You might change your mind about the sunroof when its on the road - Clans get very stuffy and airless in my experience without a sunroof.

Generally speaking you will get some throughflow in an irish clan, it comes through the two small vents at the front and over the wheel arch into the cabin. Rarely do those sunroofs actually work and you can't get spare parts for them.

As for front rad pipes, with a little opening up of a couple of bits of bulkhead you can run 25mm rubber hoses through the sills and into the front, its the setup that i'm currently running and is working nicely.

..and if it's anything like the glass one I took out (it looks similar) ...it''ll weigh a ton!

I haven't glassed my roof in yet mind. I'll I've done so far is fit a very thin carbon-effect black ABS sheet cut to the same shape as the sun roof and attached with about 30 or 40 tiny countersunk head allen bolts - doen't look too shabby unless you're really fussy ...and weighs NOTHING!.

Quite a long job glassing up the roof and tricky to get the profile looking right, mines not perfect but a casual glance now and it doesn't appear too bad

Those pieces of ironwork ought to spread the load of an impact quite nicely. And they shouldn't rust any time soon. Nice work!

Dramatic stuff! :D

If you are using it as a road car in all weathers (as well as comp work) you might want to consider fitting strategic plastic panels to protect the engine bay from road dirt off the rear wheels.... and /or reducing the wind/drag on the inside of the back panel?

Ok. I Forgot about the turbo.

That said. If I went the turbo route I would still want to isolate the engine bay so it was relatively draught-free and therefore I'd try to position radiators and intercoolers specifically for cooling outside of the engine bay - OR isolated /ducted and air-flowed within it with no hot air leakage within the engine bay.

In an ideal world excess air circulation around the engine should be unnecessary ie all cooling should by via ducted /isolated rads/intercoolers. OK that might be a big ask in terms of space and location but If you keep the rads /turbo open/un-isolated within the engine bay then temperatures will tend to go up if hot air can't exit efficiently.

I have now isolated my rear rad air flow -but before I did that, the hot exit air within the engine bay (mine is a reverse flow rear rad) just added to the overall temperature load ...I'm aiming for complete isolation of the engine bay but it's a slow process 'cos the wife is stopping me from buying a set of high lifts ramps atm - ramps would make the job so much easier!

Mind you, the cooling need for a short-course sprint car is not equal to a long-run endurance car - the former may never get it's oil warmed despite 168 BHP from a turbo and the almost constant use of WOT (IIRC Eric never even ran an oil cooler at one point!). Whereas the latter will become systemically heat-soaked sooner or later - even on part-throttle runs - ie road car cooling is usually designed to deal with a wider range of operating conditions.

The car seems to have progressed well. :) Are you going to construct a removable rear panel?

Keep up the great work.

I just read your other posts under your other thread on the subject. Excellent stuff! :D

Do you have any idea when the car will be ready? Will it be at the Imp Club national at Huntingdon in late July and early August of this year, for example?
