Also a Davrian "get together" on the Monday at this event.
I'll be camping all weekend there, so looking forward to this.
See you there, Colin, hows the arm?

I'll make the long journey over to Mallory on Monday (about 15 mins), as long as I get back from competing at Gurston on Saturday and Sunday okay.

There was a moment when Colin was doing a 'quick-change' to get in his race-suit.
I was walking over to introduce myself with camera at the ready.
Discretion overcame me and the moment passed, as he disappeared for his first practice session.

Re: Mallory park29th of this month special saloons
I also saw Colin showing off a pair of M&S finest boxers, not a good sight
There was some great cars at Mallory yesterday, lets hope
this championship takes off next year, there must be more
imps lurking in barns that could come out and play.
Rob "suger ray" Knox had a great day with everything still
holding together at the end. Tom in the black Imp snapped
a drive shaft at the hairpin towards the end of his race (Too much power!!)
Colin went well but had a few engine gremlins set in , hopefully not to
major. Not sure what happened to Mike Bratbury, he did have a bit of
a moment when a 600bhp thunder saloon went by . He said it almost blew his doors off
Hopfully Colin and Tom's problems can be sorted quickly as were off to Mondello in a couple
of weeks for some guinness, oh and a bit of racing
Cheers........Stuart

Re: Mallory park29th of this month special saloons
Thanks to Colin for bringing the part I was after.
Found the journey OK but last part of road network was a bit confusing.
Never been to Mallory before so found everything there of interest. Luckily got there early.
Heard about the confusion of which practice session he should have been in. Also hope the water pump on the camper did not play up too much on the return journey.
I had decided to let everyone get on with their preparations in peace during the morning.Plan was to use the lunchtime period to introduce myself to others.
Sadly that did not happen as I had a family problem which meant I left fairly sharply.
Ah well another time.
Took some pictures but not of cars on track. So some memories.

Re: Mallory park29th of this month special saloons
Wel what a day ,i was told i should be out on track in qualifing so jumped in and off i went only to get called to race control ,and be told that i was not ment to be out there and that i should be in the next session only thig was that the next session was the swinging 60s and when i said no im a special saloon then the fat controler realised that it was there fault as much as mine ,funny thing is he wanted me to say sorry to which i replied you control the pit lane lights so why did you not put the red light on to stop this sort of thing happening and he then said that an M.S.A official wanted to have a word ,i think he was hopeing i would get points on my licence but as it happened the official seemed to understand that it was there mess and just told me to forget it and have a good day
And it was a fantactic days racing even if i did pull off after 7 or so laps
Mike went well in the davrian and his times were quick
rob knox had the best day out of all the imps and was going well in race 1 only to get a missfire which turned out to be a damp dizz cap due to the wet track
Tom was flying in the black imp until a drive shaft let go
And me well i think i need a spaceframe if im to keep up with this lot as my car is around 100kg heavier and a lot higher or i get some others out with semi spaceframe cars so i have someone to race with oh yeh nearly forgot my engine damaged a bigend which is starnge as it was a fresh rebuild after imp national me thinks i might just stick it away for a few years and get on with some restoration projects

Don't put yourself down, Col, you were going well considering the weight disadvantage. Now that a modsport series looks to be happening I'm sure there will be more coming out of the woodwork

Re: Mallory park29th of this month special saloons
I too had a great day out.
My friend that came with me enjoyed it all too.
Mallory Park is a lovely little track - great for spectating and taking photos. But you can get so close to the cars that getting the car in centre of shot is really tricky! Well, it is with my fairly humble camera!
I shall sort my photos and post them in due course.
It's a pity that the Imps did not acquit themselves as well as we know they can do.
But it was great to see them anyway. And all the other lovely, characterful, indivual - nay unique Special Saloon and Modsports cars.
And in some of the races, there was some proper, close racing too!
Really great stuff!
It was really fabulous to catch up with some fellow Impistes too! (Sorry I missed you, Tim and Vicky.

Re: Mallory park29th of this month special saloons
IT was a fantastic day at Mallory with 4 spaceframed Imps on the grid. I think that must be some recent record. All the imp drivers enjoyed themselfs and got excellent results. Colin suffered again with some gremlins and had a pretty awfull trip just getting to the track but Myself Rob and I think its tom who drives the black Californian went well in our class. I think we were near quickest in the 1500 cc.
I think we have to remember that this meeting was a good test of whats to come, there were no medals for going out and breaking the cars. All 4 drivers had little knowledge of the track and put some fair times in . I think the 3 full spaceframes were all within quarter second of each other and colin just 2 seconds off due to weight .
We were in a race where the cars competing were somtimes in excess of 200 to 500hp and these cars are now fully set up and the job has moved on. We have cars that are 100 hp or so and are probably running near there maximum.
For me I thought it was brilliant, and its the first time on the circuit that i wanted to be competitive within reason. I enjoyed qualifying and then had a great race with Rob only for a 911 porsche to make a very late rash manouvre entering the sss leaving me nowwhere to go and spraying the car with its oil.
Hopefully there will be a series next year consisting of 4 double headers so looking forward to that, I have another stead in the garage for a light rebuild that I can also run, so not sure what to do with the imp at the minute.
Well done all and thanks to everyone who came down to support the cars.
Big thanks to JIm and his pal who came all the way from scotland to view my car and watch us race, he had owned it 30 years ago and it raced at ingleston . Got some great history and had a great chat.
Regards mike

That 911 was spewing oil fumes from one bank of cylinders for a couple of laps - I'm surprised he wasn't black flagged. Great memories from my early days at Brands Hatch came flooding back - wonderful

Chatting to the owner - briefly, coz he was busy - the 911 spat its turbocharger innards out. And a good deal of oil too.

Do me a deal? Employ me for 3 days and pay me for what I'm currently being paid for 5, then I'll have time to do everything!

Great weekend, if a little bit wet at times. All the special saloons looked great in paddock and on track, they really were the highlight of the show.
