I've contacted the Heritage Centre to ask how much is admission to the Museum if you turn up in an Imp  It's £12 for admission if you aren't a HRCR member (£6 if you are)

Didn't know if there was a pub around there maybe we could have a little convoy for a bite to eat before setting off home - if anyone is interested I could try and get this together? :?:

If you wouldnt mind James. I have been to The Malt Shovel before with a load of old Fiat Pandas They opened up outside the hours and served us food. They have agreed they'd do the same again this time, should we wish. But I'd be interested to find out what's out there........ :D Thanks

The Wobbly Wheel is the nearest Pub/Premier Inn. Not the best but adequate and nearest on the Banbury Road.

If you want to stay on site as part of a Club Stand, then there is on site catering available.
Also an opportunity to find out more about the various HRCR Championships, in case you are fancying your chances.

Just to explain - the HRCR Open day at Gaydon is the annual launch of the club's motor sport calender and embraces the whole range of rallies from stage and road rallying to tours. It consists of stands manned by the various organising clubs of the events that form part of the HRCR championships trying to sign competitors up for their respective events (eg: organisers of all the BHRC rallies tend to be represented together with those running events that form part of the HRCR Clubmans Rally Championship etc). The only trade stands, other than the event organisers, tend to be the championship sponsors, Mintex will be there, Dunlop have in the past, REIS (insurance) etc. In amongst the area that HRCR use there are usually 4 or 5 rally cars. This year to mark the 50th there will be three Imps in the inside display - an ex works car car (which I understand to be JDU46E), Mike and Matthew Vokes's very successful road rally car and my Singer Chamois. Outside there will be an open air display of rally cars of all types - last year Minis, Saabs, Escorts etc. In addition there is likely to be more Imps in the car parking area which no doubt could be orchestrated so that they are together in a bunch or semi organised display (subject to the involvement of the HRCR and the Heritage Motor Centre). I have heard that some Dutch Imp rally people plan to bring their cars together with several other members of this forum who rally their cars.

I've been in contact with Nigel Webster and he is interested in coming along with his Stage Rally Imp.
Unfortunately, the other Stage Rally regular Geoff Taylor can't make it.
I have a part prepared IMP Rally Car. Actually, it is a joint effort with Chris.
But it has been parked in my garage/carport/yard for the past 5 years.......
The body is strengthened, welded and now sprayed Chrysler Blue.
But it would take a phenomenal effort to sort that by early January.
So I don't think that it will be there, but I might bring the Nymph.

So if Charlotte, or someone else from Birmingham or Coventry AC's would like to take the lead then it could easily happen.
You will need to contact HRCR & Gaydon to sort out arrangements for the display area etc.
Then I think we have the basis for a "bit of a do".
I'll keep watching the posts and hope that someone is up for it.

Charlotte

if you do organise something then

The Gaydon Inn
Banbury Rd
Warwick CV35 0HA
01926 640388
www.thegaydoninn.co.uk‎

is quite car friendly, they used to be the venue for the Coventry & Warwickshire motor club, wheels display before it moved to the current venue at the Blue Lias

Keep me posted, Hopefully the Imp will be respectable enough by then to be seen out in it, As a HRCR member I'll be making the trip out either way

Sorry for the delay folks - the info took a while longer to arrive than was expected and I had a rare day off to do my thing today! :o

Anyway the good news is that in addition to a visit to the Heritage Motor Centre as part of Imp 50 in May 2013, we can have a display of Imps outside the main entrance to the museum during the HRCR event.

The museum is open between 09:30 - 17:00 and the Museum Entry fee for Drivers and passengers arriving in Hillman Imps and derivatives will be just £6 per person, otherwise normal Museum prices will apply. There's no need to book in advance just turn up as you wish.

All Rally prepared Imps should park in the car park designated for Rally Cars which will be by the entrance to the conference facilities at the rear of the building
Entrance to the HRCR Open day is included in the museum entrance fee.

It is possible for us to have a gazebo outside by our cars if we wish as a meeting point/regalia etc if we wish but that might not be too practical in January!

Thats right but also worth saying the HRCR bit is FREE entry as is car parking. You only pay if you want to visit the museum. I'm there every year to launch the Taith Cymru tour that I organise so i see all you Impers there.

Rosemary Smith To Be Guest Of Honour At HRCR Open Day

I quote from the HRCR press release:-

Returning to her Rootes - ‘60s rally star Rosemary Smith
will be guest of honour at Historic Rally Car Register's Open Day

This year's Historic Rally Car Register open day at the Heritage Motor Centre near Gaydon in Warwickshire will be graced by the presence of a rallying icon, when former Rootes Group works rally driver Rosemary Smith jets in to be the guest of honour. Her attendance is the icing on the cake for the HRCR and provides the ultimate complement for the show's theme, which celebrates 50 years of the Hillman Imp.

Rosemary had a chequered competition career in Imps, culminating in winning the 1965 Tulip Rally in Holland. She is flying over from Dublin specially to attend the HRCR's annual pre-season showcase event, after being contacted by three-times MSA British Historic Rally Champion, David Stokes. "We are so glad Rosemary is able to be our guest of honour. She was an integral part of the Rootes Group rally team for most of her career and many of her international class wins came in an Imp," says David. "She has a very busy schedule, but is making time specially to be part of our "Imp 50" celebrations."

As part of Rosemary's visit, she will be reunited with Hillman Imp reg. no. JDU 46E, which was prepared for her to drive on the 1967 RAC Rally - unfortunately cancelled due to the Foot and Mouth epidemic of the time - and which forms the centrepiece of the HRCR's competition cars exhibit at the open day.

The HRCR open day starts at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday 12th January at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire. The HMC is situated near Junction 12 of the M40.
