Michelle the clan. JPW 953L
Thought I would make a thread for my clan I just bought. Dad and I went on a wee trip from up here in the highlands all the way to wales and came back with a right garage full.
These 2 cars ment i had to make space in the garage and move the super to our lock up and squeeze morag to the top of the garage.
And now we have no space in the garage
As most of you will have relised these two cars, as i understand, are well known in the club. Our plans are to use them to take to rallys and enjoy the summer with them. Both of them are really nice but just need a few bits tidied up but it is nothing major.
As for my clan, it has a tuned 930 engine. The carb needs tuned and the suspension raised at the front because the tie rod adjusters are hitting the wishbones. And the interior needs tidied up just a wee bit. The biggest problem i have is i went to wash the clan and the water poured in the door and in the sunroof. Is this a common problem? Or can they be fixed?
I look forward to the comments, and i will hopefully have pictures to show you as time goes by. Thanks, Euan

Re: Michelle the clan. JPW 953L
The tie rod adjusters will not be sorted by raising the suspension.
Vague memory of seeing this issue before but can't remember the full story of the problem perhaps someone else will know.
Clan doors not the most effect barrier to water but there is some posts in Lotus-e-clan's thread.

A friend's Clan had this issue. Turns out he'd fitted early mk1 Imp type stub axles. The steering arms on these put the track rods much closer to the wishbones. The problem is compounded by fitting Fiesta ball joints, which are deeper than Imp ones. The fix was to replace the stub axles with ones off a much later Imp.

That's a nice collection!
I'm sure that your water permeable door issue can be resolved. Hopefully those with the know-how will be along at some point.
Which carburettors are fitted to the Clan's tuned 930?

Looking at the photo the sunroof appears to be tilted open slightly at the back. I think this may be allowing the water to get in.cam94bus wrote:i went to wash the clan and the water poured in the sunroof. Is this a common problem?

I doubt whether anyone would actually be so daft as not to notice it Grahame, its a bit like leaving all the windows down and saying the same thing.Grahame59 wrote:Looking at the photo the sunroof appears to be tilted open slightly at the back. The carb i have is a single weber twin choke, not sure on size, 28/32 perhaps?

Surely you can't drive it with your head out of the roof? Wouldn't that be classed as slightly dangerous?Lotus-e-Clan wrote:Is that because you are tall?cam94bus wrote:ye the sunroof is actually open in the picture because i can only drive it when it is open
Some racing Clan's had a pod on the roof so you could drive it with a helmet on, that's what's needed?

Re: Michelle the clan. JPW 953L
The other week there i pulled out the clan from the garage and gave her a wee clean.
I still couldnt get it to run right at all so i phoned ricky gauld and got it booked in for a tune.
he worked his magic and had it on the rolling road. The jets are slightly too big but the clan is running so good now! Was so much fun aswell watching ricky tuning it aswell. so a few days after i got it home i went for a wee run with my dad over to golspie which is about 6 miles from mine, got there perfectly but on the way back the clan started coughing and spluttering and then decided to konk on the steepest hill known to man (or atleast to me it was as i push the wedge of cheese up it) Had a quick look and the fuel had vapourised because the fuel line was wraped round the oil cooler. so took the fuel hose off and moved it out of the way.Since then i have fitted a braided line and re directed it out of the way of any heat.
The problem is since then there is a very slight miss in the car and when you plan the throttle it pulls like a train but gives a wee miss that you can feel and hear. Cannot put my finger on it at all.
From my test run it is apparent i need to lift the front end up because the wheels rub but also the steering sticks if you go round a lumpy corner.
So the "to do" list goes
Raise the suspension,
fix the slight miss,
move the oil cooler,
change the throttle cable,
rebuild the water pump,
make the car water tight, water pouring in the doors,
change the clutch flexi hose and change the fluid,
And i also have to find an air filter from somewhere.
think thats it. I also have a 930 water pump aswell that needs rebuild but i doubt i can get a kit from anywhere?

Re: Michelle the clan. JPW 953L
Probably the 930 if the car is already modified to use one, Imp pumps dont have a great reputation but it does have a hard life driving the fan as well as the waterpump, the 930 is a simpler more conventional design and hence more reliable.

Re: Michelle the clan. JPW 953L
If it still has front radiator then it must still have the 930 pump that was on it when Ken had it. As Scott says the front half (of the pump housing) is Avenger and readily availablecam94bus wrote:If i was to use an imp pump it wouldnt have a fan. By the way I'm looking for a 930 water pump so if anyone has one spare give me a PM
