Grip tape to stop feet slipping whilst entering or exiting the car. Like the stuff used on exterior staircases and some skateboards.
Has an almost abrasive finish Mike? There are other types however. I' d wager it isn't just going on the sills though.

Cheers for the info you will see my plan when i get to that bit as the car will be running carpets as i plan to be able to do night rallies in it aswell.

so far bonnet and boot edge strips fitted, wiper linkage, rear lights fitted, rear engine bay loom fastend in place, bonnet pins set and painted black rather than the boy racer red, rear side windows fitted, front right hand loom in place, front brake pipe bulkhead fittings in position, tapped out the threads on most captive nuts and studs now that is a boring job!

not much happend worth taking a picture of but the dash loom is nearly finished so the dash can go back in and the car powered up to test everything, new design gear linkage nearly finished, new clutch arm with roller release bearing that does not fall forwards nearly done, gearbox away been stripped and we know what it needs, engine goes onto engine stand next weekend ready for re-build time, rear suspension is on and final fit completed, front uprights built inc brakes, rear brakes built but issue found with the mod for running the brake pipes and cables opposite way round to prevent damage from gravel soloution simple and sorted, driveshafts fully re-built and ready to fit inc lots of measurements and testing of ideas for keeping the hubs attatched, headlight bulbs fitted, new windscreen to fit when seal arrives, seat brackets stripped and cleaned ready for fitting, front and rear looms powered up and tested from the plugs all works ok, al lthat but it still feels like we have got know where this last week many hours but little changed. still will come together next week when it will be sat on its wheels and rolling again.

Come on Mike you know we like pics  even of mundane stuff.

Details on your gearshift would be interesting. I used 2 rosejoint at the front and a couple of 3/8 socket extensions and a UJ (because I'm tight and proper UJ's very expensive) to replace the flexi - works very well in the Imp - in the Clan its a shorter shift than an Escort with a Quick Shift which does lead to some confusion which gear its in although when on the move its OK, I think its due to the shorter gear lever.

Looking great.

Is that rear back plate on the wrong side :?: I know its supposed to be upside down as I've done that mod but in my head the levers are pointing the wrong way :?

Not sure about the aircraft switch which I take are battery cut off and fire extinguishers for 2 reasons (posted before you labelled the pics )
1. After about 2 years :? one of mine started springing off by itself - less of a problem for battery, real pain if its the fire extinguishers that goes off.
2. Trip into the bushes or branches close to the edge of the road could cause them to trip or even something hitting them large insect would do it as takes little effort.

Push buttons would be more suitable ideally with a cover but not seen such a thing.

back plates maybe on the wrong side been mocking everything up and trying side to side cannot remember where i left it, toggle switches are military spec under water proof covers plus protected by the aircraft covers you have to lift the cover and move the switch so if an insect or branch hits them it is only in the safe direction i was always surprised by people who use the covers for the ignition switch and do not reverse the operating position i.e they drive round with the cover lifted and the switch on so if the cover drops it turns things off????

Re ignition switch I had my fitted that way so it was easy to kill the engine with the merest brush off the cover imho I'd be more concerned with accidental trip switching the ign on.

Scott[/quote]

mine is wired so that the master kills everything so an accidental ign on when parked up or left alone is no issue if you kill the master, last thing i want is a bump or clumsy co-driver map board knocking the ign off mid drift on a corner instant throttle off =oversteer = accident, master switch is also a latching switch so it locks on.

Another patented modification

Other thought I had was having the linings moved which since you had shoes relined with a comp material would not be much of a problem but would have cost me money

Sorry Mike, me being stupid - off course they are in the off position in normal use I'm getting confused by the need to arm the fire extinguisher
the external ones are triggers.

to arm the fire extinguisher the box of gubbins was taken to bits and mounted in co driver panel much neater and a 9 volt battery holder let into the panel as well i will take a pic to explain more

Hi all. Just been reading this thread. Looks too good to rally! Regarding the rear brake backplate swap, I did that in 1979 after having a pipe ripped off a cylinder in a forest somewhere. Keeps the pipe and cable out of harms way and makes for easier shoe adjustment too. If I remember right I put tubes on the h/brake end of the cables to take up the slack. Regards. Mike

Hi Mike. It's a long time ago. I think I fitted the shoes on as normal. they used to wear slightly oddly but seemed to work better (vg95's) so I just left them like that. I think I had Sunbeam calipers on the front and a home made pedal box using an alternator bearing. Fantastic brakes! Nice rack mounts. For sale? Price? Regards. Mike

rack mounts could be for sale but to make cost effective i need to produce them in big batches i have made a few sets all pre-sold to people who i know when they say they want them they will pay for them after previous attempts at batch making parts and trying to make enough profit to make my initial set free to me i.e. not much profit i probably will not bother making any more unles there is serious interest.

transaxle pride of place on the bench thanks Dave for sorting out the mess from the last builder, front rad pipes had final fit today, look really good such a shame the rules state i have to paint them red. Engine next on the list start tomorrow after i have finished another imp engine for a friend who has been waiting patiently whilst i travelled the world playing with rally cars. the brake pipes are back from atec with the welded ends just need to line up the flexi bits so they can be crimped loads of little bits done but nothing worth pictures looking forward to a test drive now.

rad pipes back and finished now just require powder coating red as per rules engine stripped and inspected off to machine shop for some work the water jackets are spotless i put this down to running demin and blue anti-freeze. special tool made for torquing the main cap nuts under the strengthening plate found a crack on the support arm for the oil pump pickup shrouds and the actual pick up pipe looks to have a hairline crack this due to the sump gaurd giving the sump a thump at some point need to collect trick sump to check clearance and ensure this cannot happen again. photos to follow if i have time. progress made on the re-furb of the gear linkage nylon ball from malcolm working well should be a nice set up.
