Sadly I wish it were that easy! However there are one or two minor flaws in the plan. Firstly my head of department and immediate boss is also my wife! secondly I teach year 12/13 and they are not always in school and my Chamois is somewhat distinctive and well known to them that I am bound to be spotted!

Well done on winning the clas last year Stuart, and setting some great times along the way, particularly at MIRA. New family kept me out last year but I might do a bit again this year, probably in the G15 as I've sold most of the best bits off my Imp now.

Pity we've lost class N, a few of us have competed in this class over the years, but never very many in the same year so hence it's gone! Shame we never met in competition - hopefully meet you at some point in the future!

For the more northern based impers, the HSA championship is coming to Harewood (between Harrogate & Leeds) this weekend. Unfortunately only the one Imp, but 2 Clans & 2 G15's as well. This is also a round of the British hillclimb Championship & Greame Wright Jnr is entered in his V10 Predator (or if its not ready, he might be in his Imp

).
Not sure what the weathers going to be like, but i'll be very surprised if it stayed dry all weekend

Graeme was at Doune with the Predator 2 weeks ago but Finlay Wight ( presumably his brother ? ) was driving the Imp ( very quickly ).

Mine was the only other Imp there but unfortunately not competing.

Hey Eric ill see you there, red g15 no 153. ive only done harewood once before and not very quick at that, the only chance of me going any quicker is if it doesnt rain for a start. weather forcast is not looking that bad at the mo but that will change i can bet.

tell you what i found usefull after i fist drove there is the how to drive it feature on the hsa web site. its a nice hill to drive and not much to hit compared to some other hills so you can go for it without as much fear of doing damage. i ought to be carefull saying things like that coz i know what ill do now

Harewood, what a superb Hillclimb

I've just had about my most enjoyable weekend hillclimbing, it was worth all the time you spend (and money) playing in the garage

.
A full weekend, with 4 practice runs on Saturday & 1 practice followed by 2 timed runs on the sunday up the longest hillclimb in England. Great hill with good run-off & well placed gravel traps after the run off for the faster cars. Stuart Cairney in his Imp was putting in impressive times in his beautifully prepared Imp & Andrew Russell was the quickest imp engined car up the hill with has well developed Ginetta G15. In the Hsa class, unfortunately Tim Beardsley broke the transaxle on the start line for his first timed run so never got to record a timed run. Micheal Tindale was enjoying himself in his standard 875 clan, proving you don't have to have all the flashy bits to enjoy hillclimbing. I had a meeting long tussle with a very well prepared Nissan 200sx. My 998cc slick shod Clan against his 300 bhp 2 litre turbo and i managed to beat him by 0.13 secs after we both lowered a Pb's by nearly 0.5 secs on our last runs.

Stuart Cairney 998 cc Imp 72.82
Andrew Russell 1120cc Ginetta G15 66.65
Micheal Tindale 875cc Clan 81.52
Eric Morrey 998c Clan 67.40

to put our times in perspective Fasted time of the day was 49.5 secs by Scott Moran in a 3500cc Gould GR61 single seater

Nice one Eric, glad you improved on your last run. i still had a very good weekend with five practice runs and 3 secs faster than my pb. i was not that pi%$ed off when it broke its just the frustration of changing the box this week when i thought i may be able to put my feet up. not got the car in bits yet but tonight looks like been a long one. i found a spare box so if that is the prob it can go straight in for shelsley next weekend. it was nice to meet everyone and see 5 imp powered cars there.

Tim - nice to see such a beautiful car being driven hard.

On your gearbox, it could just be the output spider sheared. You didn't loose any oil, & it towed back up the hill okay so i doubt its anything major. I would try and take the drive shafts off first and see if the output spiders are still attached to their splines, could be an easy fix

.

Hi Eric i had that idea, its sat at home in the air with the oil draining with no bits in it and if you turn the shafts there is no noise or grinding feeling. we shall see tonight

i hope it is something that easy, it will save me alot of work.

i pulled the spiders out and the star wheels fell into the bottom of the box, the cross pin is still there so i can only gues that the planet wheels have shatered.

spare box going in tonight. Stuart and i were talking about fitting a ford diff in an imp box this weekend just before it broke. Dam me and my big gob

Eric is being modest here, as Andy Russell is The Man when it comes to Imp powered hillclimb cars - his G15 has been in development for years and it's just about the quickest Imp powered car around, apart from single seaters of course (and it's quicker than some of those!). To get within a second of him is a significant achievement - well done Eric.

I'm at MIRA on saturday with Mark Ibbotson & Graham Cashmore in their Davrians along with the Vixen of Joe Tisdale (not met yet). Unfortunately not particually spectator friendly

, Its a working day there, only Competitors & Mechanics & once in you are there for the day

. Great, fast place to drive though

Have you got any events planned in the near future ??

The HSA round at Prescott this coming Sunday 22/7 has been postponed until September due to the weather (exact date to be advised)

Hello all you lucky motorsport fiends out there in Hillclimb and Sprint country. Seems that this year I shall be hard pressed to even get in the old jalopy to give it a razz around the tracks

. Has a lot to do with Cashola

This year seems to be one of those 'if it can go wrong and needs lots of dosh to fix it types' So gripe over , how's it all going apart from the loss of Class N then , is everyone giving the old tin tops the boot and taking on the plastic fantastics ( Clans , Davrians , Ginettas etc) or are you all going off into pastures new. Let the old bloke know , I'm not dead yet

Loton Park 29th September
A few of us imp powered boys were out playing at Loton Park nr Shrewsbury on saturday & all had a pretty good day. There were no imp specific classes this weekend so we we all in various classes. Mark Ibbotson in his MK5 Davrian won the Modified Production Roadgoing class with Graham Cashmore in his Mk6 Davrian coming second. Stuart Cairney in his lovely blue 998cc Hillman Imp was driving superbly & was pushing Mark for times in practice. Unfortunately for Stuart he was running in the classic car class which is on a handicap basis, and by posting a very quick time in second practice was given a hard to beat handicap time.
I was running in the Modprod upto 1400cc class against a fuel injected 1330cc Mini, with my 998cc Clan, which i managed to beat by 0.3 secs and win the class. I wasn't particulary happy with my times, should of gone faster

but was happy to take the win

.
