IMP NATIONAL 2017 ROLVENDEN

Postby Colin Foster (heaps) » Thu Jan 26, 2017 1:31 pm

As well as updates in the magazine and as the clock ticks down to the next National, I will be posting additional information regarding the National on here and on a dedicated Facebook page which will allow questions to be answered and information given. The facebook page for anyone wishing to be added is IMP CLUB NATIONAL RALLY ROLVENDEN 2017 , all in uppercase. This events section will also be updated with information.
Thanks
Colin

I will try and get to at least one day.
I used to live in the village years ago and worked on Hope Farm in the school holidays etc,

There are loads of friends locally I haven't seen for a long time, so may try and combine the show and catching up.

Steam train Ride to Bodium castle is a must if your free for a couple of hours.
Runs from Tenterden, through Rolvenden Lane to a great looking Castle.

We have a couple of nice runs out planned, the main one on Friday to take in a lot of the countryside and finishing at Rye, hopefully taking in trains etc and a run out on Sunday afternoon/evening to Headcorn aircraft museum and fascinating little museum on the site of RAF Lashenden.

One of the things that we have noticed is that a lot of accommodation has already been taken, not only in Rolvenden but also Tenterden. I have checked and there is nothing else on locally that weekend so I guess it must be us so if you are thinking about not camping with us and need rooms then it might be a case of book sooner than later.

The Morgan museum is still there, I'm going to have to warn them about the National, you can only get about 12 people in the museum at a time but its well worth the visit, so much to see in such a small space

Lol, thats is...

I only ever went once, in the 13 years I lived there.
So many places around there of interest. If your doing Rye, I presume you will do Camber and Dungerness ?
I really must try and get down that weekend, not in the Stiletto !
I can't image driving that journey in that car

Surely the "Morgan museum" will be full of Imps

Colin : Some of the Sussex AC are up for stints on Rally Control. Can't guarantee how smooth that might go. I have a reputation for only heeding directions to the A27.

Andy, that is music to my ears. We are going to have fixed stints on rally control so everyone gets a break, probably max 2 hours at a time and then relief.. I will be providing power and drink making facilities to rally control and a convenient, convenience ;), any help you can provide over the weekend will be very much appreciated.

Graham, yes please try and make it even in a modern it will still be fun. I don't know the route of the run but knowing the parties organising it i'm positive it will be interesting.
The Sunday pm run should be good as well and I might even be able to sneak off site to go there myself

I will try and get down Friday and Saturday, Colin. I'm working that weekend...
There's a few old friends I want to catch up with a haven't seen for a long time...I keep in contact on Facebook, but haven't seen some for years.
I was chatting to one earlier, he arranged the sale to a mate of the Stiletto which I now own.

The yard by his workshop at Hamstreet.

As a side note...I moved to Tenterden area when I was 10. Before that more your way, Colin...
That old breakers yard still near Ruxley Manor roundabout ? Used to have a orange car on a post in the middle of it.

Yes the breakers is still there but the old Austin has long gone, I think it eventually fell off the pole. It has now been replaced with a smashed dune buggy thing. I drive past it every day on the way to work.

Hi Paul, that would be great, rally control is one of my bug bears as I have some great volunteers but I want everyone to enjoy the weekend so it will be on a shift system of about 2 hours at a time to give all some time off. All help is greatly appreciated.
Hi Peter, it will be great to see you if you can make it and welcome you to my part of the world.

Another thing to announce, although it has been mentioned in the magazine, is the fancy dress, this year it will be based on the works of H E Bates who wrote stories from the early thirties to 1971, including the Pop Larking series, The jacaranda Tree, a lot of WW2 stories including Fair stood a wind for France and the Purple Plain, so there is a lot of scope!!!

It was a Singer Roadster at ZB Motors.

I tried to buy it in 2003 but the answer was a firm no.

Update on the National as it is now less than a month to go. Our house is turning into a warehouse with the study covered in boxes, we have just collected the trophies. I have just spoken to the band and made sure they know where they're going and when to be with us. Advance bookings are looking good with 99 at last count/update a couple of weeks ago.The autotest/autosolo has hit a snag with public rights of way but the estate owner is very helpful so something will happen but maybe in a slightly different format and maybe on grass.
As the camping area is quite large there wont be anything like space restrictions just common sense. There will be access roads marked out and they will have to remain clear for access (i was at a music festival last year when a motorhome caught fire and it was scary so wide access is essential for emergency equipment) but the rest I hope will be a quiet area and a less quiet area. We have had minimal restrictions placed upon us by the estate owner but it will have to be quietish by 11.30 which I don't feel is unreasonable. Some of the field will be cordoned off as a noise buffer but that was agreed at the outset. All the essential equipment is in place and the catering will be in a separate marquee with a bar area in the main marquee as well. I hope you find the additional facilities to be good (a dozen tardises around the field as well as a 20 bay urinal trailer and a ladies block/ disabled access/ mens sit down near the marquees) plus good showers.
So i'm getting there. Keeping fingers crossed for some fine but not too hot weather.
If anyone has any questions/observations/complaints please let me know, things can only be resolved and acted upon if they are known about. i will have a great band of volunteers who will endeavour to make it a great weekend. (Gill drew the short straw as toilet fairy :o
see you in a very short time (so it seems)

we have an onsite caterer who is fully converse with vegan/vegetarian and gluten/lactose requirements (my daughter Louise is a vegan and is also gluten/lactose intolerant)
He will be doing breakfast/lunch/dinner options but if you have any specific requirements then he is happy to oblige, just need to let me know and i'll pass it on to him. He is also basically open from 0730 until late.

Sounds good but if I'd either prefer to see a meal plan for the weekend or have direct contact with the caterer.
