I recently featured an article in Impressions explaining the plan that we have for re-manufacture of critical and desirable Imp spares. We are going ahead with items listed there.

Please could members add here detailed information about other parts that they need.

Please could you add information if you are capable of manufacturing or sourcing any of these parts...

In my opinion since money is a finite resource the list needs to be prioritised with a critical list - items without which would result in an Imp being off the road such as a clutch, brakes, steering with an eye on volumes.

My list;
Pukka diaphragrm clutch covers,
New rear hatch frames OR new looky-likey hatches, with heating elements. (i.e. cosmetically appearing to be an original, but not the original design or materials, something better),
Pretty much everything mission critical and unique to the Imp (Steering rack, water pump, etc).

Fiberclass did tell me a couple of years ago he has everything more of less mould wise to create a complete IMP in fibreglass, now whether anyone would prefer one in that material, maybe, after all the Clan is made that way? and it would be classed as a special and of course require SVA testing or something along those lines? and of course there might be a bit of a wait for your order to come through, I cant think it would be a quick build.?

Chris told me the same although he did say the first shell was spoken for (for his wife I think?).

I'd prefer a steel one though, no need for dvla etc if it's a new replacement.

With Phatbob - rear hatch or suitable alternative & hatch stays & decent clutch components

Also
decent waterpumps - a lot of people seem to have had ones that don't last recently (obviously there are various suppliers on these, not sure why some fail)
steering racks
HE radiators - I know they are available, but is this dependent upon re-manufacturing existing ones or are there truly new products
Radiator protection panels
gearchange flexi
fuel tanks to original design or similar
Standard shocks - are they still widely available?
Are laminated windscreens easily available?

Locking left hand door handles
When you're in a hole - stop digging/too much to do, too little time

Thanks Phil, that's a genuinely well thought out set of suggestions!

Yes most of those items are on my lists already. Re-conditioning or second hand is going to be the way to go for a while, until good donor parts are n/a and depending on costs and demand.

Speedy Spares do stock the water pumps which were re-made using original drawings from the Rootes Archive Centre.

I am surprised you're the first person to mention shocks, because front ones are n/a unless you want SPAX, AVO or similar. Rear ones no problem I have those in stock NOS.

Laminated windscreens are also in stock, we have a deal for these already and also heated or tinted ones.

Locking LH door handle, its only the push button that's different, but seriously Zamak components are on my list including the rear hatch handle.

Fuel tank is an interesting suggestion, no-one else has asked but I do occasionally sell s/h ones. It may be possible to get them re-conditioned to modern standards, I know Millers do a sealing product which is ethanol proof (or so I'm told by their rep)...

i can get tanks chemically cleaned and powder coated, i have offered to do this but there was not much interest, but if club spares had say 6 to do i would do a batch, if i have to drive twice to places for one tank it gets expensive to keep repeating it but as club member i would do one batch and not charge for the fuel or my time. Happy to do big batches if the demand is there a couple of times per year.

Protech do a full car set of high quality dampers that in my opinion are far superior to GAZ SPAX and AVO (i have tried them all on the rally car and the faults were not just competition induced) Ok so they are adjustable ride height at the front and not the exact same design as standard for a concours car but setting the ride height to standard or a few mm lower to get rid of some positive camber and the soft end of the settings is fine for standard road use.

Laycock clutch covers, i can make enquires about these if you want, it is all i use on the rally car with a paddle spinner plate they are by far the best clutch cover (the works team used to cherry pick them by measuring the clamping pressure from the ones delivered to the production line and obviously pick the ones that were at the correct end of the tolerance to give most clamping pressure).

I believe I read that nobody has any of the original windscreen plastic washer jets.
Not sure if there is a demand for them as there are alternatives and I'm not so sure that amount of original detail is noticed.

I bought stainless steel bolts for the thermostat housing they're standard items readily available already plus using those you don't need to remove the rear shield I don't think there's a reason the stick with studs is there?

Nope. I use bolts on mine (UNC). SO much easier to get the bl00dy thing off again after taking the bolts out.

thermostat housings were re-made years ago and are in plentiful supply either from me or Malc. I think we have them listed. Probably got around 10x in stock.
Camshaft brgs ditto from Ben, me or Malc

I am currently seeking a quote for the rad mesh in stainless.

Stainless studs, bolts, I guess some people enjoy making their own to fit but Ben has just shelled out for BNZ ones I think... I guess Rootes liked studs and stainless probably too expensive at the time.

Are original rubber suspension bushes still available I see a lot are going for the poly ones but I think rubber is better for road use

The long and short manifold studs are some sort of stainless steel at least on early models . .. Imp009 Clan005
1967 Imp Sport turbo 328000 Imp Miles , in the same car

+1 for 155 R12 Pirelli Cinturatos. If made to original spec (apart from grippier modern rubber) they should have sidewalls more supple than Nankangs etc, which would reduce harshness and road roar. And I do wonder how long the Nankangs will continue to be available.

I spoke once with Julian Mazjoub at Blockley Tyres who said he would consider making a Blockley radial in that size. It would have a tread pattern like that of an early-70s India GT Radial. He might be worth chasing up by someone other than me, to show I am not the only one interested.
