risk of rolling is very low - more of an issue for the taller front drive hatches

Abingdon Carnival AutoSolo
Ok, reckon quite a few impers could easily get to Abingdon..
there is an AutoSolo taking place as part of the Abingdon CARnival on the 9th June 2007...
get out there an compete - reckon imps could do really well.
Regs and Application forms here:
http://www.abingdoncarnival.com/html/entries.html
you need to be a member of one of the organising clubs - but FDMC membership is only £15

can't believe so few fancy doing such cheap motorsport - no point doing all this tuning work, suspension mods just so you can tootle on a sunday drive and do a bit of polishing

Doesn't seem to happen in North Yorkshire...
..plenty of rallies maybe, but a totally differen't level of preparation is needed for that..
Si
If I still lived in Winchester I'd be there at every event you entered.
And I know what would happen next.....I'd be forced to strip the Clan to nothing.... just to get close

Thanks for this Si....it pays to be connected...obviously I'm not.
There's plenty of events here afterall!
Tockwith airfield is definitely do-able (30th September)
And the Elvington Sprint in June is worth a viewing (obviously can't enter that).
And Hartlepool is possible - have to fit locking wheel nuts and remove the snap-on steering wheel when parked mind you....
Cheers

I know one person that's entered for Abingdon, but he uses a Mitisbushi Lancer (although last night he was talking about taking his Bongo Frendee
)
I'll be doing the Bristol MC event in August in the Boxster (the Davrian is banned from solos as it is not road legal*), unless I get roped into the organising team.
*requiring all vehicles to be road legal was not in the original vision for autosolo when we introduced it, we just ran the first one that way while we were finding our feet but it was thought that eventually anything could be used, up to and including single seaters. Didn't quite happen though

on the whole autosolo seems to be sdoing well, FDMC should have an extra one this year at Dunsfold aerodrome..
just a shame not to see more imps out there - especially as I think they could do well...
if I persuaded FDMC to list the Imp Club as an invited club for an event, would that help? seeing as the imp club is now MSA registered again
would would have to get at least 5-8cars (def!)

I'll have a look at what events are coming up. Pending some issues in my personal life, I hope to compete sooner rather than later. As you said, Si, that is what the car is built for!

there is a solo coming up on the 15th nr oxford - we going to see any imps there?

Bristol MC has a solo coming up on 12 Aug if anyone in the Bristol / Weston area fancies having a go - SRs here:
http://www.bristolmc.org.uk/EventRegs/S ... Aug_07.pdf
As usual only a club membership card from an invited club is required.
Edit - I wont be there, I've got a housefull of people coming to stay that weekend for the Balloon fiesta and dragging them all down to an airfield in Weston-super-donkey at 0830 would probably not be too popular.

wow just got pipped yesterday by a scooby doo for FTD on the Oxford Motor Club autosolo..
if I had not clipped a cone on one of my runs I would of had FTD! though I suppose the excursion through a wheat field did not help matters when the rain made a grippy bit, slippy!
great fun though - no imps present though.

well done Si, similiar rules as with some of the classic rallies, cones and line faults drop 10 sec's then very hard to claw back. i see you are fully up to speed with the motorsport ethos, if, but, maybe, i once had a navigator who was a sales manager who produced a spreadsheet based on the if, but, maybe, formula and when you entered a seasons results on it we won the championship every time!
I may enter one of the auto solo's one day but at the moment i have a championship to consider. I was once told by an ex british auto test champion "go clean, go quick" keep competing. I agree Si more people should compete with their imps they handle really well and ok without loads of expensive tuning parts we may not win outright but class wins are achievable, and you can set your own class in your head based on your cars age level of prep and CC, taking part is just as much fun as winning and the driver controls the potential level of damage, drive it like you stole it expect the clutch to go, calm clean driving will put you suprisingly close to some one who looks quick. Sam and Matt (thompson1248 and RFK demon) will tell you that they spectated on a rally and were very impressed with the MK 1&2 RS's sunbeam lotus's etc when they watched them but found out they were beaten by other smaller cars on the tests. regards mike

YER i HAD A LEAD OF 50SECS!Lotus-e-Clan wrote:Me thinks you'd have first place if you'd done them all in the Clan (clutch probs wasn't it?)
Peter
BUT THE mgb was fun and I still managed a class win in it. Just grateful to the owner fo letting me double drive it so I could complete the championship.
the cone clipping event was not a championship round though was fun - first event where I have clipped cones -

The Bristol University Motor Club is promoting an Autosolo run by the Bristol Motor Club*- and I will (hopefully) be taking part.
My biggest concerns are the donuts (as they are fairly tired) and the (do)nut behind the wheel.
The other problem is the oil leaks- don't think they would go down too well.

*BUMC and BMC are 2 different entities- BMC is the club that ran the first autotest that onomatopoeia is involved in.
