There is never much to report when rubbing and filling bodywork but good to hear Libby is close to the final paint.
That's a good place to be for sure.

keep it going.will be worth it in the end.
I have found the lucas wiper plug from carbuildersolutions , and the other plugs are 8 pin or 9 pin
so will replace both halves.

so now the real fun begins
I have the wiring harness spread out on a pin board.i have identified most of the wires bar 2
a large green (28 strands) under the dash and a white with brown trace (14 strands) from the engine to the printed circuit board
the wiring diagram in my Haynes and wsm doesn't match the harness I have.white seems to be power but mine are green.
they change colour at the fuse box,big brown in green out.
I think the unidentified green is power for the hrw but the white and brown I'm not sure
the car is a 1975 imp deluxe,the harness has not been messed with apart from one wire to the rear off side light.
I'm going to order the wiring this morning from vehicle wiring products.they have the right colours.
most of the imps wire is 14 strands so I'm using thinwall 32 strands only because the colours will match and better protection
hopefully it will all fit in the cills etc.all joints will be soldered and heat shrinked.

the diagrams in the manuals does not cover the cars with fuses
so if you use the search function above for l5/l6 wiring diagram you should come across
a diagram with the fuses and the changes made to later cars.
the big green is the hrw switch
white with brown trace is the oil pressure switch to dash light.

It sounds as though you are making excellent progress on the car, Chris.
That may be your only option, unless you manage to find a new, unused block connector or unless you manage to dismantle your used connector.

I would just cut the block connector off the old loom with a length of wire still attached - at least about 30 centimetres. Then I would graft that onto the new loom, staggering the lengths of the loom tails so that your soldered joints do not end up as a giant lump that you need to try to hide behind the dashboard.chris d wrote:just the printed circuit board plug to deal with.

you can buy multiplug connectors , they dont match but by changing both ends the result will be the same

I have run a couple of extra wires through as well because I want to fit a rev counter and battery gauge.
just have to work out where to attach the rev counter wires in the engine bay
coil possibly.its a smiths tacho.
one silly question
the main brown that runs from the starter solenoid to the tashboard puzzled me
large brown 44 strands to a dead end with 4 wires of 16 strands connected to power everything.
it was done at the factory but seams a bit daft.i am hoping to fit an additional fuse box for the large brown
and then run the 4 small wires from that fuses included.
if it sets on fire then so be it
the answer to the length of the the complete harness end to end is
1,423 metres.
I would post pics but photobucket has locked my account so you will have to imagine my work

What is the wiring like on the rear of the tachometer? Is it the same type of tachometer as is fitted in the Sunbeam Stiletto? If so, I believe one of the white wires on the rear of the tachometer connects to the ignition coil negative, the other to earth. It senses current switching in the negative side of the ignition coil. Following the wiring diagram in the workshop manual. Other Smiths tachometers connect to ignition coil positive, I believe. It depends upon which type you have. Post a photo of the wiring. It is easy using the forum's own uploader. libby is more or less in colour now so the rebuild begins
one problem is the rear window trim that goes onto the roof edge
do you put the clips in the trim or onto the roof to fit
trying not to damage the paint
will probably be more questions later and will try and sort my pictures out

On my car, the clips came off with the trim so when I reinstalled it, I applied a thick layer of waxoyl over the seam and then another into the trim and then clipped it back on. My idea being that if it scratched the paint on the body, the waxoyl would seal it in so no moisture would get into it and it would act as a lubricant! It worked.

Loads of waxoyl inside the trim section and then on the body flange, fit the new clips into the trim and tap it onto the body with a rubber mallet or by hand even then go around and squirt some more waxoyl around the edges and wipe off the excess, that will do it.

Make it the "such like", Chris. NOT silicone. The acetic acid could eat into your new paint. If you really have to glue it on, buy a proper gun able tube of suitable Sikaflex type stuff.

morning all
libby will be home from the painter in the next week or so
now the silly questions
on the 75 dash the clock panel trim is held in by 6 screws.but I seem to be missing 1 in the top right corner
nearest the drivers door.
on the glove box side the cover trim that goes around the lock is not fitting correctly
it has a lip on it,does this go to the bottom or the top of the dash frame.
ive tried both ways and no joy.the dash frame is not bent or twisted just cleaned and repainted.
I would include pictures but pb issues will not let me

sorted the above,the frame lip was sprained,sorted with the hammer and dolly
the missing screw has never been there and its covered with the end cap
rootes saving money so all is good

Mine originally had a missing screw too Chrysler worked that every 6 cars they saved 1 cars worth of screws so got to be worth doing

finally back from painter
so January turned into june but libby is finally back
now the rebuild starts
all the threaded nuts need cleaning out ie seat backs,gear change mount etc
then I can start putting things on.
screen wash jets and wiper mechanism will be first(that I remember from doing the stiletto)
could I use 1/4 inch copper pipes for the clutch/brake reservoir to the peddle box,
the original steel pipes are corroded a bit where the rubber connection fitted and are problably rusty inside.
there are 2 seals for the back window, 1 on the frame itself and another on the body lip if I remember.
I'm upgrading her to sport engine with twin stroms,sport manifold and exhaust,dizzy,cam etc
also she is now dark blue inside and out (sue doesn't like green).
will try and post some pics later
might even be ready for national (don't hold your breath)

spend today cleaning all the mounting holes and threads (didn't realise they were so many)
7 in the brake/clutch plate
5 for the heater and water pipe
3 on the throttle mounting
etc etc etc
still havnt done them all,now my back is aching.

