Took the Californian to Swedish MOT. Sailed through. No advisory, just a smile and "Have fun and enjoy your car."
Applied for a personal registration number too.
Overseas contact, Sweden. -69 Cali (998), 2 -64 Imps in need of "some" work.

Insured Stan for another year with Hagerty. Upped the agreed value to £7000, in line with recent prices being asked on the open market. I now have to invest some spit and polish (not Polish) before sending photo images and recent modifications off to the insurer. :D

Re-torqued the cyl.head. Made new gasket for the cam cover. Realized that chromed dome nuts were too shallow so standard plain washers, nuts with drops of Loctite went back. After decades of good work the Lumenition system appeared to work only part-time (3/4). Don't know how to diagnose the Lumenition so reverted back to vac.less 23d4 dizzy with points.

Took Stiletto for a successful MOT. Next: oil change, fit NOS Laycock clutch for a lighter pedal than the current QH clutch gives, and install soundproofing.

Favourite Lumenition fault is a bad earth connection, as I recall. Also possible is dirt on the light emitter and/or receiver.

Just driving it :D !
I want to do 500 miles and re-torque the head, before heading to Kent for Imp2017. Using it on the commute to work and general running around, if the weather's good. It will have covered 230 miles when I get home tonight and so far I am very pleased with it. There is noticeably more power for climbing hills and it sounds a lot less rattley.

Fitted a club spares reconditioned radiator and a new fan bellows.
All seems well, drove the 26 miles to work with nice normal temperatures, despite it being quite warm here in East Anglia.
The old rad. was seeping in several places and had been in the car for 28 years.

Re-torqued the head, having covered 500 miles since the rebuild. Also set the timing with a strobe light. I haven't been able to road test it yet, but it was a long way advanced.

That's a tad less than productive, Baz. Now I haven't done much to Stan today, except chase up an order for stainless steel mesh. However, last Saturday I took Stan into town as I needed a haircut. The car park for said barbers is minute so it's generally accepted that parking on the B & Q car park opposite is the way to go. Did that. Got a haircut. On my return to the car park I espied a man at bonnet end and a woman at engine end. Sneaking up to them behind a van I announced " Ha ! Caught you !" making the guy jump a little. "We were just admiring your Imp. I used to have one back in the day". It turns out he had an early one, pre-suffix even as he eventually recalled the reg number. He had it tuned by Hartwells and even knew about Derringtons near Croydon (?). This chat lasted a good half an hour with both him and his wife (was his girlfriend during the Imp days) sitting in the drivers seat while the other took photographs. :D He was unaware of the existence of the Imp Club, but I invited them to consider coming to Rolvenden on the Sunday if they remembered. As he walked away he said "You know, you've really made my day with this
car". Bless.....

Dawn & I took Suzy out for a run in the warm sunshine up to the Forest of Dean via the Tintern Abbey road (A466), stopping at Lydney Harbour for a walk and then Taurus Crafts for a couple of ice creams. Lovely trip & roads - it's what Imps were made for!
Got back home and greased the kingpins - so much easier when they are warm!

All good then :D I've been messing about with a front grille. If it's satisfactory, it may see the end of the yellow one.

I can't yet work out how to use the new image hosting site to show a direct image. Perhaps it's because I'm trying on my smartphone and not a proper computer.

Oh and an oil change.

Hopefully the old girl will hold together for her trip daaahn saaaf.

I would put pics up... but 1) Photobucket is f*cked and 2) this site is a bit daft about its rules concerning the size of images...
