WICKED WELSH WEEKEND 2018
December's Impressions magazine included an article regarding a new venue for WWW2018. The text of the article is reproduced below, together with the photographs, plus 2 photos of the bar/clubhouse at the site.
WICKED WELSH WEEKEND 2018
Friday 21 September – Sunday 23 September
Following discussions with Neil & Tina Gurner it has been agreed that, for the next few years, the ‘Friday team’ will be organising the whole Wicked Welsh Weekend (as we did this year).
WWW has been held at the Rising Sun, Pandy, for 17 years, and most of the suitable run routes and destinations have been used (some several times!). The possibility of moving the event to another venue (giving a different choice of routes and destinations) has been discussed for several years and, this year, we asked most of the attendees (apologies to anyone we missed out) whether they would still attend the weekend if we moved it to another venue. The response was an overwhelming 'yes', so after we returned home, we began researching suitable alternatives. We identified 3 campsites and visited them to check the facilities.
The overwhelming favourite was Lakeside Caravan Park beside Llangorse Lake, 6 miles from Brecon, which ticked all the boxes in terms of what we felt was needed for the weekend. The site has the following facilities and amenities:
• 26 electric hook ups in large camping field with room for the club gazebo, plus additional large camping field if required
• 8 hardstandings (included in the above 26)
• Site fees similar to Pandy
• 3 toilet blocks
• Pub affiliated to the site which serves food every evening
• Function room capable of accommodating us on the Saturday evening
• Café which serves breakfasts, hot meals, snacks and cakes
• 10 static caravans for hire - 4 or 6 berth – max 18 months old
• On-site shop selling basic camping equipment, food provisions, beer, wine, ice cream etc.
• Space for show and shine
• Bed & breakfast accommodation in nearby Llangorse village within walking distance, with further accommodation in nearby Bwlch and Brecon
• Two additional pubs serving food in the village, one with a large function room.
• Beautiful surrounding scenery and good Imp driving roads
• Approximately 30 minutes from the old site at Pandy
• Opportunity to explore some new routes and destinations within Wales
Roy and Dawn Blunt stayed at the site to try it out and the rest of the Team joined them on Sunday for a debrief. The site wardens, pub and café owners were all extremely friendly and happy to discuss our requirements with the aim of working with us to make the weekend a success.
Bookings can be made by telephone from mid-December – please contact the site directly. If you decide to book please can you let us know as we would like to be able to gauge how many people plan to attend. We fully understand that many people don’t like to announce they’ll be away from home on open forums, but it would be good if you could send us a PM. There is a deposit of £25 paid upon booking, which is deducted from the total cost of your stay. We understand why the owners do this as they have had clubs attending in the past who have booked a whole field, only to find that just a few people turn up. As they are prepared to book the whole field for us, this is a reasonable request. If you experience any problems with booking please let us know and we will deal with the issues arising.
Contact Details:
Lakeside Caravan Park - email – holidays@llangorselake.co.uk or telephone – 01874 658226
Please mention that you are booking as part of the Imp Club Wicked Welsh Weekend. There are also discounted rates for the over 60’s so, if do you fall into this category, don’t forget to mention it at the time of booking.
The site is introducing a new online booking system which will take deposits etc. This should be live by 1 January 2018 and will be via the website – http://www.llangorselake.co.uk. Telephone booking will still be available.

Peter & Regina Hurst 07872351179 - (Peter Hurst on the Forum)
Just to add that the static caravans are available for hire on a daily basis during September and are not subject to weekly hire.

Hi Gill
That's good news.
When the cafe shuts the pub starts doing food so that they do not overlap/compete. The pub also does tea/coffees. Good news on the bookings front.

Re: WICKED WELSH WEEKEND 2018 - Llangorse bookings
We had a phone call from Karen at Llangorse reception this morning. The booking system via the website (http://www.llangorselake.co.uk) is now up and running (about a month later than planned) but there may be a problem with bookings for WWW touring pitches made via the website since it went live (…..how surprising – or am I just being my usual cynical self as far as new software packages are concerned….). The problem is that, if people don’t mention that it is a booking for ‘The Imp Club weekend’ or ‘Wicked Welsh Weekend’, they will have been put on one of the other camping fields as our field (‘Ernie’s Field’) is reserved entirely for us. The trouble is that there is no obvious place to enter this information – the ‘Additional Information’ fields on the booking form are labelled ‘Car Registration Number’ and ‘Estimated Arrival Time’. However there is plenty of room to enter more info in these areas and we’d suggest putting ‘for Imp Club weekend’ after the time in the ‘Estimated Arrival Time’ box (or, of course, placing your booking by phone to 01874 658226 and specifying that it is for the Imp Club weekend). If you have already booked a touring pitch via the website it would be worth telephoning 01874 658226 or e-mailing (reception@llangorselake.co.uk) to let them know that you are part of our group.
We’ve asked Phil to put this info on Facebook and will also ask Grahame to put it in the next Impressions.
By the way all 10 Llangorse static caravans have now been booked for WWW and bookings for touring pitches are going well.
Roy & Dawn

I thought that we couldn’t make Welsh this year as I thought it clashed with our holiday. Turns out it doesn’t clash so we should be there, possibly still jet lagged.

Great news - looking forward to it Mikey .. you have a few weeks to sort the Nymph (then again, you brought it last year and it didn't go very far, so its mere presence will be enough !)
I've sent an update to Grahame for printing in September Impressions, and will coincide with publication of the article here and on Facebook.

