you should be fine if theta re in (and the bolts) are in good nick - unlike autotest there is no transition from fwds to reverse etc etc...

if yours are kancked might be time to fit new ones

they are great fun so just do one!

CSMA at hatfield and Cotswold Motorclub at Finmere Airfield..

some imps in the first (go benoys and frank - no sign of any at the later..

FDMC solo on the 4th may - also no imps entered so far...

whats stopping you?

if you can't afford sprints and hillclimbs - do these, great value and great fun

Are there any entries left for FDMC still? I know there were last time I asked, but I still don't know if I'm actually going to be back in Essex that weekend

Hope I'm not blacklisted either.... got a call today, apparently my cheque from the last one bounced! Oops!

Hi guys, I am very interested in the whole post and joining in with one of my cars. My Stiletto is awaiting 930 and discs and my time to get it back together. Where is the next event? I would love to come and watch and hopefully join the club. Will make me pull finger out and get car done.
Any info greatfully received.

The MOT on the Singer is up two days before and it has a big hole in the floor as a result of using a trolley jack to change a wheel after a puncture on a trial. I wasn't expecting it to go through the floor  ... I am going to try to get it fixed in time, whether I'll also be able to get all the trialling suspension off as well remains to be seen - it will not be fun doing a solo with 10" of ground clearance to the sills.

I also seem to have something in my diary for that weekend in Yorkshire ...

Have you got the regs and entry form for this? Any idea if it's a BTRDA one? Looked on the Sevenoaks website but couldn't see anything.
Will email the events sec there or something if you haven't

Been invited through BUMC - might be there if I can find the time to change the donuts beforehand.

In fact, get your entry in as the last one we held in February filled before the closing date and we had to turn something like a dozen people away, either by sending back their entries or telling them not to submit them at all.

When I got home I honestly thought i'd come last (didnt bother looking at the board when I was there due to the aborted first run and poor driving in the second.) but seeing the results now i'm much happier, came 3rd from last =p

More to the point in my last run when I'd gotten used to the format and set my car up a little I was faster then 12 other cars on the last run including Mazda MX5s and Toyota MR2s so hopefully at the next one I can start a little better and finish somewhere up the field.

Quite like that picture as well, can see me turning that into an avatar. :D

yer shame about the throttle issues - some good times in there..

did you see the regs for the Bocardo Solo up at Silverstone - FDMC are an invited club so no need to join Oxford MC, plus one one at hatfield as well

Regulations for the 2nd August Bristol MC event at Weston-super-donkey airfield are here: http://www.bristolmc.org.uk/EventRegs/solo2regs.htm

We've played with the entries selection criteria a bit so members of invited clubs not doing the CMSGCC championship get a fair chance of getting an entry this time (it was a bit embarassing last time having to turn so many away).

I'm Clerk of the course. How did I get volunteered for that?

I've been trying to convince my car of this, it seems to be allergic to Montgomery lines. Hopefully it will cope a bit better at North Weald in a week and a halfs time (And I hear that the entry is still open so if your about...).

It is about time a few more impers joined me, a well sorted imp could be very competative in the FDMC class A. Its good fun and my car control skills have already improved as a result.

I'm surprised by the lack of Impers involved in this low cost entry into Motorsport. It's an ideal way to hone your driving skills in a safe and controlled environment . Skills learnt here will serve the aspiring motorsport enthusiast as they ascend the ladder.

Come on all you who say you want to get into motorsport, stop talking and get competing. You only need a standard car to take part.

As a self-confessed talker :( , I am keen to enter a few 'Solos myself. Life has been getting in the way somewhat and the car remains virtually untouched since last year. However, our house is really getting there now and I shall be taking most of next week off work to go over the Chamois and try to get it through an MOT. Once it's moving again, I can get the roof fixed and get out there and use it again. :) Then Autosolos become an option...

I'd say you'll have competition, Chris but have you seen my driving?! Or just the consequences?!

If you look on the SR's for the Bristol MC event in a fortnight, I'm clerk of the course! :P. The usual clerk is at Kames with the British sprint championship so I got lumbered. Last week he forgot he'd roped me into this and tried to get me to go to Scotland to run course control for the sprint  .

Still spaces available for those not contesting the CMSGCC championship, Farnborough are invited ;).

IM - do you have a car other than an Imp? Basically you need something with four wheels and an MOT, you do not need an Imp or anything fancy / competition prepared. Whenever I've entered a solo I have done so in my everyday road car.

On the very first autosolo ever I competed in a (as it was then) 17 year old Audi Coupe, which is an absolute barge with all the manouverability of a pregnant cow, especially the 4wd version that I had. Great on autosolo it wasn't, but it was a huge laugh. Last year someone in a completely standard, almost new 1800 Mundano set one of the quickest times.

It's a discipline where the car makes a limited amount of difference, which is why I never do very well

To be fair, in the last event I did there were people out in nissan almeras, ford escorts, a ford mondeo estate, a vauxhall astra and various little daiwoos and and kias that got supprisingly good times. It really doesn't seem to matter what you do it in, its just alot of fun throwing a car round a bunch of cones in a car park.

Its interesting looking at all the comments on autosolos.
As a child we spent most weekends at events like these and could also join in.

I believe they were called gymkanas (probably not the right spelling).

Some 25 years ago i recall jumping in and out of an Imp Sport collecting stones off the top of cones and racing back to the bucket at the end of the course. Then driving around the cones with a large magnetic type saucer on the bonnet with a tennis ball in. All the power in the world didn't win that one, and nor did a sloping bonnet. Top marks for the Imps.
When I get my project sorted I will be out there joining in.

Stuart.

Autosolo's are not really a modern Gymkana but a cross between an autotest but with no reversing and a tarmac stage or a mini sprint but very short and around bollards. Designed to encourage people to start in motor sport as no special car preparation or licences required

You didn't need a MSA permit for a gymkana as the winner wasn't soley decided on time but people used to bend the rules a bit but all good fun never the less

Just done the last FDMC event of the year, got through 12 clean runs getting gradually quicker as I went along which was exactly what I had planned to do. Done 6 solos this year without seeing anything else imp based which is a little bit disappointing considering how cheap and how fun it all is. I'm sure there are people out there with the cars to do well but considering we couldn't even get enough entries for the auto test at national I guess its no surprise.

Anyway, might as well sign off with a couple of pictures of the last event.

I am going to do autosolos some day - hopefully next season. My car is not up to scratch at the moment and would not have got through any scrutineering required. The driver's door does not shut properly and it's just not how I want it to be. I have an air compressor coming my way, though, so a respray and body resto is to start soon. :P

Then we'll see...

Shouldn't get through an MOT like that, never mind event scrutineering!

(to be honest it's also something unlikely to be checked at a solo - battery security, throttle linkage, legal tyres, no loose junk in the car and valid documents are about all the scrutineering you can normally expect)

I thoroughly enjoyed my first (and only) autosolo, unfortunately things didn't work for me this year so I didn't get the chance. Strongly recommend them to everyone though.
Cheers

I know! I was surprised it passed. Anyway, my point is that I want the car to be right before I compete in it. That's why I have not entered it for anything yet. I've hardly used it at all, to be honest.

But I shall...

I withdrew my entry to our March event as it was oversubscribed, and because I'd had too many continous weekends of motorsport and evening meetings in the preceeding week. The August one I ended up clerking. Had to exclude one of my club committee for failing scrutineering (expired MOT). Made the club magazine that did, since the person I excluded is the editor
