Picture retrieval

Post by big J » Wed Sep 06, 2017 9:41 am

Hi lads, been a while.
I posted this in the "general" section but it's probably more relevant here.
If you had your pictures hijacked by photo bucket, Google Chrome users can retrieve them by downloading this app-
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... aieidknhlf

Member eebiegeebie added that Firefox users can do the same using this one-
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefo ... x/?src=api

Your posts should now have all the pictures restored. I'm no computer whiz, but it seems that it works across most forums.
Hope that helps,
John

I have downloaded the Chrome add-on, and I can now see all my previously blocked Photobucket pics ... but it seems I can also see all the other posts which were showing the Photobucket grey image, so perhaps the add-on allows me to view otherwise blocked pics, rather than displaying my images for all to see?

I dunno Mike, but it seems to work??
Yes you're right, I can now view previously blocked images by others as well as my own.

I used the Firefox one and can see my own and it seems others' photos (Noddy etc) so I am happy.

Mikey - I would think that it allows the user to see the photos rather than making your photos visible to those who have not used the add on - it's added onto your computer not any other user/viewer's.

Maybe this info needs adding to the forum user guides..

Hi,
I have just added the Chrome app and it is so simple and works a treat. :D
Nice one Big J and everyone else.

My Pest thread now makes more sense with the photos added back on..

Cheers
Col.

Phil, I shall see how this works out for me when I try it later on. Mind you, my Photobucket images are still working for now. Also, I would like to check that these fixes are working for other forum users.

To that end, it would be helpful if those trying the fixes could continue to inform us as to how they get on.

Make a 'sticky' thread with these links?

I've removed the add in..

Photobucket shouldn't offer a free service and then hold you to ransom later. I'd have no gripe with them if they had frozen the old accounts and required new ones for new photo sharing. As for Image Shack, who deleted my photos and the account - well they can go rot in hell.

This.

I would have had no problem with them saying that all pictures after point "x" would need paying for, but effectively what they have done is built up their business offering one thing (a free service) and then once they have a good client base, they have changed all the goalposts and are effectively holding people to ransom.

Frankly, I think PB have committed commercial suicide...

The add-on is open source, for all to see, so any use of bogus accounts ought to be obvious. I've downloaded it from github and had a look at the code and can't see anything sinister in there? Ditto looking inside the Firefox XPI file itself. Just a simple script that tweaks the link used to retrieve the image? I can't see anything dodgy in this?

I was simply pointing out that the add-on doesn't appear to contain or do anything sinister, however the above is certainly fair comment. For the record, I do not condone the use of these add-ons or any other software for that matter.
