Drive it Day in the North West

Postby hillmanimp_uk » Thu Feb 07, 2008 11:24 am

I’m pleased to annnounce "Drive it day -North West"
As a joint effort between Cheshire, Derby and Warrington area centres in supporting the FHBVC and its drive it day campaign.
More details will follow soon as they are subject to confirmation and possible change, but as a brief outline, we aim to meet in Macclesfield at approx 10am on the 20th April, for a 10.30 departure. Route maps and directions will be issued on the day; the route will take in the ‘Cat and Fiddle’ pass up and over into Derbyshire where you can stop at the pub of the same name at the summit for a breather and maybe a photo or two. The route will then take us via mainly B- roads down into Leek, Staffs where will stop for lunch and a walk about. Total mileage is estimated at 15-20 miles from Macclesfield to Leek.
If anyone has any questions you can either pm me (hillmanimp_uk) or Graham Traxon ,Derby ACO (traco)
Or call us
Andy 07725 996911 before 9.00pm
Or
Graham 07768 651849 before 9.00pm

Right,ladies and gentlemen.
Big thanks to phatbob for being my chauffeur on sunday as i am nursing a bother shoulder and can't drive.
We have now driven the route and finalised the details.
Start point is at Macclesfield BR station ,meeting at about 10.00am for a 10.30 pull away,We then go straight up and over the Cat and Fiddle pass, with a breather at the top for pics and the cars to cool down (and the drivers) then we loop into Buxton via Pavilion gardens and you can join in here if you don't fancy doing the Cat and Fiddle .
We will then head south towards Ashbourne but we turn off just before it and take in some great B roads and emerge just south of Leek.
We managed to find a car park in Leek which is free on a sunday and is near the town centre, so you can wander off and grab a bite to eat etc.
And getting home from Leek is easy,Macclesfield ,Buxton and Stoke are all on A roads out of Leek.
i will be posting up a download shortly ,with maps and directions etc for you to print off ,but i will be handing them out on the day as well.
It does include important things like loo's ,food, petrol stations, speed limits and most importantly the hidden speed cameras

Total mileage was just shy of 50 miles and depending on how you drive it should take about 1.5 to 2 hours ,which should get you nicely into Leek just in time for lunch.

Looking forward to this.
Hopefully I shall be rocking down with Dean.

Also, for anyone interested, if you fancy a bit more driving afterwards I have an awesome little route planned for the way home/after Leek. Head up to Buxton, turn right and then head up the hill basically:

Ops didn't scroll that far up.

Ideally PDF is a better format, as it is less vulnerable to virus's, smaller and can be viewed by (the admittedly very small number of) people who do not have MS word (or a word viewer) installed in their PC's. This is very important if you have the misfortune to run Office 2007 which is really incompatible with almost everything. RTF is a better output from word to enhance compatibility.

Sorry back to the run - hope the weather is good, anyone seen the forcast.

See you all there.

I'm tripping it across for this, partly because the route I have planned to get home afterwards is awesome! Did a bit of it today.
Might also have an MGB coming along as well, FAF's partner in crime round these parts! Have to wait and see.

Steve, I can convert it to PDF if you want?

it would appear that we have an added and unforseen bonus.tomorrow in leek they are holding the 'Best of British day' ,its a parade followed by a classic car show apparently, quite why the council and the police failed to mention it when asked if there were any clashing events is anyones guess but it means we get to see even more classic cars :D :D

we did,thanks baz.
i estimate we had around 25/30 cars ,and quite a varied selection too.mk1 escy,s11 landie ,a bond equipe ,capri ,old bmw 5 series, lotus elan, metro? loads of minis and quite a few imps.
skamanfrank not only made it to the meet point but made it to journeys end too,and no-one afaik broke down.weather wasnt great,it was a bit cold but it didnt rain although it did get a bit damp in them thar hills what with the low cloud etc.
and as the added bonus the car show was alright too
roll on next year,i'm aiming for 50 cars  :D

It was nice to meet some new people today and put some names to faces. Me and Frank made it back too! 8) It was a nice journey out and as said above some varied selection of cars.

I took some photo's (mainly of the car show) for all to see.
