Hi

My plan is to try and get a house so I can park the car in the house when its finished :D

A few more pictures of the car. The bonnet vent is an improved version of the original, honestly I wasn't sure whether to included it but its turned out really well in the end.

Under the bonnet we have the alloy rad and petrol tank in place for a trial fitting. the seal for the rad is not in place but when that is on the air has no where to go other than through the rad.

There is a cover for the radiator to duct the air out but this isn't done yet.

The wiring will run through the front legs and into the car and the wiper etc is repositioned under the dash.

Cheers

Dunno why but I really fancy some custard right now...

The car is looking good, Darren. :D It'd be interesting to see some pictures of the suspension arms and other special components, when it's convenient.

Hi All,

Not done many updates lately but things have been progressing.

The seats are full carbon fibre from Motordrive, but tried to keep them looking a little period with the blue stripe and GE logo.

The engine is the latest purchase and is a full race Rodwell motorsport 1200cc with Jenvey throttle bodies.

The car should be on its wheels soon and hopefully at the NEC in November

Cheers

It's good to hear from you. :)

How is the car itself progressing?

That engine is a work of art! It should go 'quite nicely.'

The radiator was made at Amber Racing but unfortunately they don't exist anymore

Nice to see youre sticking with the crap unreliable hopeless too costly IMP engine and not going BMW as seems very popular with new builds at the moment, but then I suppose it wouldnt be a Greetham proper just a Greetbmw, doesnt have the same ring about it does it. 8)

Hi,

It always had to have an Imp engine in it, it is a pretty special Imp engine though.

Can't wait to see what a 1200cc imp engine goes like although the plan is for it to live in the house when its done :D

Hi,

I never noticed it in the video, there are some pictures of it and a few comments about it in this months CAR magazine.

There are a few more modifications to come including the dashboard which will be a modified smoothed stiletto dashboard with new gauges etc.

My Consul Capri project is in the garage at the moment so I will hopefully be in there for a few winter evenings

Cheers

What make of calipers are you putting on the front? As the brackets are for radial mounting calipers (like sports bikes) I wondered on the calipers. All looks great by the way.

Hi,

The calipers are Wilwood radial mount. It has the same calipers front and back and a hydraulic handbrake. There is also a BIAS pedal box courtesy of Mike Dent.

Brake prominent... you need to have a sensor fitted so you can stop the car at that exact point. Does look nice, blue and yellow. Love the car colour.

Hi Peter,

Over the years they had a lot of different wheels. the turbovec wheels were on Campbell's Imp which had the flared arches. A lot had 12" Astralis on which look really nice and I do have two sets of those. Mine had Cobra super slots at one stage before its rebuild in the early nineties where it had the revolutions fitted.

I did look long and hard at different wheels as the brakes meant I needed more clearance in the wheel. It was either these or Image split rims but I preferred the cleaner look of the revolutions and they fit in with the period look on the outside of the car. The ones fitted are 6.5" wide race spec revolutions which work well with the increased track on the back of the car

It should have some tyres on it next week and be sat on the floor so we will have a better idea of how it sits.

Cheers

From the very limited view of the car in the shots above, it looks stunning, Darren! Lovely work!

I like Revolutions too. I actually prefer the four-spoke design over the five-spoke too.

Hi Thanks for the kind words,

I looked at a lot of wheels but in the end the Revolutions gave me the look I was after and the black and polished rim should compliment well with the black glass with the chrome surround.

Hopefully all the tyres arrive this week so should have some pictures of it on its wheels soon.

Mota Lita steering wheel just ordered as well as the heated screen so it is starting to look like a car again

I'm so glad this is staying Imp powered - I'm sure there was one of the Greetham Imps that was going to get a bike engine up its bum. IIRC it had been painted electric blue too - if I'm honest, I thought it was this one, so I'm doubly glad to see it's kept its lovely yellow paint.

Hi Tim,

This is very definitely staying Imp engine, putting a bike engine would definitely have been cheaper but I wanted to try and stay true to the original Greetham Imp, just with a modern twist.

Externally it will look very much like it always had with the yellow paint, black glass and oil cooler on the rear bumper but underneath its had one or two changes :D

I've been building this car in my head for 30 + years and its getting close now

The electric blue imp is now a space frame imp with mid mounted bike engine and lives in the same village as me.

Cheers

Hi,

Thanks for the compliment, the rear chassis legs have been reinforced and fully boxed in to allow the hangar to work properly, it is also tied into a support bar inside the back of the car but that link is not in place on those pictures.

The back panel is now a single steel skin that bolts in place so when the boot is shut it doesn't look any different from standard and I don't have to worry about scratching the back panel anymore.

Cheers, after over 300 Imps I think this is definitely going to be the last one :D

I wanted this car when I was 11 years old so I decided I would build a copy of it, but actually ended up with the real thing about 10 years ago.

Its been a long build with plenty of heartache along the way but the end is finally in site.

Hi, it’s actually a Vauxhall Corsa colour now, previously it was Mercedes sprinter van yellow, and before that ford signal yellow.

Originally the shell was wardance when it was new but been yellow a very long time.

It should soon have its black glass again as well

Morning All,

A few more progress pics as things are moving forward quickly now.

The five speed gearbox will be on its way soon as well so that should work well with the 1200cc engine.

We have found someone to make the proper black glass as well now so its all coming together.

Its going to miss the National but if things go to plan it could be at the NEC in November.

Cheers
