Back on the road!

Post by farina »

Meltdown! Narrowly avoided a catastrophe following a short circuit.
A couple of wires got a bit hot which was worrying but after rewiring a section of the loom and adding a couple of fuses here and there, all is well again.
And here it is . . . . .

Very nice looking car, the colour really suits it 8)
Can't belive fuses were never fitted to the earlier models

Crazy innit! They've been putting fuses in cars forever. I used to run a '62 A40 which had fuses.
I believe it was only the very late Imps which had fuses although I have had some put in now. Imp003

Well done! 8) That's a lovely looking Imp!

Which shade of blue is the car painted? Is it an original Imp colour? It looks metallic from the photos. I am merely curious. :)

I believe it is called 'Blue Metallic'. I was told it had a strip-down and re-spray about 10 years ago.
It's got a good coat on it but I need to get the front arches done over the winter. Imp003

Mt van was fitted with a fuse box, it's a '69 round dial one so I'm guessing that it may be from '69 when the round dial revamp was done that they introduced fuse boxes. Albeit a very basic fuse box.

Sounds like a retrofit to me, Pete. IIRC, fuseboxes came along in around 1975 with the fitment of alternators.

I agree. Stan is a 72 Deluxe, but the only fuses he has are ones I've fitted retrospectively :?

Considering how many accidental melted wires I have heard of happen and how many of these cars are in the club I am surprised Fuses haven't all been retro fitted by now.

Well, as I said at the top, winter (or is it monsoon) is passing and the wheel arches are being done next week.
Then I can put some mini-lites on it. Should smarten it up a bit. Will post a pic when done. Imp003

I like Minilites lots. :) In my humble opinion, your car looks very smart already on its steel wheels. Mind you, I think it would look smart on any wheels!

Hey, Noddy ! Have you ever used those fuses with the little indicator "Tell-Tale" bulbs in them ?
