Argyle Stages

Post by Macrootes »

Went on the Argyle Stages Sunday. 170 miles over some amazingly good (and bad road surfaces), one being a 21 miles single track down one side of Loch Awe. Scenery to die for, weather a bit hit and miss and a run up the Rest and be Thankfull !!!! Lunch in Inverary, met a local who followed me in his car, via a couple of u turns till I parked up in the main street. He jumped out and started asking questions. He also said when he was 17 he owned the first Imp in Argyle and drove the wheels off it!!! Imp011 Imp009 Imp005 Imp011

No, not as yet. Alan is going to take a look at it next week. The brakes were the main issue for the MOT. The Benson failed it for imbalance left to right both front and back. So bought four matched front cylinders and fitted them myself, that was a task and a half. Alan helped with the lower shoes, could not get them fitted. Re-test on the Saturday afternoon at 15.00, pass. Taxed at 15.30 result. Got up at 07.00 the following morning having left the car outside all night to save moving all the cars in the morning and walking up the neighbours with Chris's BMW Mini. Would'nt start. Took for ever and a day to start and almost flattened the battery. Once started its fine and ran fine all day on the rally. 170 miles, long day, good meal at the rally finish (Dumbuck Hotel, Dumbarton). Imp011

Alex, great photos.
But surely that's the Argyll Classic.
The Argyll Stages is a forest event.
Thought for a moment you were mixing it with WRC Evos , Focus etc!
Cheers
Alan

Some of the single track roads were rough as a forrest stage. Good fun and a cracking day out.

Found that if I run the car on full choke for a very short time before switching the engine off it starts a lot better next time. But not sure what would happen if I left it for a longer than normal period. Its going for its pre-season check at Alan's next week. Imp011
