Silicone Engine Bay Hoses

Post by rootes » Fri Jul 21, 2006 12:55 pm

Not a actuall club spares thing (at the moment)

Had a chat to Racetech yesterday whilst collecting some bits -

they would be interested in making up silicone engine bay hoses (ie head to rad, rad to pump and pump to block) in either the usual blue beloved of racers and boy racers or a matt black finish more suited to older cars..

The costs should be reasonable IF we supply them with the tooling around which to wrap the parts - I can sort this out bit out and just need to price it up + get there required tooling spec.

Would there be much call for such items - they last well and are easier to get off than old rubber jobs..

worth looking at?

Sounds good to me Si, I'd be interested, esp' the black ones. Any idea what sort of cost? Just a 'ballpark' figure would do.

I should have a cost after the national..

not sure about the engine block to pump one but the others say (rough!) £6-8 each?

will give a proper quote when the tooling costs have been worked out.

that is based on the current price for universal 90deg bend with the rad to pump is hose is...

would nto liek to commit until a get a firm price - tooling could be done for costs/graft in the garage. so then it will be just the cost to produce them - sure doing the imps was will involve same amout of work as many of the universal hoses..

i've seen these being made (discovery channel is a wonderful thing) and i dont think that even the block to pump pipe would pose many problems, after all these guys i believe offer a custom hose service.

no they have asked that the tool is made in two parts so that it can be remove more easily.

Just need to get a full set of new decent hoses to use as the basis of the tools

Hi Si....

Some feared you had vanished completely.....

How about setting up a megasquirt style group buy...

Get a ball park quote, everyone interested stumps up say estimate+15% incase of overbudget, once critical mass is reache !, parts get ordered made and shipped direct from supplier, do race tech have paypal ?

what are we talking 7-8 each ,, one two erumm let me see top hose bottom pump to block, say £40 each set including shipping and how many for a batch ??
do they do silicone in heater hose size ?? expensive for the long run needed but almost fit and forget.

Anythings better than the current stuff... my last waterpump hose lasted 18months. Utter pants...

Silcone hose *is* available off the roll but you may need to sit down before the quote to replace your heater hoses, sadly.

Si,

Great idea, it does not matter what color they are. I have a cobbled together set of silicon hoses already, but I will still buy a set (or 2) of these when they get made....

Did you pick-up anything nice from Racetech? Silly question I know.

actually I looked back at my receipt and the 35mm bore 90 bend was £9 plus vat so would hav thought the imp top hose and rad to pump hose would be about this with the pump to block hose being a bit more..

I am planning to get a set of imp rubber hoses at IMP 06 to use for tool making and quotes.

Make sure you get some ones that fit in the first place. I had a rad bottom hose that was about 3/4 inch to short. great.

I'm interested in black ones - I suspect I'm going to find a lot of my hoses need to be replaced sooner or later, and if the silicone ones last longer and are easier to fiddle with I'm all for it.

I should have really learnt my lesson when I bought my first Imp in 1967!
You currently have an Imp? A successor to the one mentioned above? I'd say you DID learn your lesson :)

pump-block in blue please, and maybe a head-rad hose too.
They are the only non-silicone ones left on my g15

has anyone got a photo of a head to rad hose? not sure if mine is an Imp one or not.

hmm, most of my hoses are not imp ones now, although a pink pump to block hose would rule! (seriously!!! I would pay, i paid £45 for 2 samco hoses!)

Im on my 4th one in 3 years on the car, even the new rubber ones are pants!

Not too bad then, Si. I assume we would only be looking at a set of 4 or 5 hoses. Top rad to head, pump to block, bottom rad to pump and bypass/3 way connection hoses. maybe additional for heated inlet mani ?
