Stiletto rear number plate lamps or covers

Post by clewits »

Hi Impers,

I need a couple of rear Stiletto numberplate lamps or their chrome covers only.
(Mine have been accident damaged twice now so beyond repair)
I've seen similar caps/lamps on other Brit cars but can't remember which one, MG ?

Thanks in advance

Bert

Bert

These were fitted on other cars inc some MG's and are also known as Lucas 534's. I told club of some for sale on EBay earlier this year and I think they were newly made stock > so do a search on EBay and you may well find two new ones at Buy it Now prices

If Ebay isn't a successful route, try Malcolm Anderson (Imporium on here).

Hi Bert,

On chrome bumper MGBs - some of them at any rate - they were fitted to the overriders.

They were also used on the very last batch of Series V Sunbeam Alpines, although I guess there wouldn't be many scrap examples of those around.

Very surprised if were on Series 5 Minx > certainly weren't on Series 5 or Series 6 examples I ran > number plate lamps were under a cover that carried Hillman badge and has a clip [that really does rust] that held on glass. Minx Lamp unit is very similar if not totally same as ones under back bumper on Avengers I've also run

Some of the above information is wrong of course...

BUT I will be bringing one pair of the L534 Sport lamps up to Perth. For anyone not attending (?) I can get more. They are £15.00 each plus PnP.

There are two types of Lucas number plate lights. 2 or 4 screws.
The Stiletto has 4 screws. The base is fitted to the bumper with two offset screws and the hood & glass to the base with two inline screws.
Most others have 2 screws thru the cover and base to the bumper.
Most aftermarket are the latter however the hood and glass are the same.

Some MG ones are Lucas L534's ** and marked as such but some latterly available MG ones are I understand a different design with a totally different bulbholder

** I have personal experience having bought and used one of these 534's after unbolting the surplus chrome wedge base piece [only needed when using on MG]

All the currently available/remade MG lamp units have a different fixing to the Imp Sport ones - they are similar and you could modify the bumper if you *really* wanted to but they aren't the same.

I did *A LOT* of research into this when I rebuilt Pele (and phoned pretty much every big MG parts supplier) - and that's why I'm confident in this.

Little known thing - Range Rover S1 had the same units, but were black. Those are rare as rocking horse doo-dah...