Wont' be able to make WWW this year (again ). It's clashing with a football match that one of my boys is going to as a surprise birthday gift, at Anfield.
If anyone is hanging about around Mid Wales (Machynlleth area) for a week, there a car run called Mach Run 18 being held the following weekend which follows part of the fast jet route called the 'Mach Loop' - about a 50mile run starting and ending in Machynlleth. I've shared the facebook page on the Imp Club FB site or search for Mach Run 18 on FB. Would be good to see some Imps/Clans/G15s etc if you're still around.

Re: WICKED WELSH WEEKEND 2018
UPDATE – Following the article in Impressions..
The Imp Club’s 19th Wicked Welsh Weekend will be held between 21-23 September2018. This is the first event at our new location at Lakeside Caravan Park, Llangorse Lake.
We are holding WWW2018 within Ernie’s Field, where there are 26 electric hookups and a number of hard standings. Tents not requiring electricity can camp within the field. There is also a larger field without electricity for overflow camping. All the static caravans are now booked. The showers require 20p coins. There are local B&B options.
We have arranged 3 scenic runs, to Devil’s Bridge Falls (encompassing the full beauty of the Elan Valley), Brecon and Crickhowell towns.
The Boatyard Bar on the common will be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Evening meals will be provided by the Lake Café as the Bar now has a problem with serving food. On Saturday evening the WWW quiz and the infamous WWW Naffle will be held in the Bar.
Sunday will see the Show & Shine in the morning, with the awards ceremony at the main marquee. There will be a short run in the early afternoon taking in an early refreshment and snack stop at Crickhowell. For the evening we have arranged a meal at 19:30 at the Red Lion in Llangorse village.
Llangorse Lake and its surrounding area is a dark sky area, as a result, there may be some great opportunities for star gazing. Bring torches! There are walks around the lake.

There are walks around the lake.

after looking at the Nymph yesterday it will not be attending the WWW this year .
The fiberglass has become to fragile in a couple of places to cope with the welsh roads again .
I plan to bring something else small blue and convertible in its place that should be as much fun and hope fully wont break down as the nymph has done the last couple of year.

Re: WICKED WELSH WEEKEND 2018
IMPORTANT NOTICE RE CAMPSITE FOR WWW
Several people have posted on Facebook that they won't be booking beforehand for WWW. We've spoken to the campsite and they've insisted that everyone has to book. Reception closes at 5pm and details of pitch numbers for each booking will be on the door if you arrive later. No arrivals after 9pm.
There are 4 pitches on the main field left. There may be pitches in the other field.
Please don't shoot the messenger; this is a new location and we have to follow their rules. We've tried to get them to be more flexible with no luck I'm afraid.

Re: WICKED WELSH WEEKEND 2018
Last lap for the preparations
Been looking at the possible routes from Scotland ,three came up
one was basically all the way down the m6/m5 before diving off cross country ...not a big fan of this one, m6/5 junction is always problematical
second and third ,were shorter miles wise but longer time wise, one through Shrewsbury and the other through Welshpool
We will be towing the clan behind our 6.6m Motorhome so trying to avoid too wiggly and narrow roads
Any recommendations re route ? we will be doing it in a oner leaving at stupid o'clock and trying to avoid the rush and get down about 5 ish

Re: WICKED WELSH WEEKEND 2018
I live by the M6 and avoid using it if at all possible !
I have taken my Imp on a trailer behind my MotorHome down the A49 last year to Hereford and then A465 to Abergavenny. However this year the camping is the other side of Abergavenny so forget the A465.
I'm sure Mr Hawes will tell you the preferred route but head down the M6 to M56 heading west one junction and then take the A49 south of Warrington and follow this to Leominster, then A44, A4112, A438 will take you Three Cocks which is close to the Camp Site

Have you booked George? Campsite won't reveal names of bookings because of Data Protection. Be great to see you.
Not sure which route is best, but I know that Bob Hawes travelling from Warrington always went to Pandy via Three Cocks and Talgarth to avoid Hereford, and Llangorse is just 5 miles from Talgarth.
Just noticed John Keane has posted same info about the route.

So who's coming? The site won't release names of the bookings due to data protection. It would be helpful to know how many people are coming. Phil

Re: WICKED WELSH WEEKEND 2018
M6, M56, A55, A41 and then A49 via Shrewsbury bypass down A49 then right at Leominster. Then A44, A4112, A438 to Three Cocks. The A49 is the main truck road and full of HGVs. My preferred route when towing as no nasty narrow bits or sharp bends. Also, you won't be the one at the head of the traffic queue!ylee coyote wrote:Last lap for the preparations

If I were in the imp on it's own, then via Welshpool, but the A49 is easier when towing. Top end of the A49 from Warrington to Whitchurch is a PITA, so worth going further along the M56 and diverting via A55 and A41. Further, but quicker when towing IMHO. A lot less "stop, start" than the top end of the A49 for sure.
HTH.
Bob.

Re: WICKED WELSH WEEKEND 2018
The shrewsbury option then , our route planner had avoided the a49 first section and was routing us near Wrexham , I call this the Demon Tweeks route , but for some reason it is taking us down a b road off the a49 for little gain I can see , it connects back on to the a 4112
I will probably take your advice unless the traffic forces another route
6 hours 30 ?
I am thinking more like 10 ...
