Rolling Road Day on 29th September near Gloucester J13 M5

Post by Adrian » Thu Jul 26, 2007 10:24 am

Hi all,

I was looking at organising an open day on the rollers at Spamspeed in Stroud near Gloucester simular format to last years one.

I was not sure if anyone else was planning a simular thing, so I thought I would Air the idea here first to see what interest there was.

I will find out some costs later today as I am playing with the racer on the rollers this afternoon!

Cheers
Adrian :)

I'm booked in at bradleys for a partial map a few days before the national - got to get the engine in tomorrow and put some miles on it this weekend as don't want to be running it in on rollers too much ;-)

Update

Post by Adrian » Fri Jul 27, 2007 9:55 am

Thanks Si I have spoken to Spam this morning and the date I am going for is Saturday the 29th September, the prices vary due to numbers and cash price.

£40 for up to 9 cars
£35 for 10 to 14
£30 for 15 plus cars

He said up to 3 runs per car can be done, depending on time. which is rather handy to try out a few different things to rustle up a few more neddies!

Let me know if this date is ok and I will put you down on the list as confirmed

I would have come if you wern't going to Spam's
I have been to see him twice with my cars, first time I was happy second time I left after him not doing what I asked and feeling thoroughly ripped off.

Oh and never get him to build an A-series gear box for you. (Second hand parts were found inside when new ones were paid for  ) He does know his stuff about A-series stuff though.

Hi all,

The numbers of cars are growing for the rolling road day, can I ask those of you who are going to send me an mail to imp423208@yahoo.co.uk

I will list everyone out with contact details, car reg Etc. Also I will need a £10 deposit by the End of August, and will be sending a reminder near the time.

I shall be taking my infared temp probe so if any of you want to check the reading on you water temp gauge to what it is really is on the cylinder head you can. I had gauges sat in the red when it was only 80 degrees, due to miss matched senders.

PS: Historic Saloons at Castle Combe this Saturday 01:00 Race

Tom,

As you enter the paddock from near the start line (next to the shop) they were in the far left corner.

Great racing, well done to Mike winning class from back of the grid.
Bad luck to Simon, blocked (and damaged) by a Ford.

All the Imps loked good though, my 3 yr old Jack loved it!

Glad you had a great day out!

After the rolling road session and a few other changes, I was 2 seconds a lap quicker which I was well pleased with.

However Mike as usual went even faster and drove a very good race, he had a disappearing clutch peddle before the start and had to do clutch-less changes for the race and still won!

Looking forward to Oulton Park next we are racing bank holiday monday 27th

Hi all,
I have posted a copy of my power graph plot in the Album because I don't know how to do it on here. "Mr Spam" the Rolling Road operator used fourth gear to do the power run and only ran the car to 8,250 rpm and, as you can see from the graph, when he lifted off the power was still rising. The engine is limited at 9,300 rpm so I guess the power may have gone up to 118/120 possibly. Fourth gear is 6.3 ratio and fifth is a 4.8 ratio and the car was running on twelve inch wheels. The car has been on the rev limiter in fifth at Castle Combe and Snetterton. Can anyone work out what speed this is?

I think you will agree that the graph shows a very pleasing torque figure for a full race engine. Mike Hanna

According to the 'Gearboxman' calculator for a 185/60-12 tyre with 4.8 gear @ 9300 rpm = 120 mph.
Standard size 155/80-12 tyre with 4.8 gear @ 9300 takes it to 125 mph
Either way pretty damn quick for an Imp!

Simon,
Its an Excel Spreadsheet and you can either enter the tyre size in mm or the rolling radius in feet.
You can download it from this page:-
http://www.gearboxman.co.uk/inforatios.html
