byb610b-benji alloy rad fitted

Post by stuartrf » Sun Feb 13, 2011 10:12 pm

hi guys
a few weeks before christmas i went up to stroud to have a look at a mk1 chammie with the intention to throw it back together as fast as i can so i can get my other car off the road so ic an restore it well thats the theory but when i went to look at the car that was pushed into a barn with tonnes of parts and other cars around it i realised the shell was in fantastic condition considering it is number 3792 off the line and i couldent bring my self to jsut throwing it back togetherso the car is being totally restored
Image
infact all the wending that i could see was it needed some work on the 2 front corners but i am exspecting more.
i have been told that the shell was going to be converted to have a bike engine fitted but fortunatly no cutting of the shell had taken place apart from the removal of the battery tray and rad brackets
Image
the plan is that the car will have a 998 sport motor fitted with banded wellers it will also be lowerd and have ajustable dampers and front disk brakes
the car also came with some goodies that include a rollcage poly bush kit a fibreglass bonnet and boot lid
Image
i am hoping to have benji back on the road for the national or at the latest www
thats al for now folks
im picking the car up next sat so i will update this when i get the car and give it a cheak over
cheers stu
ps if your wondering about the name benji it is named after jays dog from the inbetweeners :D :|

thats the plan
jsut had a chat with the guy who im buying the car from and i asked how much welding is needed and there is a long list
wheel arch repair
passenger door repair
and small repairs on the front 1/4's
and thats is :D not bad for a 64 car

Having met the seller, and seen both the breadth and depth of his knowledge and the quality of his work, I strongly suspect that that really is it. I suppose some of the more notorious Imp rot traps might be hiding something nasty, but they tend to be underbody stuff where the cosmetics aren't that important.

This looks factory to me if you mean the plate between the leg and the inner wing , the two square plates on the top of the leg is where a support bracket for the three way valve was once welded , early cars ( but not very early } has this as standard

I *think* I recognise the bonnet... Bob the Polish's old Imp Sport?

Those rubber mats (on the roof) look in good shape - don't let them get knack'd as they are really hard to find in good shape.

THIS STUFF (CLICKY) is allegedly good on rubber - like mats, etc. - and plastic. 8) Also good on door seals, window rubbers, etc.

Assuming that it's a General Election - which does seem likely - it would be 1983, which is the only year in which the general election fell on 9th June.

hi guys
i spent a few hours working on the car the rear suspention is off and all is good there is no rust at all i didnt even break and bolts getting it off
so later tonight i will get a drill and start stripping the under seal off
ive had a good think and i have decided that i want to change the colour from maroon to red i found a paint colour that i quite like and cleaned up an old dash at work and gave it a quick paint and here are the results

when the car is painted i will have a dimond white stripe going down the side as imho it looks a bit much one colour and needs some contrast
what do you guys think?
stu
ps not brilliant pics the paint is actually metalic
