They don't have to be metal, anything will do aslong as it's resistant to the antifreeze/coolant and a bit of heat. I use a combination of silicon bends and oversize rubber heater hose

For a road car you can use anything really. For competition you'll need to consult the Blue book.

Blue book says on page 145, Section J 5.10.1 - "Have any fluid lines or tubes carrying coolants through the driver/passenger compartment painted red, and if non-metallic to be internally or externally metal braided hydraulic pressure hose."

pipe in the car should be 1 piece most people seem to use copper pipe i can make them in alloy not cheap but very lite

metal best as it gets rid of some heat from the coolant on it's way through , Every little helps ! Imp009
