Ecosse April 2013.
Quite right Dave a complete error, should have been posted on Linwood posting.
I blame a new lap top and me trying too hard to make things work from it.
Weather in the D&G area has been spectacular with the GB winter Olympic team training down the Dalbeattie road which has been closed for that purpose. The jack knifed trucks have been doubling as grand stands for the spectators, but we all know that Imps can get through anything and a wee bit of snow is only character building.
I bet you a pint that the weather will change long before Ecosse - change to what I cannot say.
regards
Ian

Re: Imp Ecosse April 2013.
Went round all the roads to be used at Ecosse today and all snow is clear. The camp site has extended its hard standing for caravans and motorhomes and the grass for camping is also clear of snow. The hills are looking splendid in the sunlight and although it is still a little cold things are looking up for a great weekend.
If you are intending to come to Ecosse could you please drop me a PM with your party number so I can advise the caterers of numbers to expect for the Saturday evening meal.
Many thanks
Ian

Re: Imp Ecosse April 2013.
Lots of people are wanting to know the programme of events at this weekends Imp Ecosse so here is a summary:
Friday evening a "Supper Run" to Castle Douglas will allow everyone to stock up with provisions and an evening meal. Convoy leaves site at 6:30. Back in time for the traditional Bonfire and Blether in the open air if dry or at reception area if wet.
On Saturday the sightseeing run takes in a Gem Museum, shops and café, and finally a session at the David Coulthard Motor Museum where all his cars from Go-Kart to F1 and his many trophies are on display. At this museum the voting on the most attractive Imp takes place and awards will be presented during the evening festivities.
The evening takes the form of a three course sit down meal at the Parton Village Hall with entertainment from Rod Stewart (or could that be Rob Stewart?)
Sunday is Drive it Day and there will be a run to Kirkcudbright along the Solway Cost to meet with another Classic Car Club. In the evening there is also another impromptu meal for those members who are staying overnight.
We will be organising a raffle so all potential prizes will be gratefully received and if you are coming please let me know the number in your party and if anyone of them are vegetarians.
Looking forward to meeting you all and to show you the glorious Dumfries & Galloway countryside.

Re: Imp Ecosse April 2013.
Just checked BBC Weather Forecast for Castle Douglas - dry Fri, Sat, Sun, and 9-10 deg.
Ok, so rain Thu and Mon, but not bad as arrangements go! Better than the "Extreme Raffle" a few years ago..

Brilliant, fantastic, wonderful. Yet another great Imp Ecosse. Beautiful scenery, great site, odd little cars and most importantly top company. A fun, laid back event. What this club seems to do so well. Thanks to all involved. Big thanks to Ian Sinclair.

Lots of good pictures of the Saturday run starting off from Loch Ken on the Loch Ken facebook site.
If you enjoyed your stay at Loch Ken why not leave a message on "trip advisor" as our host would be interested in your experiences on the site.
Glad you all enjoyed the weekend as much as I did, I knew you would like the roads.

Not so sure they would like my opinion on there TBH. Every time I went for a shower in the block they were cleaning it.
For 2 solid hours said the sign..
Anyway here are my photos.

I called off at Clarks on the way back and I will be putting some photos on his Gillie thread sometime soon.
Enjoy

Re: Imp Ecosse April 2013.
Just wanted to add my heartfelt thanks to Ian and also those involved in putting on a superb event for Imp Ecosse 2013. I followed Scott Clements down the old A702 from Abington and the Saltire did a fantastic job of trying to keep up with him in his MX5. I haven't had so much fun driving the car in ages I enjoyed the road so much I went back that way too.
The scenic runs were brilliant and I hadn't realised what a lovely area Dumfries & Galloway was, I'll certainly be back there at some point. The meal on the Saturday night was absolutely delicious, top marks to the caterers.
A big thank you must also go to Sue & Andy Ellis, Scott Clements & Alan Barron for letting me stay in their caravan, it was greatly appreciated, much warmer than a tent and the cooked breakfast in the morning was an added bonus.
see you all at Linwood & Coventry in May,
regards, Jim

Re: Imp Ecosse April 2013.
I think the cleaning started after 10:00am so perhaps they thought everyone would be finished by that time.
Anyway better clean than complaints about being dirty. Glad you enjoyed the vegetarian option at the meal - beer is made from hops after all!

Ha ha, someone moaning that somewhere is too clean?! Brilliant!
I was in there once while they were cleaning, she was very nice. And thanks for the link to those pictures, they were fab.

I am sure they were spotless. After all they were cleaned for 2 hours out of every day.
Obviously there was no issue with cleaning the ladies facility's where the cleaner was the same sex.
So at least they were open to use while the cleaning and chatting was going on.
