Forum Ground Rules

Ground Rules

The Imp Club Ltd provides a forum for use by members and non members of the Imp Club. It is here to discuss matters relating to the Imp Club and the Imp range of cars. This includes vehicles using Imp mechanicals. There are a few ground rules for participation in the forum and these must be read together with the terms and conditions which all forum users must adhere to. Failure to follow these terms and conditions and follow the forum etiquette may lead to removal of posting privileges or a ban. Please enjoy your use of the forum.

RESPECT OTHER USERS

Privacy Issues

This forum is open to the general public which means that anyone can read your messages - your partner, your boss, your mother-in-law. Forum messages are like open postcards so, in general, don't post anything to a forum that you wouldn't be happy with any of the above people reading. Also, be very wary of posting any personal information that you wouldn't be comfortable seeing on a 10ft high billboard in a busy shopping area. Be liberal in what you read but conservative in what you post.

Be civil.

No personal attacks. Do not feel compelled to defend your honour in public. Sometimes people can write something that you may find offensive. Before launching into a public condemnation though, please consider that the person may not have intended to cause offence. It is very easy to misinterpret a post on forums, especially when dealing with multinational citizens. There is absolutely no need to resort to insults. Respect others' views even if you disagree with them. Remember many items are viewed differently by different generations.

Stay on topic.

Read the title of the topic, please remain faithful to the topic, and do not hijack the thread. This is annoying to the topic poster and to other readers and unnecessarily extends the length of the thread.

Be kind to newcomers.

Newcomers are encouraged to use the search facility before asking questions. However, it is not always obvious to a newcomer what to type into the search in the first place! Please be patient with newcomers and where possible, try to direct them to information that is relevant to their query. Remember that today’s newcomer could be an expert of the future.

Let sleeping dogs lie.

It's tempting to revisit controversial decisions you disagree with, but it's rarely productive to do so, since it almost always results in the same heated, lengthy, and time/energy draining discussions leading to the same conclusion that was reached in the last round.

Therefore, for issues already raised, discussed, and decided upon, reopen the discussion only if you have significant new information that would reasonably prompt reconsideration of the original decision.

No cross posting.

It is almost never appropriate to send the same message to different threads. Other users may not follow both threads.

Ignore spammers.

Spam is blight upon the face of the net. Nobody likes it. However, it is hard to avoid. Despite our best efforts, you will occasionally see spam on the Forum the administrators and moderators will attempt to remove spam as soon as is practical. If you see Spam on the forum, please bring it to the attention of a moderator Please do not answer to it.

No large attachments.

Do not send large photo files included in your posts. Many people read these messages through slow network connections; try to be respectful of them. If you have a large file that you would like to distribute, put it on and announce the URL instead of attaching it. There is a limit of 480 x 360 for pictures or images within a thread.

Trim your follow-ups.

Do not quote the entire content of the message to which you are replying. Include only as much as is necessary for context. Remember that if someone wants to read the original message, they can; it is easily accessible. A good rule of thumb is, don't include more quoted text than new text.

There is always a need for some trimming - either a salutation, a signature, some blank lines or whatever. If you are doing no trimming whatsoever of the quoted text, then you aren't trimming enough. .

Identify your subject matter.

Not everyone has the time to read all forum postings. To ensure that your message reaches the right people identify your subject matter clearly in the subject line. Subjects like a question or ' look at this its cool ' are not very helpful.

No test messages.

Please do not send test messages to the forum

No discussion of personal issues with traders

All posts regarding cars or items for sale, continue to be closely monitored and any offensive, derogatory or otherwise contentious postings will be deleted and the reason for doing so will be advised to the poster by PM. The forum is not the best way to deal with issues. Direct contact with the user in question is advised.

For Sale and Wanted Threads

Please follow the rules placed as a sticky at the head of the forum section.

1.Forum users are welcome to advertise their Imp, Clan or Davrian or other
Imp related items, e.g. engines, parts, articles, books, etc. but trying to
sell your old food processor, computer or other non Imp related items is
not!

2.Trade adverts will only be allowed if the trader in question pays for advertising in impressions. Otherwise their ads will be removed and continued abuse of this rule will lead
to deletion of the user account from the Forum. Traders who advertise via Impressions may also reply publicly to posts requesting parts.

3.We know the line between Trader/Private is sometimes a little blurred,
but Forum Moderators have final say in any disputes.

4.All posts will be automatically deleted after 15 days, If you have a
question about the item offered please contact the seller direct via PM or
email or phone if contact details as offered by the advertiser.

5.Advertisers should also consider advertising in Impressions, which is
free, as this will reach a much wider audience, but should acknowledge that
this method will usually take a little longer.

6. If you are posting about an item(s) you are selling via Ebay, please
start you advert off with:
"Selling this on Ebay - then ad item(s) here"
So it would look like...
"Selling this on Ebay - 930 Engine"

If you have listed an item on EBAY or other auction site please indicate that you have done so and give the listing details or link.

More rules or changes may be made in the future
