Imp Ecosse 2017 Booking information

Post by Jim 'Saltire' Fraser » Fri May 20, 2016 8:06 pm

Hi all, following on from our announcement at this years Imp Ecosse in Dumfries, Scott Skinner and I can now confirm the initial details for the 20th anniversary of Imp Ecosse in 2017.

Imp Ecosse was Scotts brain child back in 1997 and he was the original event organiser with myself as his trusty lieutenant. So we thought it would be fitting that the 20th anniversary event should return to its "Rootes" under the watchful eye of the original organisers, yes, we're heading back to Blair Atholl  :D

We were originally planning to block book the static caravans at Blair Atholl Caravan Park but following a great suggestion from Senga, Scotts wife, we looked into the possibility of using the Blair Atholl Arms Hotel instead, a first for Imp Ecosse and indeed, any other Imp event, as far as we know!. The response to this suggestion at this years Imp Ecosse was overwhelmingly in favour and following a visit to the hotel, we are pleased to announce that the event will go ahead.

Due to printing deadlines, nothing will appear in Impressions until the July magazine so we have decided to post on the forum first. Hopefully this will encourage early booking, which will look good from the hotels point of view. If you know of anyone who normally attends Imp Ecosse but isn't a regular forum user, can you please pass on the details to them.

Imp Ecosse 2017 will take place on the weekend commencing  Friday 7th April and we have block booked the ENTIRE HOTEL for our members until the morning of Monday 10th April.

The venue is the Atholl Arms Hotel in Blair Atholl, postcode PH16 5SG, Telephone  01796 481205

The hotel has a total of 31 bedrooms, all ensuite. 4 are family rooms, 2 of which sleep 4, the other 2 sleep 3. The rest of the rooms can be set up as double or twin so are perfect for couples or for two persons sharing. Please note that the Atholl Arms is a listed building and as such there is no lift to the bedrooms on the upper floors.

SPECIALLY DISCOUNTED PRICES are as follows;
Double/twin £60 per room per night B&B, £115 per room per night for dinner (3 course meal), bed & breakfast.
For family room prices, please contact the hotel (remember to mention it's for the Imp Club event) as the price is dependent on numbers and ages of those in the room.

Should you wish to arrive or depart a day or so earlier, the hotel will honour the discounted price for your entire stay.

Bookings are best by phone, quoting THE IMP CLUB, accompanied by a credit/debit card number to secure the booking. The bill is paid on departure and no deposit will be required, we think this is an excellent arrangement for our members. Cancellation two weeks before the weekend will result in no fee being charged, otherwise one nights room fee will be taken.

WE RECOMMEND EARLY BOOKING TO AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT, ESPECIALLY FOR THE FAMILY ROOMS.

For those who may prefer to camp, the Blair Castle Caravan Park is just a short walk across the road. They also have static caravans for hire that sleep 4 or 6 persons along with woodland lodges. Please check out their website blaircastlecaravanpark.co.uk for more information. We have also negotiated the option of breakfast and/or an evening meal in the hotel for non residents, more details of this will follow in Impressions.

So, put the date in your diaries, get those rooms booked and get ready to enjoy a totally unique Imp event in the spectacular Perthshire countryside, what a way to celebrate 20 years of Imp Ecosse!! I don't have access to the Imp facebook page so I'd be grateful if someone could paste the information on there for me too, I believe a post about the event has already appeared so it would be best if the full details were available.

regards, Jim Fraser (Edinburgh & Fife joint ACO)

Jim F might have a different opinion but it would be nice that Club members get the chance to book first although many do use Facebook. I'd expect the rooms to fill very quickly.

Thanks for posting it on the Imp Club Facebook page James. Yep, I'd prefer Club members to get first shout if possible. I'd normally opt for Impressions as the first point of contact but the information was "leaked" on Facebook so I thought I'd better get it on here with the official details
The rooms are filling up fast, the hotel is about 50% booked already! Don't worry if you miss out on the hotel as there are plenty other accommodation options in Blair Atholl, including the caravan park and other B&B's. The Tilt hotel at the other end of the village is currenty closed but may be open again by next year too.

Hi all, as Mike has already posted, I can confirm that all rooms in the hotel are now booked. Unbelievable that all 31 rooms were snapped up in less than a week from Scott and I officially booking out the hotel!

There is no need to worry about missing out on Imp Ecosse 2017 though, there are 18 residential caravans on the caravan site across the road and several B&B's in Blair Atholl as well. I'll post details of these up here and in Impressions shortly.

There might also be some individuals who have booked a twin room and would be happy to share, If you fall into this category, I'd suggest posting details on here and see if you can sort out a room mate :D

Regards, Jim

I have to say — and some may disagree — I think it's a shame this was posted on Facebook before it was in Impressions and this Forum. Facebook is NOT an officially Imp Club owned resource. There was no urgency or necessity for it to be published on Facebook at such an early stage. Not all members are online and rely on Impressions for information on events etc. The information was sent to me by Jim for Impressions and will be in the June issue. The situation now is that members who read about this in the magazine will sadly not be able to book a room because it has been posted on Facebook and all sold out, possibly some rooms may even have sold to NON-MEMBERS despite Imp Ecosse being an Imp Club event. We all know that non-members frequent Facebook (and this Forum). I strongly feel Imp Club members should have had first option for these rooms and the only fair way to ensure all members had an equal chance was for it to appear in Impressions first. I foresee a lot of disappointed members when June's mag comes out, especially those who do not go online.

It does show the popularity of having an hotel based event. If you look at the membership you will see we are not getting any younger and camping can be very hard on the bones.

The National is seeing this with the reduction in "on site" bookings and perhaps some forward and blue sky thinking about placing the National at an hotel complex other than rugby clubs etc. would be a good idea.
The National article in the June Impressions hints at the rising costs of venues and marques etc. but if we were to book a complete hotel all could be housed under the same roof (and the membership could try and raise it!)

Coming late to this ...
After enjoying the WWW we are up for another one ...I see all the rooms are booked ,although we would probably be using the motorhome
Question is ,as we do not need a hook up and are "self sufficient " do you think it would be ok to park up outside the Hotel ?
Is it a big car park ? (and its less to stagger ...)
otherwise we will camp up across the road

Is there any problems with the hotel needing notice as to arrival or departure?
Even if you can't stay all nights of the event.
