Test of race car

Post by moose »

Yesterday we handed back Simon Knights imp with a test at wigan three sisters. A significant amount of work has been carried out and i am pleased to say the car ran without fault. Engine work done by Andy Jones of Shrigley, Dave weedon box, Car stripped to a bare shell re plumbed cooling, re-wired and re-assembled by Century Autosport, if anyone is interested i could do a write up on the whole project? The next phase is for Simon to enjoy using the car at various track days and race meetings and possibly develop the car more that is up to Simon and i think will depend on £ per fun as the car is now. I will add some pictures of the before during after and some links to the test videos when i have time to get them from my phone to here somehow. (any instructions of how to get pics and vids from i phone SE to here gratefully received, don't send this thread off topic though please).

Mike,
Sounds like a sorted Imp and I for one would be very interested in a build thread of what has been done to it through Century Motorsport.
We need more build threads on this forum :D

Looking forward to anything you post about it.

Cheers
Col.

Hi Mike

Second what Col says, a write up would be very good.

Also do you know what series Simon is going to race the car in or where the track days are going to be?

Track day tomorrow at Goodwood. I think he is doing CSCC but not sure it is difficult to remember what all the drivers are up too.

Hello Mike,

Cheers for that info, see what the weathers like tomorrow as Goodwood's just up the road(motorsport distance wise) and some CSCC including Classic K are at Thruxton next week while Swinging 60's are at Brands that day. Wouldn't have thought his car is Classic K regs though.

Not sure Steve, i think at first it was going to be HSCC i know what ever Simon has entered required steel bonnet and boot re-fitting to the car if that helps narrow it down. I cannot keep up with who is doing what! Get along to goodwood and say hello i am sure Simon will let you know what events he is going to do.

cheers mike

Will see what i can do Grahame but time is the big issue. 3 completed cars left the workshop on Thursday 2 collected by customers and Simons delivered by myself and Haggis to 3 sisters, after the test we set off back and collected our carburettor expert to look at the Fangio cheverolet and when we got back the next 4 cars were parked up on the drive outside workshop we finished work that evening at 20.45 we started at 07.00.

currently at workshop

rally imp bare shell build to start
fangio chevy full re-prep for alpine rally
Subaru S11 WRC (ready to go)
Subaru GRP N plus car (just been re-prepared)
Bowler wild cat full strip down and re-prep in progress
Aston martin (road car for a service)
Golf GTi cabriolet for wiring as it has Audi TT 4X4 running gear installed
Rally imp new, belts, dampers, fire ext system
Lister Jag D type carb set up

If you wanted to book a car in for more than a days work the diary is full till December.

Good stuff Moose! Quite the variety if nothing else.

Regs over there are quite different - historic touring cars here have to run all steel, glass and interior trim other than flooring.
Imping (on & off) for 20+ years
