3D Imp

Post by imp.sport » Thu Feb 02, 2012 12:38 pm

I remember asking a while ago about the 3D Imp design I heard about when Sports car Gt game had them in.

I came across this.

But it never got finished.
Anyway here is the forum link with an appeal for someone to finish it off if they have the skill, patience and time.

Never had a go with 3D graphics before so I don't fit the skill part

the sports car gt imp was a bit squarer, I got a copy years ago and made full frazer/hartwell/bevan and the boy racer model skins, a wide arch plus some others to have nearly a full imp class. I've lost everything since and most of the tools seem to be gone from the net not that i can remember how to remake them. There was also a stilleto spaceframe model with it in mason? Colours, I think it might have been brian gomms I got them from. There was a couple that appeared in the gallery a few years ago.

Came across this today.

Image
Particularly like that it has what looks like cosmic wheels on as well
Its from http://www.facebook.com/digitalapexmodding dated on the 26th of June last year.

Sad to say there is a pattern emerging here of unfinished projects. Bit frustrating really.
Maybe I am just pining not driving the Imp due to the weather dragging me down.
Though if more of us put a comment on there they may get it done. You never know..

Big thanks to those who did this. It did get a noticeable reply from them.
I was expecting a bigger quota of Imp fans to say something TBH.
Sad to say counting the comments on facebook from people on one hand with a digit to spare is probably not going to move this project to the "must finish this" anytime soon.

Is it possible to turn these into files for 3D printing? Although I'm a conventional modelmaker with chisels and files and, God forbid, a Lathe, it would seem a waste not to make some nice slot car bodies from these "models".
There would be a market, I assure you. OK, George Turner has done an Imp, but all versions would be good.

I know someone who would take on a 3D printed model and turn it into a slot racing resin shell.

I emailed Digital apex to see if any help could be offered to get it finished.
Other than Its not a high priority.
This is what they said.
Well we need to do the texture mapping, the 3D is all done. And then put it inside rFactor.
If you know someone who knows how to do UVW unwrap... :)
Thanks, Alex V.
Anybody out there with this type of skill ?

I'm not sure of what exactly would need to be done with the wrapping. But i do have some experience on 3DSMAX, i'm not saying i could do it but i am happy to have a play around with it, if it's possible to get the model.

They wanted to know what format for the 3D file. I told them obj.

The photo below is what they say the model is based around. Is it known in the club?

Don't know how close anybody can get to this but anything that can be achieved should help give it a push up their work in progress ladder. :?

It's a starting point! I'll have a play around with it.
Once the surfaces are created for teh artwork then anything can go on them, so if we get this right, anything can be done!
