Hehe well I can DEFINITELY reccomend a Series Land Rover (I've got two, and am VERY obsessed with them!! :D )

If you're not a million miles from the midlands & are looking for one pm me, I'd Gladly come & look at any with you :D

Also this is how the above Landy looks now, after I finished the engine swap on her :D

Nope, both came from the now-defunct Trinity Motors (Ary still wears her original rear plate)

Also plans are forming regarding Odie... :D

There used to be a few garages by the name of Trinity Motors in Leicestershire, sure one was in Mountsorrel, a Fiat dealer at one time?

Is Odie getting a makeover?

Well its been a while!

Odie's been sat since last update, hadn't the mojo or the inclination to try to fix her, thats how much of a bad taste the experiences had caused

However its been slowly rising, and got a massive boost helping Mr Morgan recover that reclusive Imp :D

And now I've got all the bits I need (once I find the 'safe place' I put the clutch plate in...)

Soo hoping once I finish Ary in the next couple of evenings I'll be making a start on Odie, and she'll hopefully be fairly quick, as kinda need her on the road again for the 8th

Bit of a steep learning curve for me!!

*blush!*

to be honest, silly as it is working on the engine/gearbox still worries me! Thats despite happily changing engines, gearboxes or Anything on my Landies (Ary currently has her timing case & front of engine stripped down waiting for me to re-assemble after a crack in the crank pulley caused the pulley to work loose, and the woodruff key to fall into the sump!)

Its something I KNOW I need to get over, and I know I will, got no choice lol

To me it appears you have both experience and common sense with regards to car mechanicals in general.
Now it's just to overcome the "first time" doubts. You'll do it. :D
By the way, I remember that - at some point - you wrote you were doing trips to Stockholm (Sweden). It appeared to happen from time to time, even if not on a regular basis. I live 25 kilometres south of Stockholm, only 1 kilometre of the E4. You're welcome for a chat and a cuppa. Just give me some notice a couple of hours in advance.

Best of luck for the weekend. Sure it'll be nice and easy.... However with your experience of wrecking gearbox's I don't hold much hope for you to not to break this one!

(Btw just incase you didn't guess who I was before I'm Tom from Facebook - quite lucky as I only only go on there months apart and yours happened to be one of the top messages!)

Lars unfortunately I think that was a one-off, when work set up our Stockholm office. But hopefully not! :)

Tom, tbh I've only ever broke Land Rover series 3 boxes, which are known to be made from BL's finest stilton! 8)

Atm there's more hammerite & oil engrained in my hands/nails than varnish!!

Well I finally found the 'Extremely safe place' I put the clutch plate for Odie

...on Odie's passenger seat!

Admittedly a terry pratchet book had fallen over half of it

And it matches up to the brand new cover I brought, and that in turn matches to the brand new release bearing :D

And the new oil filter element arrived today aswell :D

And Mr Morgan has VERY kindly offered to assist with the swap on sunday :D :D

lol yep, am VERY lucky :D

You know your mojo for a car has returned when even while she's still broken you find yourself looking for better carbs & cams
(not entirely without any base, as the solex on her is worn - thinking a 'performance' solex for now, if can find one)

Well thanks MASSIVELY to the help of Tim Morgan Odie is now back together, and running :D

This was when we stopped for lunch:

Image

However still have a clutch hydraulic issue, traced to the flexi being borked. Going to give Uncle Malc a call tomorrow see how quickly he can get one to me :)
(Also need to see about getting a new gearbox mounting bolt)

& all put together, been running (though a jubilee clip on the bottom hose is borked aswell) & the battery is on charge

Image

tired, achey, but happy, and have broke my fear of working on Imp engines :D

Yes a great fun day. Not surprised that the old clutch was utter utter crap - Morris Minor clutch (complete with poxy sprung friction plate) with broken actuating levers and made of the cheapest *pressed* galvanised steel. You could see it had done no miles (you could read the fitment stickers still on the friction plate) and yet it was fit for the bin.

The takeaway from this is *NEVER* fit cheap clutches - and if you are having one fitted insist that they don't fit an abomination like this one. To be clear, though, Vee never asked for a cheap nasty clutch to be fitted... the last garage took it upon themselves to buy that... and should have known better, IMHO.

Shame the clutch flexi is borked (its soft and floppy as a... well, you get the picture) otherwise I'm sure Odie would have been driving this evening.

Glad to help, Vee and if you get stuck again, you only have to ring me. 8)

Aww thanks again though hun, has been a fun (if tiring) day :) that moment when I turned the key & she sprang to life (eventually)

only ran her for a few moments, as the bottom hose was leaking. But soon :D (& Really need to sort the carb replacement out ASAP, that one on her is about dead :| ) :|

& with the clutch I'm alittle annoyed with them, because there was a brand new laycock clutch kit fitted when she went in, yet that dodgy crud one was fitted! Coupled with their response when I took her back after less than a month, NOT impressed!! :x

Got the clutch flexi fitted, and finally bled up (took the slave cylinder off to do bleed it, using easybleed)

However there still feels like theres some air in the system, its not 100% and sometimes needs a pump. Going to run her to work today, and maybe up to the Griifins Head classic meet at Papplewick, then try again tomorrow

Vee,

When I originally put LNK back on the road a few years back the clutch was bled several times. In use the fluid level dropped twice with no signs of leaks anywhere so I just topped it up both times. After the second top-up the level stayed where it was so there must have still been some air in there which eventually self-bled.

Hrrm, will keep an eye on it. at the moment I'm pretty sure there is definitely some air in the system, which I just can't rid of

Going to use her today & then try bleeding with my Dad's help tomorrow evening :)

If that doesn't help trying to source a genuine lucas master cylinder for sensible money & will renew ALL the pipe!

As she's sitting at work:

Brilliant to see this out and about. :D

FWIW, I've had a CompBrake master cylinder on my brakes for about 5 years with no problem - and they're the cheapest Girling-copy cylinder about. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280936719196
