Sounds great but I bet it'll be miles from where I live, so petrol and accommodation costs will be the issue for me...

I really do want to get out and about in my Imp this year, though, so am on the lookout for events like this nearer to me. :)

Cheers Mike for the Shoes got me right out of a jam. They are good, think ill be investing in some. Ill send you that other rotor arm back. Will be getting some suspension hopefully soon for the Lake District as long as i have enough funds, you can here it bottom out in the quarry alot :D .

Was not all plain sailing on the Berwick snapped the speedo cable after the first regularity on the saturday so had to guess by the rev counter as the trip also runs off the speedo, and then developed an oil leak from the cooler on the second to last test on the sunday but managed to hold out for the rest of the day luckily. All in all one of the best weekends rallying with such a sociable atmoshpere.
Be nice to see you out again Mike.

well done Ben another fantastic drive in the Lakes time to build a trophy cabinet! A very hot days motorsport with a good entry and some fantastic tests, to hear your car screaming through Lowther park has given me a boost to complete the imp and get it back out on these great events.

dates for the following year (2010) winter and summer challenges out soon, these events range from night rallies which you will require a licence to tours running along side the rally event so pick an event contact the organisers and see if you can compete at any level in any car.

Berwick & District Motor Club Ltd
Berwick Classic Historic Rally
Saturday 1st / Sunday 2nd May 2010

Berwick & DMC would like to announce the format of their popular classic rally which will take place on the weekend of Saturday 1st / Sunday 2nd May 2010.

Starting from 17.00 hrs at The Barn at Beal on Saturday entrants in the Sporting Trial will complete three challenging special tests before tackling a sixty mile regularity on the quiet country roads of North Northumberland. The regularity will include a number of smooth, unsurfaced tracks and the occasional ford to keep crews on their toes and will lead to the final test near Berwick-upon-Tweed just after 20.00 hrs.

Sunday morning will see crews starting from 09.30 hrs in Berwick and heading north to tackle a dozen classic tests in Berwickshire and East Lothian. The event will finish at Whitekirk Golf and Country Club where competitors will enjoy a traditional carvery meal before the awards presentation at 19.00 hrs.

The event will have classes for all historic vehicles and a separate event will run alongside the main event for members of Berwick and District Motor Club with more modern classics.

Pushing on with the imp WILL be finished before end of the month so the NE25 could be its first event for 20 years :D :D

Did this event 2 years ago daytime regularities and tests and then a night navigational rally, excellent event.

illuminations rally

Post by moose » Sat Sep 11, 2010 10:50 am

Introduction
Welcome to the 2010 Illuminations Rally. We hope to make this years rally an enjoyable, testing night’s
motorsport. We will be using some classic Cumbrian roads, some fantastic lanes in Lancashire with very simple
pre-plot navigation. The navigational format used is based on the London Rally marked map, you will be given a
set of grid references to plot with your final instructions. The route is plotted by “joining the dots.” This way you
do not need a romer on the night. There will be a run out when you will have plenty of time to get the route on
the map before starting the first regularity section.
We are fortunate that Lune Valley Motors have continued their sponsorship and we have a new sponsor this year
in David Ian Skoda, who are also providing scrutineering facilities.
This year in an attempt to give something back to the area in which we compete we are supporting St. Johns
Hospice and Slynedales Cancer Care. One in three of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetimes; St. Johns
Hospice and Cancer Care provide fantastic assistance to both those people suffering from cancer and to their
families. These organisations are funded by donations from the public and from businesses, every penny helps
them to help those affected by cancer. We will be holding a raffle at the start, please support us by purchasing
tickets.
We look forward to seeing you in October

Lumies navigation is pre-plot before rally and then London maps navigation where you join the dots of what you have already plotted so anyone, even a complete novice will get round.

If not competing please MARSHAL

got back at lunch time after a great weekend on the Cambrian rally, servicing for Henry and Nigel Webster in the Chamois no drama and the car has now finished 4 events in a row, a testament to Nigels build quality. We have a list of development ideas that were discussed during the weekend so all is positive to keep the times falling next season.

