Had to strip and powder coat the drivers side one today as the newness passenger one made it look uber tatty.
Also made a headlight adjusting tool as the little clips pushed on the end of the adjusters no longer stay on or do the job

The screen rubber on the Singer is getting iffy , im not a lover of modern rubber seals and have had a few " issues " with them.
So the quandary is this .
I have a NOS screen rubber here in the loft BUT its for an early van ie. no chrome strip insert , just plain black rubber

What do you recon , im not fitting a modern copy and the Vusky has a van one already so i cant swap them

Over to you guys

Could try asking if anyone wants to swap the van one for NOS with insert.

Otherwise it look you'll have to fit the van one or swallow your pride and fit a new one.

Can you not change the insert for a new chrome look one ? It's available from a few of the classic car places, min* spares etc.

Dave, for what it's worth I've had no issues with Malcolm's 'new' seal I had fitted back in early 2009. In fact the fitter commented on the high quality.

I'm with you Dave... sadly the new screen seal fitted to Skye in 2004 has cracked up and leaks like a sieve. Pel still has her original 1976 seal and its perfect (still supple etc) although the insert filler is now a very odd shade of yellowy-orange (and I get folks asking why I don't change it... refer above).

However, I wouldn't fit a van seal to a Chamois, as that would look a bit... wrong/horrid, IMHO. Its a quandary, alright...

Re: Noddys Natterings , More faffing about

Post by Dave ' Linwood ' Lane » Tue Dec 04, 2012 8:04 pm

Just for something to do dinnertime at work more than anything else ive been altering the washer bottle bracket I knocked up years ago .
The pump ( which is a BMW one ) was originally just fitted using a jubilee clip and a bit of foam , not up to my usual standard.
So ive fitted some clips to hold the pump and blasted and powder coated it so it looks better

Old way

Image

New way , By the way if you have iffy washers dont forget to fit a one way valve , it stops the screen wash draining back to the bottle and keeps the pipes full right up to the jets :D

Well i decided to remove the windscreen on the Singer this evening , the rubbers given up and the original windscreen has wiper blade scratches on it , its not been out since 1988 when it was done by a garage , took some shifting to get it out i can tell you .
Found a hole in the N/S bottom corner , not that bad but im glad ive caught it

Image

Cut out the grot , unfortunately the outer edge isnt good

Image

Ive made up this repair which i hope to get welded in tomorrow

I no longer have a hole , a right pain to do and not very neat but its solid

Image

A bit of seam sealer to finish off

Image

Then the quandry about the screen rubber , the old one was knacked so I was down to using the van rubber or a wait for an original saloon one to turn up ,
So ive fitted the van one , it can always come out again as windscreens are only permanent til they get busted  , however I do like the plain look as it matches the side window rubbers , I need to get a piccy of it out the garage and also hose it to check for leaks.
Must be a world first to fit a van rubber in a Chamois so Im at least unique

Agree.

Noddy, you have an eye for what makes a pleasing and appealing visual effect that properly arouses an emotional response.

It's something that those that may have an eye for *anal detail* (like in show and shine) can completely miss.

It's an art form. 8)

 , nope

Just given it a through pre winter storage clean , wipped all the wheels off and gave the inner arches a proper clean.
Then came the leakage test on the windscreen , what i wanted was heavy rain , what I got was a dry day   , So I figured 1/2 hour direct hose treatment would do

Set this up by jamming the hose nozzle on the shed

Image

Which gave me this , went in for a coffee and left for the 1/2 hour , result is no leakage , Rear window copes with this as well although not if you direct the hose right on the joint for a fair while which is understandable really .
Singers now dried off and in winter hibernation.
