Cadwell Park BBQ sunday

Post by Andy Hillman » Mon Apr 18, 2011 10:46 pm

I know most people will have family commitments this coming easter weekend but if you do find yourself able to make it to Cadwell park we have a full grid of historic saloons,7 of them will be imps plus i think we have a g15 in the roadsports race.there are 2 races one on sunday the other monday. Its my much better halfs (Gemma) birthday on monday so i thought i would take the BBQ along for sunday evening 5.30 ish,all imp people are welcome to use the BBQ even if we havent met. Hope to see all the hillman fans on saturday dont forget to pack your sausages with your beers and tent :D

Excellent news - you can't have too much cake! Looking forward to the BBQ and hoping for a quicker engine than we had at Donington.

It's a long way home for most from Cadwell. Guess we'll have to wait. You'd think in this day & age people could upload by mobile straight from the finish line :D

Thanks, Simon. Slightly spooky that there's a Jim Clark driving a Lotus Cortina...

Hi Ibbo, Simon had a few concerns with the car so sensibly pulled it from the race, i had part success but car went sick 2 laps from the end! Shaun was going well in his stunning new imp in traditional colours, plattsey drove impecably as usual cleaning up in both races with max points for class E,David Heale gave hin a good push but just didnt quite have the pace amazing considering its only his 5th time out in his purple imp. Aidrian's car sounded lovely and looked spectacular through the mountain section but was held off Platts and heale by a very wide Anglia! Ernie Frost put in a good consistant race although when i spoke to him after in the pits he was telling me the car had ''Gone off'' towards the end of the race. Thanks to all the imp fans who turned out to support i was very touched by all the kind comments. We will get there !
many thanks to John Hall who made video's :D which i am currently uploading onto youtube, just search ''Hillman imp Cadwell park'' enjoy

Hi all. Andy forgot to mention that he drove impeccably to not just put his imp on pole for the race, but also led the race, building up a near 10 second lead until his engine went sick. A MOST impressive performance, just a shame he couldn't entertain us all in the second race. Well done Andy. Mike

Hugely impressed by Andy's achievements at Cadwell - after putting his car on pole ahead of a full grid he then made a superb start and was able to keep the lead by the end of the back straight and to quickly open up a lead over the 2 litre Alfa twin cam of Jimmy Fuller and the 1300cc Mini of Roger Godfrey. A couple of the faster Cortinas had qualified slower than usual and Dan Cox was out for the first time in his newly purchased class B Cortina, around the 15 minute mark he managed to get past Jimmy into second but didn't look like catching Andy who was well ahead by this stage. But then there was a groan from the grandstands as Andy slowed - we thought that he might have a misfire but it seems like there might have been an escaped gremlim in the works.

I 'watched' the second race on the live timing screen back home. Very well done to Steve Platts who picked up 2 more class wins to go with his win from Donington and to David Heale who was pushing Steve. Adrian and Vince also finished well, but Shaun had a problem in race 2.

Just took the Hillman apart would seem the engine wants to be a twin cam as the cam has snaped just after the middle bearing ! this explains the going on to two cylinders.
thanks to mike and simon for kind words

Andy,

Didn’t you know that every historic race in the u.k has to start with a Mustang, Lotus Cortina or Ford Falcon on Pole?

Well done Andy, you must have driven your socks off.