Henry and I had a very successful weekend at the Cambrian Rally on 8th October. Based in Llandudno, there were 6 stages through the Penmachno, Clogaenog and Alwen forests followed by two passes through the stunning 2.94 mile Great Orme tarmac coast road which follows the headland facing the Irish Sea. Being on a cliff face seemed less of an issue to me than the 3” high kerbs which meant the punishment for untidiness would have been severe (3 wheeled Chamois at the very least!).

Penmachno is said to have spectacular views but I can’t say I noticed!; Clocaenog (like the Great Orme a famous ‘Lombard RAC’ stage) was very fast with lots of technical bits and hairpins that had to be got right!

This is our third rally with the Chamois which was completed earlier this year, after an 8 month build. We were fortunate enough to have ‘Imp royalty’ as our service crew (Mike Dent - ‘Moose’ and Sam Thompson) who didn’t have to ‘put a spanner on’ the car all weekend. We did however end up the event with significant negative camber on the OSF wheel following a severe bump left by a combination of Escorts and WRC’s digging ruts. Mike noticed it early in the event but after checking it was nothing serious kept it from the crew so we wouldn’t back off!

Out of about 120 starters we came 80th beating many serious rally cars with 3 times our power. We came 7th in the historic class (pre 68) swapping times with the Austin Healey 3000 of Graham Goodall (who has won the HRCR Historic Stage Rally Challenge) but Graham used his superior power to good effect on the Great Orme and ended up 40 seconds up on us over the whole event. We also began to get close to, and on some stages, take time out of some of the Minis (all 1300’s) which will not please them much!

We’ve learned a lot about how to drive a competition Imp (I last drove a road going Imp in 1966!) but even more about what we have done right and wrong about building a stage rally car. There is a list of developments that we plan to do over the winter to improve the car. We hope to join Geoff Taylor in the British Historic Rally Championship next year and we might even coax ‘Moose’ to do the odd forest event too with his newly rebuilt rally Imp. I know of another two Imps that will do selected events also but we have a long way to go to have as many cars out as the circuit racers. However if anyone is interested please contact me on nigel@anrw.co.uk or on this forum and I’ll happily share what little I know. We do need more Imps out in the forests!

Nigel and Henry's chamois is now my official test car  will suggest lots of things to try to save me some money

It was a great weekend and after 4 rallies Nigel is now getting a feel for the car as you can see in the times some were nearly as quick as the front runners in much more powerful cars and some were a bit slower showing to me that the car and driver have the potential to run consistant top times, the car has proved itself bomb proof a credit to the prep. with the information gathered over the weekend some development off season can take place, mindfull of not changing too much too quick or else it will be like a completly different car but staged changes and a few tweaks will give a sound base from which to develop, further increasing Nigels confidance that the car will do what he wants consistantly so he can then start to push the car.

Just to reiterate what Nigel has said, we need more Imps out on the Stages. As a Category 1 car a well prepared and driven Imp has an outside chance of a category win. It was not unknown back in the day for Imps to win an event outright, my first stage event back in 1974 was won by an Imp. Bear in mind the opposition would not include Escorts as it did then. The main historic championship may be a bit of a tall order but, assuming it runs, the under supported Historic Rally Challenge (the Cambrian was a round) looks a good possibility for an Imp. Keep thinking I would love to give it a go myself but I'm afraid finance and anno domini are against me...

Anyway well done Geoff and Nigel, lets hope we see more contenders out next season.

Great stuff Nigel, the camera makes an excellent Rev Counter "tell tale"! When I did the Cambrian, blimey nearly 30 years ago, in a Lada the Orme was great, we actually caught a Saab. Penmachno was a nightmare, just getting dark, freezing hard and the feeling that if you went off you wouldn't stop till you reached Australia!

had a cracking weekend at the longmoor loco stages working for Nigel and Henry met up with a friend of mine and made a new friend after finaly putting a e-bay/forum name to a face when i had a pint with Robin Human. the services were continuous throughtout the day with no major issues but i was busy trying to balance the car on suspension, steering and brakes for Nigel. The only problem was a small component failure on the gear linkage which allowed the coupling to come adrift from the shaft. inbetween services i tried to see the car in the limited sections of the stage that you were allowed to get to and chat to many imp club members that were there, sorry to all of you as i felt that i abandoned you mid conversation on every occasion such was the timing of the service intervals. Another rally finished and another list of tweaks for Nigel and Henry to try on the car for the next event. Looking good this season for getting more imps out into the forests, must get on with mine!