That's looking great Chris, keep up the good work mate,
I'll never forget your initial reaction at winning the Stiletto class and then a bit later when you realised you'd won Rosemary's Trophy Imp Cymru.
It was well deserved and remains one of my stand-out highlights whilst I was in the hot seat.

I'll never forget your initial reaction at winning the Stiletto class and then a bit later when you realised you'd won Rosemary's Trophy Imp Cymru.
It was well deserved and remains one of my stand-out highlights whilst I was in the hot seat.

yes grahame that day is etched in my mind (crying in public and making an arse out of myself) but all for a good cause.
what about the sussex lot as Baywatch that has got to be up there as well.
pete. sue chose the colour,modern blue ford ka I think.she doesn't like green cars and seeing as this is for her colour change it is.
gary. yes the doors are tricky,i told the painter to go easy on the front scuttle below the windscreen but I don't think he heard me
plenty off paint used.4 gallon to be precise.glad its not the old type Granada or something big,probably be in double figures.
the doors need hanging with the hinges as far to the outside as possible,then trial and error moving it inwards until your happy.
so far this week i have cleaned and tapped all the mounting holes in the body,
today i am going to trial fit the old headlinning then remake a new one and hopefully have it done this weekend then i can get her on stands remove the front end to mount the speedo cable, throttle cable, brake and fuel lines.1/4 copper for the fuel and kunifer for the brakes.then its a case of finding everything to go back on,loft, spare bedroom, garage all have bits stored away.its a small car but they take up a lot of room when disasembled.

so managed to find a lot of the parts for libby
cleaned out all the threads ready for the rebuild
found my box of brake nuts and nipples
but the coating had started to discolour with age and no dought a bit of damp
so I have been re plating them with nickel.
will post a pic later

had a good day in the garage yesterday
finally got the front rad fitted
I had planned on using a spare heater matrix and modded the air box before painting.
but
on fitting, the new soldered pipes felt a little loose,and promply fell off
so I had another go at soldering them on
and another
and another
you see whats happening here
im no good at soldering.i eventually destroyed the end can on the matrix.
i have 1 more spare but might need that for its original use,so bought a 12 row oil cooler from the net
.i had to wait a couple of weeks for delivery because of paypal so fitted the front end bits.
i have ducted the heat away through the n/s front wheel same as stellas,using some old heater duct and a box for the
for the rad to sit in.
most of the nuts and bolts are stainless steel so should be easy to remove and the plumbing is standard compression
fittings available anywhere.

stellas is a standard matrix and works ok,so im hoping this model will work a bit better.

Looks good. Ducting out of the wheelarch is the best way to do it, I think. Mine is done the same way.

i put the divider in first because i was going to use the slighty smaller standard rad
but when i balls up the standard rad i needed one to fit.took ages finding one
most of the normal mocal ones were to wide by about an inch and didnt want to start cutting a chopping the fresh paint
had to make 2 holes in the top of the hornbox for inlet and outlet.small adjustment for different rad.
next time i will get the rad first and then fix the divider
there is no name on the rad but not mocal because a bit narrower

looking very smart Chris, one thing i would reccomend is sealing off all around the edge of the rad. you have a large gap below the rad, this is the route 90% of the air will take rather than go through the small gaps in the fins, it is the air passing over the fins that provides the cooling, the more air you can force through more fins the more efficient the radiator will be, this is usually the big mistake every body makes when doing a large front radiator conversion they do not duct the air in and out properly hence why people usually reccomend larger rads than is required because people tried one type and it did not cool well enough so they go bigger rad until the capacity of water allows sufficient cooling for the distance they have driven on test runs. it would be a simple job to improve the cooling of your small rad.
my front rad is only 8 X 16 inch 2 inch thick and it cools the rally engine to 70 deg no matter what i do to the car.

I have a standard ball valve to operate the circuit.
probably not use the car so much in the cold weather so open in summer only
sunday
I managed to spray some waxoil in the cills.front and rear wheel arches.rear window aperture
front end below the heater motor.already done the front and rear suspension.
still have the door bottoms and rear transom to do.also inside the bonnet edge.
any where else

finally got round to putting the engine and transaxle in
new clutch and brake hydrolics fitted
rear transom fitted
new engine mount and bush fitted
new handbrake cables fitted
all done because i need to move her out the way so i can sort the stiletto out
because hopefully she will be going to ireland in may
