LNK - The Slot Car - Finished

Post by bazzateer » Sun Apr 27, 2008 9:21 pm

Thought I'd make a start on the LNK slot car build. As there is going to be a Scalextric track at this year's National, and possibly a prize for Imp slot cars I'm going to build a replica of LNK.

Early days and so far I have got as far as fitting the twin headlamp grille and filling/sanding the joins between the two.

Before:

After:

Having to make do with minimal tools etc until I can find my old modelling gear (not used since about 1993-4).

Looking good Baz, I'm making my vanguards into a replica of mine, just needs painting now. Nice work with the panel.

The build stalled for a while and then suddenly I had to get it finished before the National. Here's a few pics of the finished article. It's first run was at the National where it proved to be pretty poor - no grip, needs different tyres. Still, I've got a year to get it performing before the next time in Reading.

Oh yes, and I'm not boasting (much! ) but I did manage to beat a certain Mr S Benoy to a place in the final!

Scalextrix at Reading next year???
No one's offered to run it for me yet as it's (nearly) in your neck of the woods are you offering Baz?

Cheers

Can't commit to anything yet but Ron mentioned something about possibly doing it as a regular thing.

Ron & Jez (my brother) are planning a new and improved layout for next years national. I know that they have a few changes and different ideas floating around!

Regards
Ed

P.S. Graham, I will send you a PM.

Looks fantastic Baz!

Yeah, I've got the same grip problem with mine. As an interim measure I've done something I thought I'd never do and stuck a magnet under it. I think I need to find an alternative chassis longer term. Yet strangely my Stiletto, which is identical underneath, doesn't suffer the same problem. I'm itching to get my hands on one of the new revised models with the modern chassis.

There are two 1/32 scale (Scalextric size) kits available. One from Pendle Slot Racing and one from George Turner Models.

I think mine (LNK is the car, not the model maker) was bought from Traffic Models in Berkshire.
