At the Rufforth Autojumble I bought a battery from BOM Batteries
I had a problem with the battery and took it back the next month, expecting the usual fly by night routine...........
It wasn't like that the Boss checked the battery, agreed there was a fault.
Unfortunately, he didn't have a replacement.
So we arranged for me to pick up a replacement a few days later from their base at Haxby near Doncaster when I was on route back from Lincoln.
Comes highly recommended and he has a few of the 015 type batteries in stock.

The battery is an old Fiesta design which is the same size as an Imp, but more readily available, and I think a heavier duty rating.
However, it does have round terminals instead of flat, but I converted to this type years ago.
The battery is Type 015, then CCA(SAE) 30 followed by AH 40.
Prices seem pretty good to me (£25)

I had to replace the battery from my singer here in spain. Had no problem in finding an exact replacement (round terminals). Apparently it is the same battery as the small Suzuki jeep has.

Imp battery was an 037 or 038 depending on type of terminal. 015 was always listed in battery catalogue for the Imp as the Heavy duty version of the round terminal type. Think 037/038 type was also listed for Mini and Avenger and IIRC were on both Avenger's I owned in 90's

It's the 015 type I have on both my Stiletto and Caledonian and have had for several years

I'm not sure if they do Gel Batteries, but the phone number is below, so give them a ring and check.
Would you like to tell us what the "magic number" is for the IMP equivalent Gel battery.
And an indication of the price.
Also can you explain if they are better, longer lasting etc ...............

Colin, I'd love to tell you that gel batteries are getting better... are the be all and end all... but I've only ever owned two: the one that was in my Chamois when I got it back from Barry Palmer and the one that I managed to ruin after the first one stopped holding charge! It was my own fault. :( The first battery was tiny: something like a 7.5 Ah capacity! Nevertheless, it worked okay for a spell. It was from one of those 'start and charge' booster packs.

A great many people seem to get along just tickety boo with gel batteries, even in road cars, so I suspect that they work as well as any other type. Note that I have not done research on this, so other people may know different. :!:

Anyway, I may give your guys a ring when the time comes. Thanks! :mrgreen: When my car's back on the road, which is some way off, I shall keep the forum updated with how she drives, including any problems with the car, of course. :wink:

I've been using a gel battery in my clan for some time now. Its a 25 a/h ODYSSEY EXTREME RACING 25 BATTERY (PC680) which started life in one of my dads sprint cars, then was used in both race cars for a while and has been in the clan for at least 3 years now. The battery itself must be close to 10 years old by now (Will have to look at the sticker and see) and still works perfectly despite at one point being shorted out by a badly designed battery clamp.

This is on a car used all year round and it never fails to turn the engine over effectively even in the middle of winter. Added advantage of the fact it only weighs about 6kg as well. All in i'd say its one of the best things i've ever done to the clan and I will have no hesitation getting one for my imp sport when that goes on the road. Obviously costs a lot more than a standard battery but it seems to be lasing very well and i'd probably have had to replace a normal battery several times in the same time this has lasted.

There are some on the market now for around the £50 mark so they might be worth a try, not sure if the quality will be as high however.

I've had one (PC680) fitted into the passenger side rear seat bin for a couple of years now, and can confirm Chris's post above as being true and accurate in my case too. It's safer, lighter, reliable and gives me more room in the engine bay too :D

you can now get Li-ion batterys that are about the size of a dynamo control box that will produce the same output as the original lead-acid battery ,
a bit pricy at the moment but that will come down .
