Yorkshire End of Season Run

Post by Colin Valentine » Sat Sep 20, 2014 7:21 pm

Yorkshire End of Season Run Saturday 25 October
The Yorkshire End of Season Run will be organised by Barnsley AC members Dave Cull & Dale Bishop.
The Start will be at the Elsecar Steam Railway Heritage Centre which is at Hoyland, just east of J36 on the M1.
The Elsecar Centre is “brown” signed from the Motorway.
Chief organiser Dave Cull has agreed to “mix and mash” some of the best roads from his previous runs.
So the route will be going into the National Park around the Peak District area. He will add in a few more roads as well.
Get ready for a cacking day out to finish the Season off in style. (No pressure then Dave !!!)
Members from Barnsley & York are planning to join the Run.
And the infamous Rob Immers will be coming from Holland to try for the Furthest Travelled Award.
Although in line with MSA Regulations there will no element of Competiton involved.
Details of the Finish venue will be added nearer the Event when the Route has been surveyed.
Many of the roads in the area are now in splendid condition thanks to Le Tour, but we won’t be using those. Well we might......
Distance will be around 80 miles.
Anyone wishing to join us please let me know as we have to plan parking places and catering arrangements.
My email and phone number are in Impressions under Comp Secy or York AC.

Please let someone know asap if you intend to join Barnsley / York AC's on their Endo of Season Run as we ned to firm up Bookings and check on Parking at various Venue en route.
Dave Cull has taken the lead and has been busy sorting a route.
Much of it is in an Area used by "Le Tour", so in recognition of this the Run is now titled "Le Tour Des IMPs"
Many of the road have been resurfaced, so it should be Slicks or Inters, rather than M&S. ( I've been atching too much F1 recently !!
Some more info on the route is given below:

•Start at Elsecar Heritage is booked, with the "Brambles" tea room agreeing to open at 9.00 to allow us time to congregate with a cuppa/ buttie in readiness for a 10.00 start.
•Coffee break is arranged at High Bradfield on the Tour de France route for, approx 11.15.
As a good portion of the run at the beginning is on the Tour route - I've created a Tour Plate with that theme in mind
Hence the tour name is "Le Tour des Imps" I'll try to attach a copy but the old PC hasn't been too responsive today!
•Lunch is booked at a pub just outside Hathersage. Website www.theploughinn.co.uk if you want a look at the place.
•Afternoon "leg stretch" is at the old favourite - Monsall Head followed by a later call in at the disused railway station at Miller's Dale with a challenge to do the scary walk over the viaduct!! Both have toilets.
•Return from Miller's Dale via Edale
•Unfortunately, pubs near the end of the return run are very busy and booked up, so "The Strines" will once again be the finish venue. I've spoken to the landlord who's happy to reserve us a room if we have 20+ diners - otherwise we'll just sit where we like. I'm not sure that many folk would want to eat again if they had a meal at lunchtime. I didn't want to, but found their sandwiches just the job!
•Total driving distance = 75 miles

Don't forget, please let us know, if you are planning to come along.

Hope everyone else enjoyed the day.
I didn't get to count the cars but it must have been into double figures.
With around 8 Imps, and a couple of moderns.
Then a brief visit from Chris V and family trying out his "new" 924.
It is a Pre 81 Model and so intended for Classic Rallies.
The hope is that it will be able to challenge the Mk2 Escorts, and give a lot of fun at a fraction of the price of an Escort.
A full report on Le Tour Des IMPs will be IMPressions later, along with some photos.
Thanks mainly to Dave Cull for his really hard work in putting the Event together.
