Re: HSCC Historic Touring Cars 2011
Just looked through some of those "Hillmanator" videos on You Tube. Amazing! Like watching 1970's World of Sport from inside the car. Really gets your blood pressure up. Thoroughly enjoyed them!

Making visual treats every day to adorn your oily loved ones!

Many outside the IMP-community has observed this Video-clip. I have send the YouTube-address to many non-impers and they are surprised of the hot IMP

Re: HSCC Historic Touring Cars 2011
There's a good article about a Ford Anglia 105E in this month's Octane magazine that states that it 'can't run with the Lotus Cortinas but gives the Minis and Imps a run for their money'
Perhaps the journo responsible for the write-up should have watched youtube first

Wonder which Anglia that is? I cant think of many that can run with any but the slowest couple of imps.

Re: HSCC Historic Touring Cars 2011
The article mentioned both HSCC and CTRCC so it possibly runs in the latter. I don't have the mag here so can't refer to it now...

According to a very quick search, yes. £9200.
Wonder if the buyer will be bringing it out in the HRSR.

Doesn't a red/white Anglia appear in front an Imp with on-board camera in some races. That Anglia was a spirited object!ChrisBenoy wrote:Wonder which Anglia that is? I cant think of many that can run with any but the slowest couple of imps.

I don't suppose anyone jotted down the TV schedules for Brands? It was on the HSCC site but seems to have disappeared

I cant believe Grahams car only made £9200, an absolute give away in my opinion.
The market for IMP racers needs to improve, I was hoping to get some sort of return on my small investment.

I got a bit fed up with imps this year and looked to sell my fraser replica and the few people who were intrested wanted to steal it from me ! It would have made more monie by breaking it up for parts !!! So would rather keep her and mothball it than give her away !

Re: HSCC Historic Touring Cars 2011
you dont built race cars to make a profit its a well known fact if you want a car buy it instead of building it ,but we all go down the route of building our own cars just to say we done it.You have to remember that not as many people are into imps as mini's and so they dont fetch as much money and this even shows in road car prices

Wonder what happened to these interesting Imp engine project that could be seen on the Shrigley homepage. Don't see how these kind of modification can be allowed in historic?

Re: HSCC Historic Touring Cars 2011
A competitor /builder who wanted to do the same but was told he couldn't, so it followed things then got highlighted to the "scutes"...which is the natural course of events by all accounts....all fair and above board.
Anyway I was told the downdraft tracts didn't produce enough advantage for the efforts involved so I guess "Shringley Engineering" wasn't too bothered about the fuss in the end. All's well that ends well.

It's not like the transition from downdraft back to standard-type Imp cylinder head has slowed Andy down! I think he is using nitromethane... on his cornflakes!

Re: HSCC Historic Touring Cars 2011
Where ever people get there information from alot of the time on this forum is either hearsay or made up.
The downdraft head was never banned and it did exactly what it was supposed to do. It was experimental and lots of information was taked from the test and running that it did. The head is complete and sat on a spare race engine at present.
More than likely it was never taken into full production because unforunatley theres no market for it. Too costly , well not really in race engine terms , its just that the imp fraternity are what we can call not the biggest spenders on the tuning job.
The Shrigley 998cc engine is extremely quick and its still only in its early stages. There is nothing out there at present to match it on reliability and power. Thats my view by the way, but I suppose the results speak for themselves. Its all good and dandy putting engines together and telling people that they do this and that, without knowing exactly what the engine will do or wont do.
There are that many trick bits in the Shrigley engines that us skint members can only dream about. hahhahhhahahhaha.

Re: HSCC Historic Touring Cars 2011
Of course it's not always possible for anyone to know the full story, not even those directly involved, because lots of inquiries are made to officials and not everyone hears about every twist and turn. But this came from sources directly involved....it's just one persons honest perspective from someone involved. And just as are there are "many lies" and "many misunderstandings" there should be a place in the mind of wise men for "many truths".

Wise men eventually die and are replaced by new wise men. In this time and the present may be Mr Jones is becoming one of the reliable honest wise men
Unforutunatley in the translation of things said by others things get added and misunderstood and are changed about. Hence when i was reading the thread, Mr Jones was sat on my 2 piece with his lovely young lady having a glass of rose wine. He wasnt drinking as he was far too busy the next morning dynoing his new race engine for next year
Im sure what I said above is true.
But hey im sure if the person who wanted the downdraft head really wanted to acheive one then they would have done it.
